The night had ended and now the sun was rising again. Badim and Clare were already packed and hoped to leave before anyone else paid condolences. Clare’s suggestion. She just wanted to leave Bespin behind as a bad memory and a scar. Badim carried all of the bags, which wasn’t much; and he had snuck away during the night and gathered what belongings were aboard. He had previously moved everything that had belonged to him and Clare to The Escrow from The Leaper, as a motion of remembrance. He had left Ord Mantell so abruptly that he had left them there, and now they were finally in their possession again and not traveling around with the maniacal Mycah.

The datapad told them The Killer’s Fate II was in Docking Bay 16-B. Badim had to find the irony in that: 16-B on Denon was where Clare began to spring her trap with another kiss, setting him up to be captured so she could take down Candrog. The thought made him looked down at Clare. Her head hidden beneath her cloak. Making her look more distraught and depressed than before. It was for her own protection, there was still a bounty out on her head, and until Badim made sure it was gone she’d have to continue wearing the fabric.
15-D…15-E…15-F…16-A Badim was counting off in his head, sighing as he came to the door with 16-B on it. Clare turned to Badim, the two looking in each other’s eyes as they prepared to shove off. Recover. Relax. Strengthen each other through this tribulation that had been set before them. Badim couldn’t help but wonder if Clare would be the same after this tragedy. He prayed that she’d recover to the state she had always been. Her again.

Badim keyed the door, inputting the access code within the datapad and the internal locks twisted, sounded and reverberated throughout the area among the traffic. The door slid open slowly to reveal their new ship. Two forward facing, flat lying pylons stretched on both sides of the ship. With the cockpit protruding from the center, it combined to make an oddly shaped Double-U. There were two quadlasers as well, dorsal and ventral and near the boarding ramp stood the loyal H6-32.

“H6,” Badim called, seeing the distinct reaction from the droid with a turn of his head, “Fire up the engines.” The droid nodded and paced up the ramp, taking a moment to look at Clare and lower his head while he proceeded to follow his Master’s command.

Badim and Clare walked up the ramp side-by-side, Badim stopping for a brief moment to raise the boarding ramp, then continued to follow Clare to their Captains’ Quarters. The door to said quarters opened to them and it revealed the plush, luxury yacht bedroom. Clare went to the bed, removing her cloak while she went. The fabric fell to the ground and she instead turned to the refresher. The doctor’s instructions said she couldn’t take a shower, liquid or sonic, for another week to give the bacta time to heal her wound. So instead she went to at least wash her hair and spray herself with one of the bottles of fully supplied toiletries.
Badim put the bags on a large desk, then going to check on H6-32. On his way he inspected the ship, there was a custom cargo hold that could hold some supplies or serve as a training room for the two. A training room would help take their minds off this tragedy, but until Clare was up to sparing like aboard The Killer’s Fate I, it’d serve it’s purpose as a cargo hold. There was also a crew cabin that could accompany two other people, though Badim knew as much as Clare that H6 was enough to deal with, and they could always shut him off.

They didn’t need company, they needed each other. Badim shook his head and continued the tour. Lucas must have had this customized or purchased this way, since it fitted them perfectly. Though, on such a short notice, he was sure Lucas of all Kuati Nobles could have a ship customized in a day and a half. Maybe it was already like this and just tweaked slightly to fit the couple. Badim probably won’t find the answer to that question and sighed. They were in the air and heading off into space now and he should be in the cockpit to give H6 directions.

When he arrived, he found Clare was already there, she had washed her hair faster than he would have thought. She was probably used to cleansing and dressing herself on the fly with having to constantly switch disguises. And a simple wash of her hair wouldn’t have taken long with that skill. The stars were out and H6 flew precariously close to a moon to slingshot them around the gas giant towards the direction of the nearest hyperlane.
Badim came up behind Clare and wrapped his arms carefully around her waist, higher than normal due to the bacta bag. She was looking at the navicomputer, Badim doing the same as well now, trying to find where they should go.
“Dantooine.” Clare said, her voice direct and with little feeling, but it slowly came back, “I heard small talk from the other mercenaries working for Candrog, while I worked for him too, that the hills near the beachhead in the Khoonda area are relaxing.”

“Not Naboo?” Badim asked. They both had plains, but maybe she knew something he didn’t.

“No. I just want to try something new.” before Badim could disagree, though he wouldn’t have, she had already set the coordinates and they moved to the seats to strap in.

Statement: Hyperdrive Operating at full capacity, ready for transition into Hyperspace in five…four…three…two…one.” The stars and moons stretched, and they were off.

Clare had been asleep the entire trip from Bespin to Dantooine. It was uneventful, boring, depressing. She didn’t want to feel like this, but her body wouldn’t allow her thoughts comfort. She was still troubled by the thought that it was her fault that her body betrayed her, but the girl had disappeared from her dreams. That only lightened the situation and she brought her feet out from under the covers of the bed to the floor, feeling the warm carpet of the bedroom with her bare feet. For a moment she forgot she was on a ship, she wasn’t used to carpeted starships and was expecting cold durasteel.
She looked over her shoulder to see Badim, his eyes open and searching her bare back. She still wore a bra and shorts, but the covers of their bed were warming than she expected and had to take off her nightshirt during the night. Now there was a slight chill and she reached down where she had placed her shirt and put it on.
“How are you this morning?” Badim asked.
“I’m feeling…” she looked at him. She couldn’t lie to him, that would begin to destroy the bridge between them that they were trying to strengthen after what happened on Bespin. And honestly she had so many thoughts in her head of doubt and depression that she shook her head, “I’m not feeling good.” she wrapped her arms around herself just below her breasts, hanging her head as she sighed shakily. This was a lot to take in. At one moment she was pregnant with the man she loves, then she wasn’t, and because of her body’s betrayal she likely couldn’t have a child again. She still couldn’t figure out how it could have been her fault, but she just knew it was somehow. Badim seemed to have read her mind, or she was just expressing something his eighth Lorrdian side could pick up.
He swept up behind and then sat next to her, wrapping her tightly in his arms and she couldn’t stop the impulse to hug him as well no matter how much she wanted to stay in this melancholy state, to use it to figure out the cause of why this had happened, then he said,
“It’s not your fault Clare. I already told you, things happen that we can’t control and we have to deal with it,” he looked at her, the floor then back again after having found something, “Fate gives us challenges to overcome. It tested our love by having Jelahan attack you, it tested our commitment when it made you pregnant. And it tested our resolve with Bespin.”

