Damn. I have had RROD twice now and a messed up disc tray after getting it back from the first RROD. Microsoft is something else, lemme tell ya.

Depending on when your Xbox was purchased/made, you might still be in warranty for that specific problem.

I have two xboxs, one has already been in for it once, and another was just recently sent off for a second time last week. Got them both in 08 (Got two for backups, one doesn't get used until the other one needs fixin', and vise-versa.)

I believe the RRoD has a three-four year extended warrenty. The only way to find out is to grab the serial number on the back of your console and register it on Xbox.com. It will say you're out of warrenty, but just request a repair and when the option for the repair you need shows up, select the one that is described as Three Flashing Red Rings on Console/Face. The price underneath it should change to free or 0.00.

Let us know if that works.

Yeah, RRoD has its own warranty. If it didn't, I would have been screwed when my first one died on me (Two weeks before Halo 3 came out, no less).

You would think they would fix this problem already.

It's ridiculous that such a popular gaming system has such a huge flaw. Every time I power up my 360, I'm scared that those red rings are going to flash at me. You shouldn't have to worry about that with the money you pay for it.

Get your act together, Microsoft!

I depends on when you bought it. If you got it before late 2006-early 2007, then your console is likely going to encounter the RRoD sometime. After that, though, you might have a 'newer' model in which they fixed the problem (As I recall, it was something about the type of soldering they used; it develops hairline fractures when it cools down after a long session). I had an older one, but when mine died it was still covered by the RRoD warranty and I got it replaced for free with a newer model.

It's times like these I feel even better about my decision to go with the Wii as my system of choice...

I have the Wii as well, but it doesn't support some of the games I want. Red Dead Redemption, for one!
