Personal Transport Hive Queen

Base Model: Maka-Eekai L4000 transport

Captain/Pilot/Owner: Jade Anulay
Known Crew:
*Gorrop - First Mate/Chief Engineer
*Ussa Kkuka - Assistant Engineer
*Wingnut - Misc.
*Scraphead - Misc.
*E-P0C - Protocol/Quartermaster/Bookkeeping

The Hive Queen could be considered one of the last of her kind, if she truly still resembled her former sister ships. As it is, the ship has been heavily modified to the point of the inner decks having practically been re-built from the hull inward, both in order to bring it up to more modern technological standards and to make room for a number of special additions while still making the most effective use of the ships cargo space. Some of these bring the ship to a status that barely boarders on legal, but as of yet Captain Anulay has managed to avoid getting in any notable trouble with the law because of it...

Notable Armaments:
Expand

Crew Information:
*Gorrop - A masculine Verpine, and one of Jade's oldest friends outside of those she knew before abandoning the Jedi Order. Gorrop is largely responsible for the Hive Queen's current state, though with no small amount of help from his 'sidekick' Ussa, especially in regards to the more recent upgrades and modificaitons.

*Ussa Kkuka - A female Jawa, who stowed away on the ship during what was initially a routine stop on Tatooine. Gorrop proceeded to 'adopt' Ussa as a pet, though Ussa sees herself as Gorrop's 'sidekick'. In either case, she currently serves as Gorrop's assistant in keeping the Hive Queen operational. Surprisingly, Ussa has proven herself to be more an asset than one might expect of a Jawa, though this is most likely due to Gorrop keeping a close eye on Ussa's work. Keeping in line with her heritage, she's also collected a small assortment of random items from various planets the ship has visited, which she then tries to sell on other planets as well. Jade allows this in exchange for getting a deep discount on any items Ussa finds that she actually considers useful and getting a tiny cut of all profits that Ussa makes.

*Wingnut and Scraphead - A pair of Geonosians jointly referred to as 'The Twins', despite being related only by species. Wingnut is a member of the flying branch of his race, while Scraphead is of the surface-bound variety. Have never having provide their real names nor 'corrected' anyone when addressed by the nicknames that Ussa gave them, and so the crew continues to call them as such. Largely like to keep to themselves, taking care of whatever tasks are needed of them, which mostly considers of keeping an eye on cargo, loading and unloading the ship, keeping the Hive Queen occupied when the rest of the crew needs to go out, and manning the main guns during combat.

*E-P0C - A droid built by Ussa for purposes of translation, sparring against Jade, and ship bookkeeping.

The airlock to the Hive Queen opened, and Jade stumbled through, her steps hindered by her inebriated state. Had she been so inclined, she could have tapped into the Force to keep herself upright, but Jade wasn’t in the mood. After succeeding in dulling her senses, she now wanted nothing more than to crash in her cabin and sleep until the inevitable hangover that would follow.

She passed by the crew commons room on her way through the ship, and her short glance into it on her way by told her that one of the Geonosians was playing some holo-game against Ussa. She thought that the other crew members may have been in the room, but she couldn’t tell for sure.

Gorrop’s presence in the room was confirmed soon after Jade passed by, as the Verpine exited behind the woman and followed after her.

“<Captain, we received a message while you were out.>” the insectoid said as he followed after her.

“Basic, please.” Jade asked. While he spoke in his native tongue, Jade and Gorrop had worked together long enough that she could understand it, even if she couldn’t speak it. Normally, she was happy to translate whatever he said in her head, but right now, she wasn’t in the mood. Much like she was feeling about most other things in the universe.

“Of course. We received a message while you were out, one of your usual contacts would like us to pick up a package for him.” Gorrop said.
“Assessment?” Jade asked. In her present state, she had little interest in straining her brain thinking about whatever details Gorrop may have had for her and whether such a mission might be worth it. Gorrop was one of her oldest friends, and by now, she felt safe trusting his judgment on the situation in her inability to do so herself.

“I believe it’s a simple enough task for a generous fee. It requires we pick up a package on Bespin, which we could do after we drop off our current passengers.”
“Fine.” Jade said as she reached her cabin. “We’ll take it.”

Opening the door, she turned around to face Gorrop.

“Nows if you do nots mind, I’mma gunna sleep tills this ssss-tupid assignment is over…and we’re ready to take our passengers home.”

Closing the door, she went to her bed and let unconsciousness take her.