Clare didn’t know if she should believe Badim. She didn’t think that it could be passed up that easily as a challenge. It was easy for him to say that for him to try and comfort her, but it was harder for her to take that to heart and come out of this slump. She likely couldn’t even bare children now with the damage done, and that’s what scarred her. She had helped save Badim because he was a person who had dealt with his failures and could help her deal with hers, to make sure he lived to save another life from the crosshairs of corruption.
She honestly had only held hope that Badim felt the same way about her, and hadn’t thought of actually continuing his new legacy of saving innocent lives. That changed when they first slept together. Her attraction to him saved his life and brought them together, now they needed to stay together. In the past two months, since the time they met through to now, they had been through so much together. Now it seemed, to her, that it was crashing down and all they could do is hold on and hope for the best.
Clare turned to Badim, then kissed him softly on his lips, much like their first official one to express her appreciation for the help. Though she still felt down.

A soft chime sounded and she realized what it was. They were coming out of hyperspace.

Clare’s eyes stirred and she felt the comfortable couch she had been sleeping on for Badim. She didn’t feel him there and her eyes opened groggily and her vision came into focus. She was laying on her side, facing the back of the couch with her face nuzzled in it’s soft contours. It wasn’t leather, which she enjoyed the soft feel of cotton. She turned and looked around the room, taking care not to disturb the bacta bag still attached to her abdomen.

Clare saw an empty lounge, only herself residing inside and she wondered where Badim had gone. She got up, clutched the blanket that had covered her and searched The Fate for him. She checked their cabin to only see a recently disturbed sanistream shower with droplets of water still adorning the glass door, and a towel carelessly tossed in a hamper. She smiled, that was her Badim alright.

She quickly rummaged through the medicine cabinet for her last pain pill and tiresomely placed it in her mouth and drank the filtered, though effectively recycled water from the sink faucet. She sighed, her last one for the past few days, the last one she needed to down. Now just a few more days and she’d have the frakking bacta bag off of her and she’d be able to move again. Though it’d be a lot longer before anything spectacular happened with her and Badim.

Thinking of Badim, she quickly continued her search for him, leading her to the cockpit where she found him talking into the ship’s built in Hypercomm. Only a luxury ship such as The Fate could have such a device readily available for them.
“Yeah, I miss you too, Julia.” Badim said, and Clare was taken back for a minute before she realized Badim must have been talking to his mother. She couldn’t help but smirk.

Badim being an assassin, he surely caught on to her presence and said, “You remember Clare, right?”

Clare took that as her cue to appear to the hologram and stepped beside Badim, giving him a good morning kiss on his cheek.
“How could I forget?” Badim’s mother said with a smile, her features in a ghost blue hologram, her brown-blonde hair in a duller blue than the rest of the holographic contrast, “How are you doing, Clare? Keeping my son in check?”

Clare didn’t feel like speaking, but in this case she had to, “As best as I can, Miss Soilding,” she glared at Badim with a devious smile, “But he can be stubborn sometimes.”

Miss Soilding smiled at her son‘s dismay, “Please, call me Julia.”
Clare nodded in reply.

“So, when are you two planning on visiting again? Naboo seems brighter since you two showed up a few weeks ago.”

Badim looked to Clare, glanced down at her area of injury and back into her eyes. Clare shrugged her shoulders.
“I’d say about a week,” Badim said, “We just need a little time to ourselves for a bit.”

“You’ve had more than three weeks, longer even. Why do you two need more time?” Julia persisted. There was only so much that could have been shared between Badim and his parents in the short time they were there, so Julia’s persistence was understandable.
“We…” Badim looked at Clare for a moment, then back to the ghostly hologram of his mother, “We had a problem on Bespin and, we just need some time to recover. We’ll tell you more in person when we get there.” He glanced at Clare, then continued, “See you in three days. Love you, tell Janos the same.”

Julia smiled and the image faded. “Three days huh?” Clare asked rhetorically, “Think Sara would want to come?”

Badim leaned into his chair, “Nah. She’s got her Jedi biz to take care of. Besides, I don’t know how long she’s going to be away, her comlink’s signal is heading North.”

“North huh?” Clare confirmed, went to a console in the cockpit and brought up a downloaded local map of the area, “North is a Jedi-Only Restricted Zone. Crystal cave it says. What’s your thoughts?”

Badim shrugged and smiled, “Don’t know. Jedi biz.”

Clare sat in the co-pilot seat and propped her feet up on a console carefully, “Sounds like you’re jealous.”

Badim glared at her and playfully huffed out of the cockpit. Clare pressed a switch on the console and the viewports polarized and darkened. She had a few hours of sleep to catch up on.

Badim finished his recital. He had spied that Clare had gone to sleep in the cockpit and he needed to calm his nerves. He saw this as a perfect time to get the much needed practice in. He placed the vibroblade back where he had picked it up and left for the cockpit. He had only been gone for a few minutes, fifteen at the most. Clare was fast asleep in the cockpit and it was going to take roughly three days to get to Naboo. Maybe they’d show up early, most of hyperspace is spent sleeping anyways, which meant the time would fly by fast.

