Erilnar

Celebratus Archive Repository
Entry No. (400118302-1928823-98181)

ERILNAR I, Erlinar System, Centrality (Grid T-8, 180.250.6) Capital of The Centrality (#ref 39002-129584). A water-rich world settled approximately 6,000 BBY, Erilnar quickly developed as the commercial and political gateway to the worlds that would eventually become The Centrality. Erilnar the site of Treaty of Union, the founding document of the Centrality, c. 3,350 BBY.

- See Complete History of Erilnar (#ref 400118302-1928823-98181-04)

The planet's subterranean monorail system was the target of the "Rache Massacre" (See Operation Rache #ref 199301-19283) by the Renatasian Insurgency (#ref 23981-8321), one of the largest terrorist attacks in galactic history, and the catalyst of the Centran Standing Emergency (#ref 11231-15910)

Population:
Human stock. Recent census numbers place Erilnar's population at four billion. Thousands of years of galactic contact and regional importance have brought a wide array of Near-Human and Non-Human populations into Erilnar's communities and neighbourhoods, particularly around the political and economic centers of the planet.

- See Population Centres of Erilnar (#ref 400118302-1928823-98181-12)

Technology:
Erilar shares a galactic standard of technology throughout it's planetary surface. Due to it's primary terrain, aquatic transportation technology is more advanced than the galactic standard. The planetwide transportation network was heavily damaged in the Rache Massacre, with over one million deaths and 3 million casualties. The health network has been overwhelmed, despite the galactic assistance of both the Galactic Empire, the Galactic Union and the New Republic, and is still straining to assist the survivors as well as the regular needs of the populace.

Culture: Erilnar is considered the cultural capital of The Centrality. It's population is cosmopolitan and advanced.

Politics:
Erinlar is the political capital of the Centrality, and it's political class holds the economic, military and cultural leadership of the Centrality. The multispecial population is divided into a classic modern society of liberal and conservative elements, all underlined by fanatical hatred of disorder, due mainly to the Rache Massacre. As a result, Erilnar and it's population have benefitted from the The Centrality's "Standing Emergency" as more power is centralized into the hands of the Centrality's military and political elite.

Naval Command Station, Erilnar IV - Enforcement Sector

"You have done well, bounty hunter."

The Renatasian Commander was dragged away between two troopers. The Command Officer responsible for "Contract Relations" turned and addressed the bounty hunter.

"Here is your fee." And handed the armoured and helmeted bounty hunter a datapad. He accepted it and looked and it's contents.

"This isn't all of the payment. Where is the rest?"

The Centrans expression changed; it became that of one coming from a totally assured position. He raised an eyebrow in suggested confusion.

"The payment is all there.. minus the fees for "processing", after galactic exchange rates. Rest assured, the fees deducted will go toward future contract payments, and the Centran Government's overall war against Renatasian terrorism."

"I don't care about your war. I wanted the the credits in Republic script; not this weak Centran coin."

The command officer's eyes narrowed. The troopers around him stiffened; became more alert to the tension radiating from the bounty hunter.

"I will do you a favour and forget your.. impertinent outburst here, and not flag you and your ship for detention or inspection. How about you take the reduced bounty and call the rest as the price for your continued ease of transit within the Centrality?"

"The distances between our systems, and the systems of the Centrality and the rest of the galaxy are as you know quite remote.. the goodwill of the Centran Government is all that stands between ruin.. and your own well being. Being harassed by every Centran ship and official that spotted you would quickly.. cut into your resources.

"Now scum, I suggest you take what we have given you and leave. While you can."

Cragus stared at him a moment, at the edge of violence, then turned and left with datapad in hand. Behind him, the Command Officer and his escort tilted their heads in the Centran expression of contempt.

The Green Fountain Salon, Erlinar

The dark of the salon entrance was like a cavemouth in contrast against the bright day outside. Cragus's enhanced ocular sight compensated immediately as he moved past the inactive weapons scanner. His gaze swept over the interior.

In the dirty salon that served as the recruitment center, several dozen sentients were gathered. Although no two possessed the same pieces of clothing, armour or equipment, they all held various types of blasters and other weaponry. There were no regular customers or drunkards here; the salon had clearly been engaged for the day.

The recruiter, an older and grizzled Echani, stood up on the servicetop.

"Welcome, soldiers at arms. You heard the news right, Blackstar's Irregulars is taking on recruits for a short-term contract. The Centrans have bottled the Renatasian terrorists up in the Siege of New Faith. The fighting to root them out will be hard and it will be gritty, but the contracts are generous. We have a big portion on the salvage claims, beyond whatever you can pick up with your own bare appendages."

That got a light laugh. The Echani continued.

"We offer bonuses if you bring your own weapons or your own starship. The subofficers are over there to sign your contracts. May you get rich or die trying!"

The crowd broke up in front of the recruiter. He paused a moment, looking through the crowds as though searching for something. Then he spotted Cragus. The Echani lightly lept down from the servicetop and moved toward Cragus.

"Cragus 12. It has been a while. You haven't changed much."

"But you have." Even Balan had once been a noted and powerful bounty hunter in his time, tracking down contracts for clients all over the Outer Rim. The captain of the Blackstar Irregulars nodded.

"Yes, but we both know how competitive bounty hunting got after the Great Peace 20 years back. The Blackstars started out as a team of bounty hunting, then.. we expanded. Now we're a major infantry unit in the Rim. What brings you here?"

"Looking for work." The Echani nodded, surprised.

"I thought you liked working alone. You were good enough to work alone." Cragus gave a tiny shrug to his shoulders.

"The Centrans cheated me on the last contract, so I'm out of here. I just need the credits to move on."

"Well, we've got a place for you. How's your blaster arm? Good. Still have got The Claw and your pilot droid? Good." Balan paused and looked thoughtful. "I didn't mention this in the little speech back there to all of the bantha fodder out there, but I trust you and your skills. We've worked together, and you're "respectable". You won't back out of a fight and you won't be bought off." The armoured man remained impassive and Balan continued.

"The Centrans have offered us headhunting bounties on Rennie leadership, and I'll forming a hunter-killer team to go in there and score the big bonuses. The pay is a lot higher too. You in?"

The corners of Cragus 12's lips raised slightly.

"I'm in."