There was a distinct feeling that rushed through Jade as the Hive Queen exited hyperspace on the outer edge of the Bespin system.

“<What is it?>” Gorrop asked from the co-pilots seat.

Jade didn’t answer at first as she wished that it wasn’t true. The fact that both of them would be in the same system at the same time, way out here, had to be some kind of freak coincidence.

“<Jade?>” Gorrop asked again.
“He’s here.” Jade said with a bit of a scowl.
“<Who?>” Gorrop asked, before his mind put the pieces together. Though Jade had never filled him in on the details specifically, he was very well aware of her history with the Jedi and her relationship, or lack thereof, with her Father.

“<Oh. Your father.>” Gorrop said. “<Would you like to abandon the mission and turn around?>”
“No.” Jade said, waving the Verpine off. “Thank you, but no.”

As freak a coincidence as this was, there was still hope that she’d be able to evade him. Cloud City wasn’t a small location, and she doubted that the man would actively seek her out.

“We’ll land, get our package, and get out of there as quickly as possible. I'm a big girl. I'm sure I handle being on the same planet as him.” She said, and continued the ships flight path for Cloud City.

It was chaos. Pure, unadulterated chaos. It was easy for Jade to find her way, as she knew exactly where she was headed, even if she had to get around Imperial forces to get there. But as she watched the panic of people around her, she began to realize that many of them didn’t have as much assurance about safely getting off the planet and out of the Empire’s way.

Unfortunately, she also knew she couldn’t help them all, and how could she possibly decided who she would take to freedom and who would be left behind. The answer was simple. She couldn’t. To suddenly announce that her ship had room for passengers would cause more panic, likely get people killed, and in the worse scenario, prevent the ship from taking off all together.

It pained her to think as much, but long run, she was convinced that the best hope for these people would be that they would survive under the Empire long enough that they could be liberated again.

Fortunately for her, word about the Hive Queen being prepared to take off hadn’t gotten out very fast, and so Jade was able to get to her ship without any delay once she reached its landing zone. That said, she was pleased to see that Gorrop had taken the precaution of raising the entrance ramp until Jade arrived, and it began to lower again once she closed in.

“TAKE OFF!” She shouted as she entered the ship, and they began to leave Cloud City behind.

“<It seems that not everything is against us.>” Gorrop said as she entered the cockpit. “<A Republic fleet has entered the system.>”

“Good.” Jade said. “That takes the creation of an escape plan off my to-do list.”

“<Curiously, it appears that our initial escape may have been pre-mature as well.>” Gorrop added.

Jade scrunched her brow as she turned to look the bug.

“What do you mean?”
“<It appears as thought the Imperial forces are pulling back. The Republic is winning.>”

As much as Jade wanted to be pleased by the turn of events, there was a disturbance in the force that told her that celebration would have been premature. She took over full control of the ships flight path, and slowly turned the ship’s path to take her in a wide circle around Cloud City. It didn’t take long for her to find out what the problem was.

“<Good god…>” Gorrop said as they discovered what was going on.
“By the Force…” Jade gasped as she saw the information about the oncoming missiles and realized what was happening. “They’re going to shoot down the city!”

Her mind raced as she realized what this turn of events meant, then turned the Hive Queen around and took it back to Cloud City. Realizing they didn’t have long, she put every bit of power she could spare into its speed, accelerating it as fast as was humanly possible.

“Find us a place where we can get people off that city!” She shouted as she leapt out of her seat and raced back to the ships entrance ramp. While she could justify leaving these people with the hope that they might survive long enough to see the Empire driven away again, she couldn’t justify leaving them all behind when death was all that awaited them anymore.

“Wingnut, Scraphead, get to the turrets and try to shoot some of those missiles down!” She shouted on her way down, knowing that it was likely a futile effort anyway.

Grabbing E-P0C, she lowered the ships cargo ramp as well, hoping it might give them a little extra room through which to get people onboard and out of harms way.

As the Hive Queen rapidly closed in on the city, Jade began to wonder just how she was going to deal with the crowds.

”This was not a good idea.” She thought to herself, knowing full well that it was an idea she would have to go through with anyway.

Gorrop brought them in towards one of Cloud City’s larger open air landing zones, one at which people had crowded around a number of ships that were unable to take off for some reason. Some looked like they had been shot to pieces during the initial attack on the city. A few looked like they were still in the midst of trying to evacuate people with varying levels of success, some of those being overcrowded and overrun by panic or trying to get less critical damage repaired so they could lift off.