Badim kept the viewports polarized and typed in commands and pressed buttons as quietly as possible to not disturb Clare. The engines whispered to life and he lifted the ship and gently angled it towards the stars. He looked at his comlink and quickly sent Sara a typed message describing their departure and to wish her the best of luck. Signing off with the widely used May The Force Be With You.

He clipped the comlink back to his belt and his console told him that they had left atmosphere. He gently depolarized the viewports to the dark vacuum of space, lit only with the faint light of stars. He stood from his chair and entered the coordinates for Naboo. He checked the numbers and matched them to the location of Naboo. He wasn’t a Hyperspace Specialist, but traveling and not landing on a random planet and crashing, that much he knew. Satisfied with the coordinates, he went back to his chair and slowly pushed the lever forward, hearing the faint hum and the whining whisper of the hyperdrive sending them into Hyperspace without so much as a jolt, jerk or flinch.

Badim quickly re-polarized the viewports again to not wake Clare, though the co-pilots chair wasn’t the best place for her to rest. He carefully spun her chair around and stood, placing his right arm underneath her legs and his left arm behind her shoulders. He lifted and instantly felt nothing. She was light and nimble, but deadly all the same. As quietly and carefully as he could he took her back to their quarters and placed her under the covers. She stirred slightly with a tiresome moan, but then took to the comfort of the bed and rested.

Badim was up for another hour or so, organizing their things that had yet to be unpacked and then joined Clare in rest, the room dimmed with a press of a button next to the head of the bed, and soon Badim’s vision also dimmed into slumber.

Day Three. Clare repeated in her head. Her scar had healed and it was time to remove the bacta bag. She lay in the sanitub in her bra and panties, Badim there on his knees to help. He held in his hand a bottle of dissolvent that would remove the adhesive that kept the bag attached to her, water could do it too which was why she couldn’t take any showers, but the dissolvent worked much faster than a sanistream.

Clare smiled, it was time to rid herself of the clear blue bag and get mobile again. Maybe Badim would let her spar with him after this, she was far out of practice with a vibroblade, and too far in practice with her blaster. She was sure the same was apparent with Badim.
Badim nodded and squirted the cold liquid around the edge of the bag, and she could already feel a warming sensation as the plastic gave and began to remove itself. In a flash of motion the bacta within poured out and emptied, and her body tingled with the healing solution.
She reached down and peeled the rest of the clinging plastic away, propping herself up and tossing the remains in a bin.

She stood, Badim joining her as though in obligation. She flicked her hand dismissively, Badim looking a little confused at the gesture. In reply she grabbed a towel and shut the glass door to the sanistream shower-bath combo. With a press of the button the glass polarized and she rid herself of her undergarments, tossing them over the glass door and next to Badim.
“I’ll make breakfast I guess.” she heard Badim begin to walk away and she shook her smirk off her face and ran the warm water over her body. It felt good to take a shower again.

Badim and Clare had finished their breakfast and were in the cockpit, peering out at the swirls of hyperspace in the last few moments of their flight towards Naboo. Breakfast was simple, just some eggs and a few pieces of meat. And Clare never looked more beautiful now that she had showered. She smelled like vanilla and her hair looked like she had when she played a Kuati Diplomat on Hoth, combed straight with a braid running down the left side of her gentle face. He couldn’t help but see her for the first time again, when they first sparred together on The Killer’s Fate I.

She glanced in his direction and leaned back in the copilots chair, though only to straighten when the swirling blue vortex flashed and disappeared. Revealing the mosaic colors of blue, green and white that belonged to Naboo. Theed was in early morning at this time right now, and Badim’s parents were probably just getting up for breakfast themselves.

Badim turned fully to Clare. She tilted her head to meet him. He might certainly regret this, but it had been a week or so since the operation. And she had been craving to spar with him and said, “We’ve got about a half hour before we land,” he stood from his chair and began to walk out, Clare’s eyes following his movements, “Let’s get some practice in.”

Clare jumped to her feet and was instantly next to Badim while they both moved towards the cargo hold.

Clare and Badim stood ten feet from each other inside the cargo hold. H6 had reorganized the hold to be more orderly and the entire center was cleared for their practices. Though there were still a few crates in the back of the hold as a holdout position should the ship get boarded by hostiles. She thought it was a sound idea even if Badim didn’t agree with it.
Clare’s fingers flexed around the hilt of her dulled training vibroblade, she didn’t want to seriously hurt Badim now did she? Badim brought his blade up and alongside him in a starting position and Clare followed the motion.
H6 stood at the entrance of the hold, peering at the two before saying, “Statement: Master, don’t damage Clare too much. She is useful to our mission and I would not find it enjoyable to lessen our chances of success against Nico once we rejoin the effort in stopping her.”
Clare glared at the droid, but found it understandable. No one had seen her in action, and for all they knew she was just a looker who could shoot a blaster and aim at people‘s feet. They had no idea what she was capable of and she was certainly on par if not better than Badim’s skills. Though she’d have to put that theory to the test. H6 left and now it was just her and Badim.

“Don’t go easy on me, Anesho. I don’t want this to be unfair now.” She straightened her blade and saw Badim shake his head in amusement.

“Whatever you say, Patessa.”

Clare took that as a signal and was the first to lunge forward, Badim meeting her halfway and their blades clashed. The blades humming while sparks ignited, flashed then fell gracefully to the durasteel plating below their feet. They both gleamed into each other’s eyes for a moment before breaking off and concentrating on the combat at hand. Clare parried a sudden swipe from Badim and Clare took the opening he had made and struck downwards on him.

