Before opening, there are a couple things we need to do yet, as Han said. One is I need to post a timeline of events and what things are different. This will probably be on the Wiki.

And we need to run battlesystem tests. I'll get a thread up for that ASAP for signups, then Tensig and I will make up some battle scenarios.

I thought it was just me. Occasionally, when I open this page (And VIII, for that matter) I get a message from Norton that something has tried and failed to attack my computer. It was something called Bloodhound.Exploit at first, but now it's Trojan something. So far, it hasn't done anything except lag my browser like heck for a few minutes.

I've managed to reroute it before anything can download, but twice out of the four times I've opened the page my computer has gone berserk. I've got an infinite number of 'Navigate away from page?' pop-ups that I can't cancel or close, the tab won't close, other weird sites are popping up, and Unity becomes some sort of click here thing. The second time it happened I had to Ctrl-Alt-Delete it and restart my computer. It's pretty bad. So far, no trojan horses, though.

I know a long time ago when VII was running there was an attack on the forums which included a passive link to some other site, due to flaws in phpBB. Can you tell me what pages this is happening on? Does it happen on the index, when you view forums, when you view topics, etc?

Sounds to me like your computer is the problem as opposed to the site itself. Also, I've never had anything like that happen anywhere on swrpgs.net.

Does it happen on any other sites?

There's a *lot* of changes I made, but most of it is still dirty, inefficient phpBB at its base. The site itself (not the forums), though, is entirely homebrew.

I got the message to show up on IE, but stupidly I ended the task before I could copy and paste the source code. Now I can't get it to come up again. Since I can't see it on the source of the index page, I'm thinking it might only come up some times - which would be hard to accomplish, in my mind, with the types of simple attacks most malefactors do, but still possible, I guess. But, it's hard for me to see if there's any links, since they're usually disguised.

From using IE, I think the malware is using ActiveX. So, if you want to be totally safe, don't activate any ActiveX controls, or just go and disable them altogether.

On another note, have any of these other weird sites that open up been something about some young guy getting thousands in cash from Google? I've seen that in my windows list sometimes but I never suspected VIII/Unity was launching it.

No, the site I was sent to was a high quality graphic page that had something to do with 'clicking it.' I'll look it up in my history in a second.

And yes, only on the index, occasionally. I haven't had it happen on any other forum or site, just here, and both times when I restarted Firefox and went here the site was fine.

Note: Went over my history, and both the instance of loading Unity and the site I was redirected to were not recorded.

Okay, it's definitely something injected that's using JavaScript. So, another way to be safe for now is to turn JavaScript off.

Found it. It should be safe now.

... but I don't know how it did anything. It didn't change the database like the last attack (which can be fairly simple to do if the software isn't programmed properly)... it edited a static (unchanging) file. I need to investigate this. Apparently it's a common nasty that's going around right now.

Have a look in the admin control panel and see if the forums are set to automatically prune topics and posts that are of a certain age.
