Yeah, I thought that was a bit pompous too.
Bungie...it's okay. I still love you, even if Microsoft's constantly pressuring you to 1-Up your own games. _________________ Kyle Fenris - Jedi Master, Gray Jedi

So is Starcraft II what we can be blaming right now for the slow progression of the main plotline? _________________ Morgan ZIM: Bounty Hunter, Gun for Hire, Freelance Peacekeeping Agent, Cybernetic Scoundrel, and all around disruptor of the normal order of things. |

That's probably more accurate, yes. Also, on the Chinese. And the American higher education system.

I thought this was a really good re-edit of the Vader's Redemption scene in RotJ.
He's got some other good edits, too. _________________ Kyle Fenris - Jedi Master, Gray Jedi

Omg, I love this. Could we do an RPG based on this ending? It makes so much sense. Plus, we wouldn't have Endor as important as it is. No Ewoks! YES! _________________ Captain of the Elusive, MC-90 Star Cruiser

But doesn't it make sense? Like how a galaxy wide Empire would be harder to destroy than with the Battle of Endor? In fact... didn't you create a whole RPG based on the idea? _________________ Captain of the Elusive, MC-90 Star Cruiser

Why yes, I do believe you're right. Although, as far as Lucas is concerned, Endor was the utter end of the Empire. There was no five years of mopping up until Thrawn... all of the bad guys died like when the Borg Queen had her face melted. _________________ Emperor Ams Jendob, Ruler of the Imperial Remnant

Um...you guys just found that out now? I thought that was common knowledge among SW fans.
At any rate, I'm glad they didn't go that route with the ending. Not because I'm a Han fan, but because it wouldn't make sense or fit with the type of ending ROTJ was supposed to have. It was supposed to be the closing act of the trilogy and end on a high note. Killing off one of the major characters would've been a cop out, especially since it would've been overshadowed by the destruction of the Empire. If you're going to kill a major character, you want to make it count, you know? I'm glad Lucas and the others involved in the making of the film nixed the idea and went with what we ultimately saw on screen.
And yes, folks, you heard it here first. I just agreed with something Lucas did. |

SWEET ZOMBIE JE-- O_O
RUN FOR THE HILLS! THE END IS NIGH! HAN HATH AGREEDTH WITH GEORGE LUCAS!
Anyway, if it had been handled properly... a heroic sacrifice—well, then I guess it would've overshadowed Vader. So... yeah. Keeping Han alive is worthwhile after all. _________________ Emperor Ams Jendob, Ruler of the Imperial Remnant

I don't agree, but ok. I think death is the ultimate closure (ex. Darth Vader, not so much Emperor Palpatine). _________________ Captain of the Elusive, MC-90 Star Cruiser

It would've been an unnecessary sacrifice. Killing off characters just to get a reaction out of the audience isn't the answer(see the current line of SW Del Rey books to see what I mean). We already had Vader and Yoda kick the bucket in ROTJ and if you think about it, Yoda's death is already somewhat overshadowed by what happens later on on the Death Star. Add Han to that mix and you start to lose the effectiveness of the sacrifice. Instead of making a good impression on the audience, you'll make them roll their eyes at how swiftly the characters are biting it(another example of this is X-Men 3...ugh) and it'll turn into a joke. |

Yoda wasn't a sacrifice. His was the passing of the mentor; to make it clear there was no one left for Luke to turn to. And I'd hardly say overshadowed. Vader's death and Yoda's death serve two very different purposes.

It depends on how it's pulled off. X-Men 3 apparently failed miserably.
Other movies and shows, though, can make the sudden death of a major character extremely poignant and relevant to the story. But again, the writers and directors have to have the skill and willingness to take the risk. Lucas and the yes-men he had for Jedi might possibly have had the skill then... but not the daring.
And it would've turned the victory more bittersweet than it should've been. You can't already be operating under "and everyone good lives happily ever after" for it to work. _________________ Emperor Ams Jendob, Ruler of the Imperial Remnant