His free hand came up; she thought for a split second she was going to cut his hand off and deactivated her vibrating core with a flick of her finger. Then she heard a clink and saw a glint while a metal shaft shoot out and deflected her blow.

Clare took a few steps back, Badim recovering and Clare in confusion at the secret weapon she hadn’t been told about. Badim flexed his finger in a backlash motion and the blade retracted, “I picked this pair up on Coruscant just after Jelahan kidnapped you.” He had finally rephrased killed you, which meant he was putting it behind. He pulled his sleeve back and showed the item that wrapped around his arm, then went to his other arm and did the same. He had two of them, which meant he was technically using three blades against one. She could use that to her advantage.

“No secret weapons, Anesho. Drop the vibroknives so it’s fair.” She insisted.

Badim shrugged and unlaced the straps on one and let it fall to the floor. Kicking it aside he began on the other one and she made her move. She lunged forward again and Badim, thinking this was a brief timeout was taken by complete surprise and all he could do is parry her blows as he struggled to regain control of his footing. But if this were a real fight she wouldn’t have lightened up, and neither would he. So she kept the pressure on.

Their blades clashed again and they both looked at each other again, “I never thought you’d be this good at fighting Clare.” Badim said, “You probably would have killed me months ago if you hadn’t eased up on The Fate.”

Clare let a devilish smirk cross her face, “I probably would have too, if you weren’t so handsome.”

Badim laughed, but made the mistake to close his eyes while he did. She shoved him back and made a swipe to his legs. His eyes had shot open and he saw the move, jumping a foot in the air and making her swing miss. She kept up the momentum and made a full circle with the blade, clashing and deflecting off his blade.
She sprung to her feet and outright dodged an overhead strike from Badim. Now he had her on the defense and she didn’t like it. She dropped to her knees and swung her leg around, hitting Badim in a flash of motion that made him topple to the ground with a thud. He let off a curse and Clare jumped on him.

Her legs spread apart to make sure she was as close to him as possible and stopped her blade just above his neck, “Looks like I came out on top this time.” She smirked.

“Look down.”

She had already won, so she didn’t see any harm in looking down. She wished she hadn’t. She looked down and saw Badim’s hand had been pressed against her waist. It was the hand that was still armed with his hidden vibroknife and she scoffed, “Fine then. A draw.”

“Next time I’ll remove the vibroknives. But yes, a draw for now.”

Clare moved her legs off of him, though they were in the perfect position to begin the act that had suddenly crossed her mind, and her emotions and adrenaline were clearly high enough for it to start in an instant, her body had yet to recover internally from the injury she had and she physically and medically couldn‘t do it for a long while. She helped Badim up and placed their vibroblades on the rack they were usually strung.

Clare whirled around and kissed Badim softly on the lips, “Thanks for the practice.” She said through her lips.

“You’re welcome.” Badim said, grabbing her by the waist gently to continue.

But of all times H6 reentered the room, “Statement: Master. Clare. We are entering the atmosphere of Naboo and will land in Theed within ten minutes,” He began to move towards a standup compartment in the hold, “Statement: If you require my services, I will be here keeping my presence unknown to those wary of my model’s kind.”

The droid shut the locker-like compartment behind him and they heard a reverberating, “Huuuuuuuuuh,” as he simulated a sigh. She had to suppress a snicker and so did Badim. They left for the cockpit to watch the landing.

Clare and the Soildings entered The Killer’s Fate II, Janos and Julia questioning how Badim had acquired it. He told the truth of course and showed them to their cabin. Janos and Julia had brought only a few things with them, blasters and clothes were among the them as well as some memorabilia. Clare kept quiet from then on, pacing into the cargo hold to let H6 out. He was deactivated and with a quick tap to his skull, his response systems activated and he himself turned on.
Clare told him about their company, who would probably react badly to his model‘s reputation. He sighed and they took a less direct path to the cockpit.

They entered to see Badim at the ship’s controls, beginning the startup sequence. She took the liberty of selecting Carratos on the navicomputer, hesitating for a moment as she thought back to Char, how he had impersonated her appearance and movements to near perfection. It wasn’t an absolute clone of her, but a good one in the least.
“Clare?” Badim asked, seeing her hesitate. He had finished the startup sequence and they were actually now in space. Long moment, she muttered in her head. She hadn’t even felt the ship move, and likely their new passengers hadn’t either.

She shook her head and finally selected Carratos. Char would be long gone, off on another planet trying to find her or another target.
“I’m fine.” she answered as she settled in her seat, watching the stream of stars envelop the ship without so much as a flinch.

Janos came in, “Are we going to get off this planet or what--?” he saw they were in hyperspace and was astonished that he hadn’t felt it, shook his head and became wide-eyed when he saw H6. H6 turning to face him with his unmoving, and sometimes intimidating look on his face. Janos asked what H6 was, and he was happy to explain:
Explaination: I, sir, am an IG-One-Fifty-Two Combat Protocol Droid. I am fluent in as many languages and diplomatic processes a weak Cybot droid can possess, and all the deadly combat programming as an IG droid. Though normally my Protocol side would have overridden my combat settings, unless when engaged in combat to protect my Master; a malfunction involving a womp rat damaged me, and when I was repaired my duel personalities, as you organics would compare to, were merged and I am now as you see.”

Everyone stayed mute for a moment, letting Janos take it in and giving H6 a moment to say anything else if he wanted, “Greetings: I am H6-32. It is a pleasure to meet you organic. I do hope you can handle a weapon such as my Masters.”