“Gorrop, hover the ship over the landing zone!” She ordered through a commlink. “E-P0C, lift them in through the main entrance, and keep them back if they get violent!”

The appearance of the Hive Queen didn’t go unnoticed for long, even as hovered a good meter or so over the landing deck. The ship quickly started to get surrounded, and Jade helped them up as the arrived. As she started to help one person up, she was forced to let them go when she ducked to avoid a blaster shot. The crowd quickly began to panic as a result, even more than they had been already.

“Get out of the way! I’m next!” Shouted the shooter.

Jade wasn’t about to let someone with his kind of nerve onto her ship. Picking him out of the crowd, she made a small wave with her arm and sent him flying backwards, not concerning herself much with what his ultimate fate would be.

“Stay calm!” Jade shouted. “I’m not going to let you people on my ship if you’re going to start getting violent!”

Her words soon became meaningless to the crowd. She heard the sound of laser fire as the Geonosians tried to shoot missiles out of the sky, and soon after she could see them start to impact the city. The people surrounding her ship began to panic, making the situation worse, especially as Cloud City began to tilt.

Knowing that time was short, Jade began to pick people out of the crowd that didn’t look like they were ready to tear her or her ship apart and lifted them one by one towards the Hive Queen. It wasn’t easy, but the woman pushed herself to get as many of them to safety as she could manage.

After the getting the second or third person safely on board the cargo ramp, Jade took notice that the landing platform was noticeably further away from the ship – the City was falling out of the sky.

“Gorrop, stay with the City!” She ordered over her commlink.
“<I can’t guarantee how close I will be able to keep the ship.>” The Verpine replied.
“Just don’t loose it!” She said back.

The Hive Queen lowered deeper into the atmosphere of Bespin as it followed Cloud City down, even as the station began to accelerate and what ships still had functionality tried to lift off with varying levels of success. Jade doubled her efforts to lift people up to safety, trusting that she could rely on keeping her energy up as long as she needed it.

”Captain Anulay, I must express my doubts about how much longer we can continue this!” E-P0C commed in.
“We’ll keep doing it as long as we can!” Jade shot back.

“<I must concur with E-P0C.>” Gorrop said as the clouds continued to grow thicker as the ship and the station continued to fall. “<The Queen’s sensors are already shouting at me about the danger we face with the doors open. I cannot guarantee our safety much longer!>”

Jade realized she needed to think of a different plan. As long as her ship still had space to squeeze more potential survivors aboard, she didn’t want to leave these people to their doom, at least not the ones that weren’t trying to kill one another. But she couldn’t lead her ship, her crew, and the people she had already saved to their doom in the name of saving one or two more people.

“Stay with it just a bit longer.” She said, and tried to change her focus.

Getting down on one knee and closing her eyes, Jade tried to clear her mind and concentrate on the landing platform itself. Never before had she tried to lift something so large, but if she was ever to pull it off, but if she were to ever try it, now was the time.

Wrapping her mind around the platform, she focused on the metal that was keeping it connected to Cloud City in an attempt to snap them. Slowly, the sounds of bending and breaking metal were heard, even over the whistling of the wind passing around them. Encouraged by her initial success, she continued to focus on breaking the platform off of the city and keeping it from following the city it was connected to into the crushing forces below.

But there wasn’t enough time. The ships warning klaxons sounded as the ships began to energy the danger zone.

No.” Jade thought, determined not to loose her grip. “NO!”

But her concentration was broken, and she fell backwards as the connection was broken and Gorrop began to retreat back away from the planet.

“No…” She whispered as E-P0C began to raise the cargo ramp. Jade began to stand, but had hardly stood on her feet when she felt the deaths of those left behind as Cloud City succumbed to the crushing forces of Bespins lower orbit. Already strained from all the energy she had exerted lifting people onto the Hive Queen and trying to break off the landing platform, she was unable to handle the additional force and blacked out.

Jade opened her eyes and found herself on her bed in her quarters. It took a moment for her to fully come to and remember what had happened, at which point she rolled off her bed just in time to see Ussa scramble out through the door.

With full consciousness also came the realization that Jade was still feeling some of the force disturbance that the destruction of Cloud City had caused. The upside was that it was doing little at this point other than making Jade feel nauseous. The downside was the nausea made her feel like she needed to throw up. Turning to her cabin’s refresher, she let the contents of her stomach empty into the toilet.

