So I got a ludicrous idea for a plotline. I got post-plotline depression (even though it's gone already) after watching some Japanese TV show called Sky Girls. So without further ado my idea is to start a plotline somewhat based on this show. Specifics are somewhat fuzzy but this will basically involve some kind of diisease-fighting system (like in the show) that was somehow reprogrammed to recognize a planet as a patient, and tries to eliminate sentient life on this planet because it was programmed so poorly that it can't tell it isn't cancer.
Nomally this could be dealt with somewhat easily, but given the war few resources are available, so a number of ????s (probably not mecha suits) are adopted by the military. They were designed by some guy (creator of the disease-fighting program perhaps) to destroy this specific threat. The catch is that they can't have just anyone use these things, for some reason they can only be controlled by a specific type of person (teenage girls, for similarity to the source, wangst, an ongoing gag about the creator being a pervert, and that nasssty character development that everyone loves >_>) and the resources to modify these ????s isn't available so the required people will have to be selected from the planet [at random].
If at least two people express interest in this plotline I'll make a thread in the assessment room to iron out more details. If not I'll dissolve into the aether. |

This is why CMAC hates all things anime.

Wasn't there a planet where the AI went crazy and killed all the people there? I don't remember what the planet was called. But this sounds exactly like it, just if it created starships and tried to conquer the galaxy. |

That would be perfect, think about it. We could have a galaxy wide invasion by mindless machines... kind of like the confederacy, but this time they are ruled by other computers! No mistakes. They even make a time machine and go back and kill Luke Skywalker BEFORE he destroys the Death Star so they can steal it. Genius. Really. _________________ Captain of the Elusive, MC-90 Star Cruiser

'Kay, the Yuza-fuzzy-whatsits were a race from another galaxy, who hated machines of any sort with a passion. Their spaceships were literally alive. They just kind of came in and started a war. And I've heard of perhaps a dozen scifi stories where AI decided to kill/subdue humanity, this is set apart by:
the fact that someone will later be revealed to have caused this on purpose insted of the AI doing it by itself (to explain how it's possible in the first place)
the fact that this is less a threat as it is a source of NPCs for bored RPers to asplode
its unimportance compared to the TE war
its limitation to just a pocket of the practical universe
and the general lulziness of it.
Next time be more serious while discussing humorous nonsense. It may not sound like it but this is close to begging for me. |

Hold on, asking for a plot based on making more "asplosions" doesn't usually make for a good story. Action is supposed to move a story along, the story should not revolve around creating action. The opening scene of the first Star Wars movie, for instance, showed the Star Destroyer dominating the little Coreillian frigate. This created the idea of an Empire and a Rebellion early and how the struggle was obviously proceeding until the movie started. See how simplistic that told the story? You didn't need lots of asplosions, just two ships. _________________ Captain of the Elusive, MC-90 Star Cruiser

Well, there were 13 asplosions in that opening scene. I counted. >_>
That said, Michael Bay isn't a member of CMAC... or this board, I hope. Explosions and plot twists aren't the same as plot. And giant mecha things just lead to problems...
Of course, I fully encourage people to find ways to get involved in plots and fun things. That's the point of the game: have fun. Just as long as it doesn't break the game, involve crossovers, or things that just don't work or are absurdly ridiculous... like a mecha that can only be controlled by teenage girls because of a pervy inventor. _________________ Emperor Ams Jendob, Ruler of the Imperial Remnant

Oh teh noes! Sorry!
And I can hardly believe I have to explain this, but I was joking about the asplosions. I was just trying to say that it would be a more casual plot.
Also, I'm fully aware that mechas (and powered exoskeletons like in the show) are... totally stupid. I was thinking more like some variety of highly manuverable speeder-thing, and perhaps a cramped cockpit prevented older people from using it, and/or a neural linkup thing that was designed with a certain mind setup in mind, or whatever.
If people really don't like the idea of having little girls in the plot, I suppose a team of rookies could be substituted, that were considered counterproductive to put on the front lines. This is why I said I wanted to "iron out the details".
Ultimately this is supposed to stay within the bounds of sanity and SW canon (not as a crossover), and give us some interesting characters to play with. If nobody likes this idea, I guess it just won't happen. If people join in and there are still complaints, there will be a thread for the plot. |

Wow me too.
And I want to tell everyone that jetpacks are not silly, not only are they supported canon but we have them IRL. We have flying cars IRL too, I think you need a liscense to drive either.
So I guess since I mentioned my plot idea and it's vague inspiration in the same post nobody's interested... |

Actually, they mention how jetpacks still aren't great in the NEGWT. Something along the lines of "one direct hit and your grounded forever" or mentioning Boba Fett.
And you need a pilot's license for those flying cars. And parking them is a pain. _________________ Emperor Ams Jendob, Ruler of the Imperial Remnant

How did I know that was coming?
Although, I'm still not sure what advantages it would have over current, standard-issue gear. >_>

Well, there is the old Alliance Blast-n-Smash rifle with an AXM-50 blaster rifle and a Locris Syndicates microgrenade launcher. And the Dark Trooper assault cannon had an under-mount rocket launcher...
But I could see fitting yours to an E-22. O_o _________________ Emperor Ams Jendob, Ruler of the Imperial Remnant

I think Muunilinst is over... but not sure. Granted, the Remnant thread of the plot needs to do some quick catching up... unless Gorog wants to skip ahead.
In any case, it's taught us some valuable lessons on how well the battlesystem can work, some in-character insights into the two Empires, and the most important lesson of all: don't screw with Riene.
She crazy.<_<