Masters wasn’t something he normally used to reference them. Normally he say Master and Clare. Maybe he considered her an owner as well, but she didn’t delve into it.
“As a matter of fact,” Janos said, “I am a retired bounty hunter with some life left in me.”

Enthusiastic: I am pleased to hear that, Retired Bounty Hunter. Now, I will prepare the ventral quad-laser turret for out inevitable combat with The Ravager’s space faring fleet.”

H6 strode out and Janos turned to Badim and Clare, “Fleet?”

Clare nodded, “Last time I was there they had a functioning fleet of several vessels. Mismatched fighters, jury-rigged corvettes and frigates, and two Action IV ships to raid passing cargo ships.”

Janos left after a moment, probably realizing that his once friend had turned into such a tyrant.

“Clare?” Badim asked again, “What happened with the navicomputer a while ago?”
He wasn’t going to let it go, she could tell and feel it through his hand that was placed on her arm. And she couldn’t hide anything from him, no more secrets they had promised and no more secret lives.
“I was copied on Carratos. A clawdite tried getting the bounty on Jevan, Morgan, Norrteth and me. He copied me and picked a fight with Morgan. He of course disappeared in the general direction Jevan and I were, and Morgan attacked us. We fell unconscious and Char, the clawdite, was captured just a bit afterwards by Morgan and Norrteth. But the point is, later Char escaped and he can now use me to pin stuff to. I’m…” she paused, she couldn’t say she was afraid. The thing was she was but didn’t want to admit it, “I just think he might still be there.”

“Then we’ll take care of him together.”

Clare smiled and thanked him. Badim left to check on his parents, and Clare propped her feet up on the console, polarized the viewports and drifted off to sleep. She’d need the rest, and Carratos wasn’t the place to do so.

It was a long trip by several days. Carratos was out of the way from Naboo, but it gave Badim ample time to get reacquainted with the family who abandoned him for his own safety. He sighed in resignation and went back to work, his E-11 was dismantled and he was cleaning the various components. He hadn’t done so in a long time, and found gunk from several places in the galaxy, from Nal Hutta to Felucia, and from Ord Mantell to Nar Shaddaa. It seemed wherever he had gone some pieces of the planets had stayed with him. It was a sort of closer for Badim; putting away those memories, if only the bad ones.

Satisfied with his work he reassembled the pieces, having done so many times and coming to him as second nature now. He had taken time to dismantle and clean all of his weapons, his vibroblade had been carefully tuned, his DL-44 had undergone the same process his E-11 did. Each of his blades were sharpened and he observed his now finished work. He picked up his vibroblade and inspected the sharp edge, making sure it was as sharp as can be.

“You take your sweet time in preparing your weapons,” his father commented from behind him, though Badim had a vague understanding that he was there for the majority of his cleaning and preparing but never paid much attention.
“Better to do it slow and get it right the first time.” Badim replied.

They both heard a slight alarm sound, indicating that they had exited hyperspace and were now in the O’pahz system.

How could any of this be real? This had to be some kind of joke Candrog left behind. Could it even make sense to believe she‘s actually a clone? Really? Why would her criminal employer go through so much trouble just to revive her? Growing and looking just like the original, with just a different mother and father. It seemed like one thing after another happened to her and those around her recently. The crew had their fair share of stuff happen to them. If you think you’ve got it bad, I’ve got a planet to run. Oh yeah? I’m a frakking clone of a dead person. Beat that.

Clare sighed. Was this the only way she could combat this? Petty puns from holovids in her head? Badim stepped in and took the controls. Jan had left a few minutes earlier after some ignoring. It was good to be rid of them. Now it was just her and Badim. The way it started for them.
She typed in a few commands in her console, sending flight controls to Badim so he could pick wherever it is he wanted to go. Her mission was done. All she had to do now was figure out what to do now, knowing she’s Subject 001.
She looked at Badim from the corner of her eye, a clearly visible scar across the right-side of his face. H6 was with herself collecting a list of names for this mission, and Badim was off getting supplies. He had been jumped, handled himself fairly well. She only cared that he was alive and not dead. A scar was better than death.
There was a familiar odor in the air and she snorted. “Drinking your beer again?”

“Not anymore.” He replied.

“What? You find out it tastes like piss?” Clare joked, ending it with a clear laugh.

“More than tastes.” Badim said somewhat cryptically. She opened her mouth to ask what he meant, but he raised a hand. “Don’t ask. Resth took care of that little habit.”

Clare slumped back into her seat. Watching the stars morph into lines into the blue vortex she had seen so much of in her life. She didn’t know where they were heading, and didn’t care. As long as they were away from Ylesia and those doctors. “We’re going to have to tell the crew at some point. Slowly though.”

“Badim, if I know the crew like I do, slow won’t work.” She reasoned. “They work fast just like us. Hit us with the bulk of it and forget about it.”

“This isn’t the normal I’m an assassin here to kill my boyfriend situation, Clare. This is way bigger.”

That. It seemed like neither of them were over their relationship, even if it took a downturn to what some people, don’t know who, would call Splitsville. Everything was turning for the worse recently. The Empire returning and starting war, bounties and previous grudges playing out. Hell this isn’t the first time she’s been cloned, with that Clawdite on Carratos copying her. That was only a day, what she found out today has been going on for more than two decades. More if you want to include her previous life.

“Badim.” She said in a low voice. Her head tilting towards him slowly. “I’ve been treating you like shit…”

“Doesn’t mind me.” Badim shrugged. “Been treated worse.”

“No, you don’t understand. You staying with me through all of this, it means a lot.”

Their eyes met for a moment. She could have sworn it was the same as when they had first sparred together on the first Killer’s Fate. Their moment ended when that Mon Calamari entered the cockpit.