She finished cleaning her face off when she heard the signal at her door. Her force senses still out of whack from Bespin, Jade wasn’t able to tell who it was. She dried herself off as she went to the door and found Gorrop waiting on the other side.

“<Captain, I’m glad to see…>”
“Ungh…” Jade mumbled. “Gorrop, could you do me a favor? Basic?” She said, not quite feeling up for the Verpine’s native language.
“Of course.” Gorrop said. “As I was saying, I’m glad to see you’re alright.”
“Guh…”
“In a manner of speaking.”

“How long was I out?” Jade asked. But before Gorrop could answer, Jade stopped him and asked a different question. “No, instead, what planet are we on?”

Jade had spent more than enough time traveling through space to tell that the ship was currently stationary on some kind of stable planetary body, even with her less than idea condition.

“Veronat.” Gorrop replied.
“Where?” Jade asked.
“It’s a planet near the Bespin system. With the number of refugees we rescued, I didn’t want to risk a long trip. Since there were already a number of escape ships traveling from Bespin to Veronat, I thought it would be for the best to follow them.”

Jade nodded as she listened to Gorrops story. She didn’t know if he had taken the best course of action under the circumstances, but she did trust that he had done what he felt was for the best.

“The refugees?” She asked.
“They’re all off the ship. In the hands of others now. The Twins are currently trying to clean up after them.”
“Good.” Jade said, hoping she could try to take care of her…’disturbance hangover’, for lack of a better term, and they take off. “So are there any loose ends we need to worry about?”

“Unfortunately, yes.” Gorrop said, and began to head towards the back of the ship. Sensing that it was important, Jade followed after him.

“The authorities are interested in talking with you regarding our escape from Bespin, and in searching the ship.” The Verpine said. “There seems to be a great deal of suspicion and distrust circling right now regarding the events at Cloud City.”
“Are they waiting outside right now?” Jade asked, afraid she already knew the answer.
“Yes.” Gorrop said. “I have been able to delay on account of your previous condition, and at present E-P0C is doing what he can to keep them at bay.”
“They probably wouldn’t take kindly to us just leaving, would they?” She asked.
“I would find that scenario doubtful.” Gorrop replied.

Jade nodded.

“Alright.” She said. “I’ll try to shake this off, and then see if I can’t ‘convince’ them that we’re not worth their trouble.”

“<Hear what?>” She heard Gorrop say. She turned to face him as she came around a corner.
“Nothing.” Jade said, hoping the matter would pass sooner rather than later and she wouldn’t have to put up with it again. “Just do me a favor, will you? If you could find a few reasons to smack Scraphead between now and when we get off this miserable rock slab, would you?”
“<I’m not one to be inclined to start enacting physical violence against my fellow crewmembers.>” the Verpine said.
“Of course not.” Jade said, glad her friend had some sensibility in the matter, even if it meant she couldn’t count on him to help her give Scraphead reason to watch what he said in the future. “In that case, when you see E-P0C, could you ask him to do it for you?”

The Verpine hesitated, clearly not comfortable with the idea.

“<I…suppose.>” He relented.
“Thank you.” Jade replied. “Speaking of which, where is he right now?”
“<He is escorting Ussa as she attempts to find people she can conduct business with.>”
“Understood.” Jade said, holding up her hand. That was all she needed to know on the matter. She just hoped that the Jawa would be able to stay out of trouble, given the circumstances.
“<Why, are we ready to leave?>” Gorrop asked.

This time, it was Jade’s turn to hesitate as her friend brought up the topic she had evaded over the comm. yesterday.

“No. It’s…a difficult situation.” She said, and found them both seats so she could fill him in a manner that would hopefully give her some means of keeping her head clearer.

“<That is quite troubling.>” Gorrop said as Jade finished explaining the situation to him. Jade could only nod as she waited to see if there was anything else her friend would add.

“<So what do you plan on doing now?>” He asked.
“I’m not quite sure yet.” Jade admitted. “I’m trying to work on something, but at the moment I don’t have much beyond hoping that something happens to Vaxim and this whole matter just gets wiped clean.”
“<That doesn’t sound like a very good plan.>”
“I know. Which is why…” Jade began before she was interrupted by a beeping noise. After considering a moment, she realized it meant someone was trying to contact Gorrop’s commlink.

