Yeah, we're still lurking. So, if you wanna talk about it (apparently, all of the "official" SW message boards broke)... who saw the Episode VII trailer?
Not as awesome as the SWVII trailer... in my mind... but okay.

I wonder if any Yuuzhan Vong had appeared in the trailer, would we have been reading Ams' obituary in the papers the next day.
Although I understand that everything from The Truce at Bakura onwards is being ignored? |

Yes and no. The entire EU has been removed from "canon," pushed to an alternate "Legends" continuity. The new films—and TCW and Rebels-- and everything released after a certain date (including mobile games) occupy "official Canon." So no KotOR, no TIE Fighter, no X-Wing, none of the books we read...
No VSDs, no Carracks, no Dauntless heavy cruisers, no MC90s, no Cray kissing Claire Danes and liking it...

I've just ordered the X-Wing and Thrawn series because I've never read them. 
I'm not overly bothered though, it's something I've wanted to do for a while. |

Not likely. I wouldn't have cared, unless it got bungled horribly.

You know, I have never read all of the X-Wing books. I read the first one when I was... nine, I think.
EDIT: ...Huh. Apparently, last time I logged in from here, I was doing a Shy post. Didn't even notice the account was different.

Wookieepedia seems to treat them that way. And an article a while back—basically stating the new policy—said everything new counts unless said otherwise (presumably, any dance contest games will not be canon... I hope ).

I don't remember the link. But all new content after a certain date counts unless explicitly contradicted (like a dancing game).