“May I ask where we’re going?” He had asked. Clare turned back to Badim and glared.

“What’s he doing here? I thought he was on Ylesia?”

Badim let a smile slide across his face and into a smirk. “Clare. Meet Doc, our new medics. Doc, meet Clare.” He looked at her directly, letting the navicomputer fully take over the task of flinging them across the galaxy. “Face it, Clare.” I don’t have to. “We’re getting into more dangerous situations every day, the crew too. It’ll pay off in the long run to have a medic.”

Yeah, we’ll see. Clare stood and brushed her shoulder against Resth and went to her quarters. She didn’t mind doctors, but this one in particular she didn’t fancy having aboard the ship.

A klaxon awoke Badim from his sleep, his feet leaping into the air and slamming right back down onto the console he had had them resting on. His eyes were open with alarm and he searched around the cockpit. Nothing out of the ordinary, still in hyperspace, that’s all he could gather from his groggy eyes. Blinking hard several times his vision cleared and the klaxon faded. He looked onto the computer console and figured out what it was: They were coming out of hyperspace. I should be used to that by now. He criticized. Truth be told, he had only been pilot ships for about three months. Even then, he shouldn’t be jumping out of his sleep because of it.

He rubbed his eyes clear of crust, leaned forward and looked at their ETA to exiting hyperspace. Ten minutes. Still a ways out.

This was going to be a welcome release from their running around the galaxy on that supposed womp rat of a chase. Clare might not be welcome to relaxing with this new information, but it didn’t change his mindset on her. She was still herself. That’s all that mattered. Sure, bringing up the topic of being a clone may not be the best caf table discussion, but she was alive wasn’t she? Maybe Resth could actually undo flaws done by the cloning, maybe Clare and himself could try again. Problem is, they both were acting like they didn’t need a relationship with each other. Even with Clare’s apology to treating him like, quote shit, it didn’t change the fact their paths had separated from each other. Sure, they were still flying together in this ship, but they were done. Captain-Crew relationship. As it should have been. It sure as frakking hell would have saved them both some hard aches and pains dealing with Jelahan. Give or take both of their lives being taken from Candrog, it would have saved them a lot.

Badim shook his head. All in the past. All he could do now was keep the crew relation they have right now, with the addition of Doctors Resth and Nams.

Speaking of the doctors, Resth entered the cockpit. He was still wearing his lab coat, but that was understandable, not much else to wear. He was pretty sure while he was on hours, it was the only thing he could wear. Nothing much to worry, however, Badim was sure there was some sort of clothing store where they were going.
“How long has it been since you’ve been in hyperspace, Resth?” Badim asked.

Resth took the copilot’s seat while he thought, his eyes drifting while he calculated it all into a number.
“Oooh. I’d say twenty or more years.”

“Good to be back in space, huh?” Badim smirked. He loved the feel of being on the ground where he was in control of where he moved, he might even take up urban exploration when he . But here in space, he possibly loved it more. It got him from place to place, new challenges each time he exited. This time though, he’d take on relaxing for a change of pace.

Resth looked wary. “Oh come on.” Badim reasoned. “It’s not all that different from sea sickness, something you Calamari have had down for thousands of years.”

“If you knew me more than a medical acquaintance, you’d know there’s a difference when it comes to me.”

Space sick. He gets space sick. Never would have pegged him with that. “Not the…very space sick kind are you?”

Resth looked at Badim. Thankfully for Badim, he shook his head. “Just an unsettled stomach, nothing major.”

Soon enough Clare and Jan entered as well, taking whatever seats were available. Clare looked like she didn’t get any sleep at all, Jan the complete opposite. Clare crossed her arms and looked to Badim.
“So where are we going anyways?” She asked. “You haven’t told any of us.”

“Oh don’t worry about that Clare.” Badim smirked. Gripping the joystick with eagerness. “You’re all going to like this.”

The countdown timer ended and they exited hyperspace. In front of them was an Action IV freighter a few thousand feet away from them to their left. But that wasn’t what he had come for. Before his eyes he saw a large spherical station, with six saucer flat extensions stretched out from the central sphere. Ships of all kinds were docked to those saucers. Clare had leaned forward with Resth and Jan. Curiosity was in their eyes and Badim couldn’t help but answer their curiosity.

“Welcome. To the Exospheric Club.”

Clare cycled the airlock to the Fate and waited for it to pressurize, Badim at her side. This wasn’t the way she’d actually like to spend downtime, almost ruining what they had built up together. At least they had dealt with their daemons, hopefully. Things changed for the worst when they had arrived, maybe for the better now. They could move on, understand each other better. Get back to the way they had been. She reached down and pressed her fingers between Badim’s, placing her head on his shoulder. It had been so long since she had done this. She felt his head rest on hers. Just like old times. It was to be short lived, the airlock cycled fully and she opened her eyes. Realizing what a mess the ship was in. A ceiling light flickered and died fairly quickly. What was holding this ship together? They were still missing the dorsal turret after their run in on Carratos chasing down the Ravagers, not to mention they had a bit of trouble with life support two weeks back while they were on Nar Shaddaa.

Badim let out a sigh. He knew it too. He shook his head and moved inside, heading towards the cockpit to prepare for departure. Clare turned and closed the airlock once more, somewhere deep in her mind she half-expected Alin to show up. Damn that’d be horrible. It truly was a mistake she made, even if she felt neglected. She and Badim had a future together, not just some guy she met at a night club. Or she at least hoped, but the signs were good.