“Oh, sorry about that.” Jade said. “I left my commlink behind with the crew I stayed with last night in case they needed to contact me while we’re all still here.”

She held out her hand and Gorrop relinquished his device.

“Hello?”
Hello Captain Anulay! Are you still suffering from a hangover?

She cringed as she heard Yorak’s voice. Not so much at who it was, but at how he had chosen to greet her.

“Let’s just leave it at ‘I was drinking last night’, shall we?” She said to Gorrop as she noticed that he was looking at her with a inquisitive face.

“This is Captain Anulay, yes.” She said, and dodged right past the opening question. “What is it?”
You said to contact you if we needed something.” Yorak said. “Guess what? We need something.”

“Does the Tessaret have a holocommunicator?” She asked.
But of course.”

Jade stood up and began to make her way to the Hive Queen’s cockpit.

“Let’s establish a channel and continue our conversation there.”

*****

“There. That’s…better.” Jade said, though she regretted her choice of words when the hologram of Yorak’s upper body and she became unnerved at the smile he was sporting. There was something sinister and mischievous about it that suggested she wasn’t going to like what she was about to hear.

Hello again!” Yorak said.
“So tell me. What is it your crew needs?” Jade asked.
We’re breaking and entering into Varonat’s Administrative Complex and going after Viceroy Langdon.” He said, never wavering from his smile. “We want your help.”

Jade didn’t respond at first, waiting to see if the Ishi Tibb was joking. It soon became clear that he wasn’t.

“You want to run that by me again?” She asked.
”Captain Blake needs to talk with Viceroy Langdon about Tseneca, but to do so we believe we need to gain unauthorized access to the complex so we can talk to him in person.”

Jade rubbed the crest of her nose for a moment as she considered just how to respond to such a request.

“Pardon my asking, but first, why in the galaxy are you asking me to help you participate in what is explicitly an illegal activity that could get me in even worse trouble than I’m already in? More importantly, if you’re planning on breaking the law to get results, why the frak aren’t you going after Vaxim? He’s the real dast problem.”

As briefly as he could, Yorak explained the situation with Tseneca to her. And what he said sparked an idea in Jade’s mind.

“Well what do you know?” She said as she turned to Gorrop.

Yorak simply cocked his head a moment as he remained unprivileged to Gorrop’s prescience.

“No offense, Yorak, but can you get Blake or someone else with plan-making powers on the line?” She said as she turned back to him. “I need to discuss this with someone who isn’t going to have to relay things back and forth.”
I’ll see what I can do.” Yorak said, before cutting the channel.

Jade grinned and turned back to Gorrop as she waited to see who would pop onto the holochannel when it reopened.

“I think I just figured out what we’re going to do next.” She said.

(Continues from Here...more or less...)

“Welcome aboard the Hive Queen.” Jade said as Sethe made his way up the ships entrance ramp.

“Thanks.” He replied, though he didn’t seem entirely thrilled about the upcoming trip. She supposed she couldn’t blame him, given the circumstances.

“Feel free to make yourself at home in the passenger cabin.” She said as she led him up to the main deck. “It’s labeled, sort of, so it should be easy to find if you look on the starboard side the ship.”

She pointed Sethe in the general direction as she slowly began to make her way towards the cockpit.

“Feel free to ask E-P0C if you need to know where to find anything, though I would greatly appreciate it if you could refrain from snooping around in corners you don’t need to be in.”

She made sure to emphasis the last part, making it sound as if it wasn’t so much a request as an order. She wasn’t interested in Sethe poking his head in areas he wasn’t supposed to be in and potentially touching something that could cause all kinds of headaches.

“Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to make sure we’re set for liftoff.”

With a simple nod, she turned without waiting for a response and made her way to the cockpit. Gorrop was already waiting for her, doing a last-minute rundown to ensure everything was clear.

“Do we have clearance?” She asked as she took her seat.
“<Yes. Everything checks out.>” The Verpine said.
“Good.” Jade replied with a smile. “Seems Vaxim is keeping up his end of the bargain thus far. We’ll just need to keep a close eye on the news reports and make sure he follows through with the rest of it.”

She looked at her first mate, who refrained from saying anything but simply looked over the control panels to ensure he wasn’t forgetting anything.

“Let’s get out of here.”

Taking the controls and hitting the last switches, Jade lifted the ship off the planets surface, and soon enough the ship was flying through the atmosphere and making it’s way into the vacuum of space.