Checking that the seals were tightened down and airtight, she pressed forward into the ship. She stopped by the infirmary, Jan was taking inventory, she looked up and flashed Clare a smile. For someone in her forties, she didn’t look that old. Clare gave a nod. After all she was the one who found Badim in the infirmary on the Exospheric Club. Clare could hear Resth and Badim talking in the cockpit as she approached. Small talk on the feeling -- and regret -- of a hangover. She knew it wasn’t that important from the way they were talking, mainly just a way to pass the time while Badim maneuvered away from the moorings.

“Where’s our next stop?” Clare asked. Resth looked over at her while Badim didn’t glance away from the controls in concentrations. Resth shrugged, turning to Badim for an answer.

“Kuat.” He said plainly. He tapped his fist on a bulkhead above his head. “This ship needs repairs before we trudge off anywhere.”

Clare smiled and stepped in. “Obviously.” Resth stood to leave but Badim motioned him to stay. He com’ed Jan to the cockpit while Clare leaned against some non-functioning controls. Once the crew was assembled, and the ship was in hyperspace towards Kuat, Badim swiveled his chair to face the three.

“This is a crew decision. But I’ve been thinking.” He cupped his hands underneath his chin. “Cash is getting a little…Well I’ll put it bluntly, the drinks were pretty damn expensive at that resort, and we’ve got just enough to get us to Kuat, get repairs and then to a final location, then we’ve got to come up with creds to keep the Fate running.”

“What about Candrog’s account?” Clare asked.

“And how long until whoever owns that account notices credits are disappearing in fifty-thousand credit sums?” Badim responded in a cool voice. “We need any sort of income, we don’t have Lucas as it is or his stacks of cred chits.”

“Or his magic snapping fingers.” Clare noted. Badim nodded.

“Lucas?” Resth asked after a glance towards Jan.

“Lucas Davad.” Clare said. “Kuati heir to Kuat Drive Yards. We hang a lot.” Clare smiled. Obviously Resth and Jan were surprised to hear that they were close enough to get handouts from the heir.

“Nevermind on that.” Badim pressed on. “What do you all think of bounty hunting?”

Silence fell over the cockpit, wayward glances were exchanged while thoughts collected themselves. Bounty hunting? When had Badim been putting that together? Sure, it made sense with their skills, but bounty hunting wasn’t a clear-cut join and reap the benefits type business. The long silence continued, until she finally spoke up.

“You know it’s not going to be easy, right?”
“Yeah.” He nodded.
“It’s not the same as killing some sort of figure for a crime boss.”
“Uh-huh.”
“Criminals and such.”
“Mm-hmm.”
“Deathheads, serial killers.”
“You in or not?”

Clare paused for a moment. “Hell yes.”

Resth and Jan after a bit more consideration, agreed as well. Now all they had to do was get to Kuat, then pick out the planet they were going to start bounty hunting on first.

Badim let his head rest on the soft, cool pillow belonging to the king sized bed of his quarters, his aforementioned head spinning somewhat around the cost of the coming repairs. A sanistream didn’t help at all. Made him feel, and let’s be frank smell better, but not with his thoughts. He voice a loud, distressed, tired and annoyed sigh. Logistics. That was SAMMs job, not his. Who knows, maybe if they were lucky they would score an AI. Debatable of course, but he couldn’t help but entertain the thought. It’d make things easier around here. Times like these made him miss H6, somewhere in the galaxy without so much as a peep since their last transmission.
Come to think of it, since Bespin, he’s become somewhat ship-sick for the Leaper. Friends of his, perhaps even family who had watched his back as he did them. So many to name, but he named them all. Entertaining another thought, he wondered if there was a bounty for Mycah out there, certainly they’d all love to see him…her…it out of the way, whatever sex s-he decided to prefer. Bisexuals, the thought sent a chill up his mind, people who can’t make up their minds. Another sigh. Social studies wasn’t a key subject of his either, but a vital one for his occupation of choice nonetheless.

A knock at the door and Clare entered. The door’s alert system of bleetle-bloop had been damaged during their incursion into Carratos, a fact that had presented itself after Badim had tried getting Clare’s attention by pressing the entry button to no luck. She only opened the door after he knocked with his bare hand, and after closer examination, she was right that she hadn’t heard the alert at all, forcing them to switch to knocking instead of ringing. He’d make sure that system gets repaired, people could get caught with an embarrassing moment if it wasn’t operating. One that had also taken place during transit to Ylesia.

Clare sat beside Badim. She let him know they were an hour outside of entering the Kuat System. She also made a note of how non-dingy he smelled.
“I didn’t want to say anything.” she admitted. Raising her eyebrows in a teasing manner. They were always like this before they had started the search for Resth and the others, it was good to see it again.
“Don’t ask, don’t tell.” He shot back. His eyes drew back to the ceiling, Clare laying beside him and staring as well. He didn’t know why, but this seemed to help him think. Tracing invisible lines across the near invisible seams between durasteel plates.
“Clare.” He asked.
“Hmm?”

Badim sat up, pressing himself against the bed’s backboard while he organized his thoughts. If they were serious about getting back together, he’d need to bring up the right words shouldn’t he?
“A lot’s happened since Denon.” He recalled, a smile emerging in the corner of his mouth as he remembered what had happened there. Him falling for Clare, her turning out to be an assassin out to kill him in front of her boss, Candrog De‘lotre. Then asking for repentance, having seen she had developed feelings for him as well. He was glad he withheld the spit that was building up, begging to be spat in her direction for the deceit after she had turned her blaster towards Candrog. Little did they both know, he had been a step ahead of her. An Advanced Slaving Collar was around her neck. Who would have guessed? Controlling her very actions while she was fully aware of what was happening. Thankfully they both had the crew crash in the perfect moment, just as he was going to accept death so she would live.

Clare nodded, a nervous shrug after remembering her stunning him in the hangar bay. She scooted up next to him, waiting for what he had to say next.