“Pull up jump coordinates for Coruscant.” She said as the Hive Queen pushed through the last of the planets protective environmental shell. “I have a quick errand to run before…”

Jade paused mid-sentence. There was a sudden feeling of dread that poured over her as she prepared for her quick trip to Coruscant in order to pay her Mom a brief face to face visit.

She wasn’t entirely sure where it came from, but The Force seemed as good a guess as any. Given how her senses weren’t up to snuff at the moment and how strong the feeling was all the same, she knew there was only one way it could have come to her. She wasn’t sure how it worked or how she knew it, but it was clear that her dad was on Coruscant already.

”Denora.” She thought.

“Scratch that.” She said. “We’re going straight to Dac.”

As small a possibility as it might be, Jade wasn’t about to risk yet another encounter with the elder Jedi. Especially not now, not after how recent their last encounter had been or how had ended.

Gorrop didn’t question his Captain’s decision to ax the previously planned detour from their flight path. He knew well enough that there were some things Jade was aware of that he could never truly understand, and had worked with the woman for long enough to trust the move.

“Besides. I’m sure our guest will be happy to know we’ll be arriving sooner than he was originally expecting.”

In short order, the Hive Queen reached safe jump distance, and Jade wasted no time taking her into hyperspace.

Sethe sat heavily on one of the bunks in the passenger cabin. He felt incredibly warn out, but he could use a shave and a wash rather then stewing in his own self pity, and exterior filth.

He made his way to the 'fresher and poured just enough water to wash with, and not waste. He took a cloth and razor from his bag, as well as a thing of soap and removed his jacket and shirt. He plunged the cloth in the basin and watched as the dirt on his hands started turning the water a muddy brown color, even before he'd washed himself off.

He sighed. It was kind of like looking at his life; just one thing on top of another. He took the cloth and scrubbed at his neck and face, the rest of himself. The water was cold, and felt good in the artificial air of the ships cabin; screw the fact that it was a mess. Lathering soap, he continued washing, and got to shaving; leaving most of his beard but making sure he looked a little better than a backwater planet hermit.

Once finished, he looked hard at himself in the mirror. He looked haggard, and thing was, he knew for sure it was the Trydennian Syndrome, Dr. Fitz's rage virus, taking its effects on him. He could keep plastering himself with sedatives, but the fact that he was an incredibly ill man showed in the bruise-like circles beneath his eyes, the yellowed whites and slightly expanded pupils. His skin was ashen and even his hair was growing faster than he's ever seen it grow. Parts of that monster that had attacked Tseneca on the Blight Leaper only a few weeks before were exceedingly evident in the mirror before him.

He took a tally of his symptoms. uncontrollable agression, anger, bi-polar tendencies... anxiety. He was clammy and warm; exhausted most of the time for fighting whatever demons were trying to control him. He could owe the fact that, before, he was always so certain that he could save everyone, be the brave and invulnerable man that he'd always tried to be; but now he ran. His passivity, where it hadn't been before, had been one of the reasons that Tseneca and the others despised him. Before he died, Lucas had called him a coward. Kyp had accused him of being selfish in light of everything that had happened. Even Nico had been unsympathetic to his apathy. He had become someone he himself couldn't recognize.

He folded his razor and soap in the cloth and wrapped them together to put back in his pack, then removed a clean shirt and pair of pants. well, clean-er, anyway. He dressed and, once presentable, exited the cabin in search of company, or food. Which ever came first.

“I can take it from here.” Jade said as the ship traveled through the blue whirling tunnel of Hyperspace. It was mostly an automated process, but there was always the matter of the mid-flight checklist to tend in order to insure no critical problems would pop up prior to reaching their destination.

Gorrop nodded and exited the cockpit, leaving Jade alone with her thoughts as she checked through the ships instruments readouts. She tried her best not to think about the primary thing that was on her mind – again – but it wasn’t exactly easy. She had sworn long ago never to have anything to do with Denora ever again, but in the past few days it seemed like she couldn’t get rid of him.

What was worse was that she was beginning to fear that it might be some kind of bad omen. Jade wasn’t one to disregard chance and coincidence, but she also knew full well that sometimes circumstances had a greater significance to them.

“Frakking Jase.” She said under her breath. The worst part about it, though, was that he was getting to her without even being anywhere near her. She hated that she was letting him get to her, and she hated that she found it so difficult to get him out of her thoughts.