Badim reached down and gently grabbed her hand. With his other hand he brushed away some hair from her cheek.
“A lot’s happened yesterday.” He added. Clare looked disappointed, knowing this was going to end badly. A lot did happen on the Exospheric Club. Clare slept with another man, Badim stared at other women, he got drunk, got attacked by Clare’s ex-lover Alin and stunned by security by mistake. A lot sure did happen. Badim smiled. “That day never happened.”

Clare’s eyes brightened and she let out her own sigh of relief. He leaned in, slowly pushing his hand from Clare’s cheek to her soft neck. They both tilted their heads the same way they had done countless other times. Their bodies adjusted to meet the contours of the other, their lips getting closer and closer to one another. Then a thought occurred to Badim. He breathed, and paused for a moment. He reached for his nightstand and grabbed a palm-sized device. He aimed it at the door and they both heard the satisfying gear shifting sound of it locking, after what happened, they couldn’t afford to be interrupted.
He turned back to Clare, her eyes instantly entrapping him. He couldn’t wait any longer, and just went forward in that moment.

“Kuat Drive Yard.” Clare said calmly into the com systems. “Killer’s Fate Two requesting permission to dock for repairs. No appointment has been made, we’re prepared to wait for our turn.” She added the last bit to answer the usual office question that was almost assuredly guarantied.
This was her first time being to Kuat. Lucas’ homeworld. Badim was running passive scans for the Leaper’s IFF signal, but was having no luck as of right now. It was a captivating mix of greens, blues and whites as they entered the planet’s orbit. The orbital Kuat Drive Yard ring a welcome contract to the planet below. An engineering marvel, a planet-wide space station built even before the time of the infamously first Death Star. Traffic was organized chaos over the ring, making Clare wonder what it took to be a flight control technician. If you’ve worked in Kuat, you’re perhaps given a position if you searched for the same occupation on another world.
The gentle hum of the Fate’s engines lulled her to close her eyes. The constant hum she had become used to over the months of space travel. The first few days may have been rough for her, now she wonders if she can sleep without it.

She glanced towards Badim at some slight movement, him having shaken his head again. Looks like they weren’t getting a free ride on repairs with Lucas.
Killer’s Fate, this is KDY Control.” An female officer replied after a delayed wait. “Permission has been granted. Please dock at Drydock Twelve, sub-dock thirty. A mechanic will meet you there to assess repairs.”

Clare nodded to Badim and he traveled along the transmitted coordinates. “Thank you, Control.” She confirmed and turned to Badim. “Looks like we’re in the off season for blast damage.”

Badim shrugged and leaned away from sensors. “Yeah well, don’t count on discounts.” He shrugged again. “No sign of the crew. We’ll have to try some other rendezvous after repairs. Coruscant maybe.”

“We can discuss our next jump after we’ve landed.” Clare waved off. Standing and heading to the infirmary to inform Resth and Jan. “Until then. Make sure we don’t get blasted by a star destroyer or anything.”
Badim snorted and concentrated on the controls.

Clare flew the Fate into position next to the Leaper and followed it into hyperspace. Resth had gone to the infirmary to make sure supplies were stocked, and what he'd need to get for the ship from their destination, for when Jan and he departed. She checked the destination once more as they entered. Dac. Within the year she'd known the crew, Sara and Anesho, Clare had been across the entire Galaxy. Denon, Nar Shaddaa, Naboo. Bespin. So many places, so many things have happened, good and bad.
She closed her eyes when Bespin had come to mind. She still wasn't quite over it. Within a year so much had changed. She was a clone of the original Clare, a woman similar but too different from who she is now. She had beaten herself up for being a clone, like it was her fault. The point was, it wasn't her fault, it was Candrog's. She still had to deal with it, however.
She'd made her mistakes, like any other person. But being a clone wasn't hers. Clare wouldn't have been here if she hadn't of been a clone. If the old Clare was still alive, she'd be double her age and wouldn't hesitate to kill Anesho.

Clare was elated to hear Anesho had made the decision to settle down, and she understood it might be a couple more months. Tseneca and the crew mattered to the pair; Clare would be happy to wait if it meant helping the crew.

Jan Nams walked into the cockpit, and took a seat, "Hey."
Clare had never really taken to Jan or Resth, at the start at least. They had really been helping with her therapy and treatments to prevent any further harm from the cloning process. Clare glanced at Jan and then back to the opaque viewport, "Hey."
"Did you hear from Badim? If we're in hyperspace I think you have," Jan deducted.

"Yes, Badim gave us coordinates, we're in route to Dac." So far, it was only Clare, part of the crew and Anesho who knew that Badim wasn't Anesho's real name so far, one of the things they had discovered together. Anesho preferred to be called Badim by others, since that's what they and himself have come to know him as. Clare still preferred calling him by his real name, though it had only started coming back up recently, after the Subject 001 matter.

Clare turned her seat towards Jan, "So, how is it going to work out? Are you going to be Jan Resth? Or is he going to be Resth Nams? He doesn't exactly have a last name, you know."

"His full name, not publicly known, is Resth Eerin. So, Jan Eerin." Jan smiled back.

"That has a nice ring to it, I'm happy for you two!" She said sincerely, "He was a little awkward in the proposal, wasn't he?"

"It was sweet, he tried to mimic the way we do things, he didn't know at the time he only needed to drop to his knee, not on all fours. You have to give him that much."

"Yeah," Clare said, standing up from her seat. "I'm going to turn in, it's going to be about a twenty-four hour trip, so I best get some rest. Have a good night."

Clare left the cockpit and went to the Captain's Quarters, and was finally able to get to sleep, after hours with her eyes open while she imagined what kind of life she and Anesho would have together.