Closing her eyes, she performed a quick breathing exercise that cleared her head enough that she was able to complete the checklist without the unneeded distraction.

With the list completed, Jade retreated from the cockpit and headed towards the mess hall and get a bite to eat. She walked in on Sethe already present, sitting across from the Twins as he enjoyed something he was eating out of a can. She wasn’t surprised by the mans prescience, the separate passenger and crew lounge and mess halls had been a design feature she had had Gorrop get rid of early on in the rebuilding process. It had seemed like an unnecessary waste of space, especially since transporting her passengers wasn’t that major a source of income for her.

While the two Geonosians appeared to be having a conversation that wasn’t excluding Sethe specifically, she could tell that they weren’t putting much emphasis on making sure the human could understand what they were saying, and she could tell that for the most part Sethe couldn’t make out a single word of what his less than ideal hosts were saying.

“Enjoying yourself?” Jade asked Sethe as she held back a snicker from the humor in the situation.
“Not exactly.” He replied as he tried to clear swallow his food. “They were here when E-P0C showed me in, but then he abandoned me for your Jawa.”

Jade smiled and nodded as she grabbed a snack bar. She couldn’t help but notice that they hadn’t paused or delayed their conversation at all since she had shown up, even when they became the topic of the conversation. From what she could make out of their language, it seemed that Sethe wasn’t even all that important to their conversation, they were just acting like they were trying to included him in order to mess with him.

“Play nice you two.” She said as she bit into her bar.

Sethe swallowed the paste he was eating, gritting his teeth against the texture. He gave up and thrust the spoon into the mixture, watching as it held fast, standing up like a rod.

Jade was watching the geonosians, chiding them half-heartedly. They were messing with him, he could tell. Oddly enough, though, It didn't bother him. Nothing was at this point; that was the good thing about the sedative. It calmed him enough to stay focused.

He pushed his chair from the table and leaned back. "They're always like that?" He asked Anulay, and she swiveled her gaze back to him.

"For the most part. They mean well... sometimes. We don't have to make small talk, Bhren. It wouldn't bother me if you wanted to go to Dac quietly."

Sethe raised his eyebrows. "If that's a request, I'll be happy to oblige..."

She shrugged. "It doesn't matter, I just didn't want you to feel obligated."

He stood and took his bowl over to the disposal. "It is a little awkward, isn't it." He wiped his hands on his pants and stood up straight, facing her. The Geonosian's were still jabbering on, but in lower tones, exchanging glances at them. "It doesn't have to be though. Once we get to Dac, I'll be out of your hair and you know I'm greatfull for your help regardless of how we get along."

Jawa, i'm just breaking the ice a little for being away so long. This post is just to get back in. :-D

“You don’t need to phrase it like that.” Jade said. “It would be hardly fair of me to offer you a ride and then treat you like a bother when you haven’t done anything yet.”

“Sorry.” Sethe said as Jade took another bite. Even without being in touch with her Force Sense, he could tell there was some kind of uneasiness to him at the moment and that he was more subdued than he had been previously. “I guess I’m looking to avoid making you regret the offer. This trip to Dac is real important to me, and I’d hate to make a mess of this as well.”

“Don’t worry about it.” She said, trying to wave off his concern. “This ship has seen far worse passengers over the years, and at your current rate you’d be hard-pressed to come close to some of them.”

She snorted in disgust as she some of them crept up into memory at her own mention of them.

“The last ones, for instance?” She said, recalling the group she’d had right before she’d gone to Bespin. “Had a group of University Frat kids. Rich enough for a nice intergalactic trip, not rich enough for a high-class cruise to get wherever to their destination. Moment they stepped on board, they started acting like they owned the place. Almost tossed the lot of them out an escape pod, in spite of how much they were paying.”

She tried to put them back out of her mind as quickly as they had come in.

“High-class jerks. All of ‘em.” She said, and stuck the rest of her bar in her mouth and started chewing vigorously as she quickly tried to get past the frustration the relatively recent memory brought her.

Sethe sat back down. By now the twins had stopped chattering and he was more at ease around Jade, who seemed to be relaxing quite a bit as well.

"Good to know". He quipped. "I'm trying not to be too interrogative concerning your life, but I have to say, that information explains quite a bit."

"You're a spacer, I figure you'd understand."

"More than you know." He smiled, remembering the crazy amount of fly by passengers both the Escrow and the Leaper had held at one point. He'd miss that ship, for sure.

Outside of his thoughts, Jade was looking at him in a way that suggested curiosity.

"Regardless, you seem calmer."

He cleared his throat. He didn't want to say too much.

"Drugs. I'm... I'll. I contracted a virus on Necropolis." He waved a hand "Nothing contageous. It's why I'm going to Dac. Tseneca's people have developed something of a cure."

“That…sounds terrible.” Jade said with full sincerity. She’d only known that Sethe wanted to get to Dac badly for some reason. She had no idea, however, that it had been for such a serious reason.

“Can I presume this virus had something to do with your troubled behavior back on Varonat?” She asked.

Sethe hesitated in a way that made Jade realize that perhaps the less said, the better.

“Assuming I’m not digging too deep, that is.” She added, knowing that if Sethe didn’t want to talk about it, it was probably best not to push him on the issue. If he had lied about it being contagious, it was far too late to do anything about it before they got to Dac anyway.

Sethe toyed with his fingernails. "It had to do with... most of it." He shook his head. Hopefully it wont matter much now. Look, I don't want to hold you up when you should be... um.. captaining. we shouldn't be too far from our destination any way now, is that right?"

Jawa, I've been terrible, i know. do forgive me. Short and sweet. we don't have to keep talking if you wanna dump me off. LOL

Jade looked at Sethe, trying to figure out whether he was simply trying to get out of the conversation or if his condition had thrown off his sense of time. They had only been traveling through hyperspace for a few hours, and even with the Hive Queen respectable class-1 hyperdrive, the trip from Varonat to Dac was a path that took them practically from one side of the galaxy to the other. It would still be some time before they were anywhere close to Dac itself.

“Um…actually…” Jade said, trying to avoid saying it in a way that would leave the man feeling embarrassed. “Don’t worry. It shouldn’t be too long. But there’s only so many shortcuts you can take on a ship that’s not known as the Millenium Falcon.”

She excused herself from the room, deciding to let Sethe be if that was what he wanted.

“I’m going to go…captain.” She said, poking her upper body half-way in before exiting entirely. “Remember, there’s no other passengers on this ship right now, so the passenger quarters are yours to use as you see fit. Just don’t wreck the place or leave a mess that no one’s going to want to clean up.”

(Hey, no problem. That's life, and there's no harm done. All is forgiven in the matter. I'm still open to additional ship RP, and figure that we can keep this up until either one of us feels like saying 'OK, They're at Dac now!' and speeding things ahead to the actual arrival. Which, based on the current pace of things, feels like a 'who'll blink first' thing. :P )

Jade didn’t see a great deal more of Sethe the remainder of the trip. Best as she could tell, the man spent most of his time in the passenger quarters, only occasionally leaving to get something for his stomach. The woman couldn’t blame him, given his condition, and it was his prerogative to do so.

She didn’t have any idea if he actually was doing much while waiting or just trying to stay out of the way and avoid his condition accidentally causing any problems, but she didn’t care. The man was staying out of trouble, and – according to a report from one of the geonosians that had peeked their heads into the room while Sethe had been busy eating – he wasn’t doing anything obviously questionable with the room, either.

Granted, sometimes it was nice to actually get to know the people she carried around better, but she wasn’t in the friend-making business. Frankly, she wished a lot more of the passengers she carried around had as much sense to not try to cause trouble as Sethe did.

Arrival at Dac came with no complications, and she was fortunate enough that their particular landing bay came on the outer edges of Kee-Piru’s docking zone. At least, that was how Gorrop described the situation. Jade wasn’t quite so sure. While it offered an absolutely fantastic view of the surrounding ocean, Jade had seen dozens upon dozens of planets in her life, and next to some of the things she’d seen, a simple ocean view just didn’t seem that impressive.

More importantly, she had read an information report while in transit to the planet that there was apparently something unusual going on with certain sections of the city’s main spaceport. Probably had something to do with why she was getting a docking slot that would normally have been reserved for higher-class vessels. Frankly, she would have preferred a spot that didn’t leave her wondering if something might go terribly, terribly wrong and get somebody or something hurt.

Once the ship set down on the metal surface of the landing bay, Gorrop took to the matter of settling the post-flight checklist, leaving Jade free to attend to other important matters. First off, she needed to let their passenger know they had finally arrived, assuming he didn’t know that already.

“Sethe Bhren.” She said as she pressed a signal buzzer on the outside of the door. “We have arrived at Dac.”
