Shen watched as the Star Destroyer consumed The Trucemaker into it’s monstrous hold. He had heard stories of Leia Solo getting captured through this method, that there were procedures now in effect that would counter such an embarrassing capture. But it was flushed from everyone’s mind. They were useless anyways, their shields and engines were gone. They were lucky to not have been dust at this moment. But luck wasn’t on their side, he had also heard stories of how harsh Kessel was, and wondered if Zend had a planet like that wherever she had gone.

No one boarded, not yet at least. Guards, soldiers naval officers and pilots stood at every entry point, waiting for the Empire to board. Tense moments passed, waiting for the sonic boom of breaching charges ring throughout the ship. He caught a glimpse at Janice, fear over her face as she stared back at him, pondering his own fearful face as well.
He turned to Gavin, his back straightened and full of courage. Both hands locked behind his back, his fingers gripped around a blaster behind him.

Shen continued to wait, hearing nothing but the battle that raged outside. He turned back to Janice, her pursed lips attracted him. They both knew death was coming to them, and they both knew about the innocent flirting and their attraction to one another. Shen didn’t let hesitation get in the way this time and paced forward as Janice rushed to meet him. It might have been fear induced, but they knew they felt for each other, kissing passionately as though they had done it a thousand times before. Their lips pressed to one another softly, flowing with sorrow that either of them, if not both were going to be dead within the next half-hour.

They paused, looking into each other’s eyes as they panted from their action. Janice wrapped her arms around Shen and pressed her face to his chest, feeling as painful as Shen did with what was going to happen. Gavin asserted himself with a brief grunt to snap the two back into their situation, just as the breaching charges sounded.

Brand watched as Captain Ferris' old Kedalbe battleship went up in flames. He had never understood how Ferris had made High Command give him funding for that old relic and its outdated main weapon, but now it was all academic anyway.

What troubled him far more were the small flashes all around the dying Mandalorian-built warship.
"They're slaughtering the escape pods! I want that recorded, saved with double-backup and transmitted to all our ships immediately! Show them the way of the Empire!" Brand was both feeling chilled and engaged, how could they do such a thing?

But he had more immediate concerns. The Expeditionary Battle Group was approaching the Imperial forces, some of which were turning to face them. All of the enemy Star Destroyers were turning around and dipping their bows to face Brand and his forces with their full firepower. Brand laughed.
"Look, sir, the oldest Imperial trick in the book!" His XO said, also chuckling.
"You know the drill, Captain, signal the others!" They knew just how to handle this.

While serving in the NR-Imperial war Brand had probably faced bow-dipping Imperial Star Destroyers two dozen times. It was the favourite and least creative tactic of the Imperial captains, seeking to maximise the frontal firepower of their ships by making all their main batteries able to fire at targets in front of them. Granted, the full firepower of one Star Destroyer was awesome, and that of several Star Destroyers even more awesome, but not the invincible wall of death the Imperials liked to think.

Having faced them so many times Brand knew a weakness in the tactic: the shield centre. An Imperial Star Destroyer's deflector shield was projected from its bridge tower and was elliptic, having a constant shape and not moving when the Star Destroyer was dipping its bow. KDY designers had deliberately made the deflector shield large enough to enable the ship to dip its bow without the front coming outside the shield, but that had opened a weak point: the centre line of the oval shield was now located on the same plane as the main superstructure.

Simple mathematics stipulated that an arbitrary section of the centre line of the shield have a considerably smaller surface area than an arbitrary section of the curved area, which meant far more energy could be focused at the centre line. The same feature which made the equator of a planet hotter than the rest would now make the Star Destroyers burn. Normally it would be useless because the centre line ran along the unimportant bow of the Star Destroyer, but because of the Star Destroyer's slanted angle it was now right where hitting it could hurt quite a lot.
It was by no means a miracle tactic. You still had to brave the full firepower of an Imperial Star Destroyer, but if you could get enough shots through at its central superstructure the enemy ship would be thrown into disarray as its shields were failing. And the modern targeting equipment of Brand's newly refitted fleet was more than up to the task.

Brand pointed at the tactical map, "concentrate fire on those three SD's, you know where to shoot! And send out the gunships Leaper and Chivalrous and three wings of bombers with full escort, I want them to flank the SD's and blow out their reactors from behind!"

As the fighters and bombers began streaming out of the various hangars Brand noticed the NR defenders had started clumping around the shipyards. The yards had to be destroyed! He might be called a defeatist by some, but he had a hunch that this could not be won. And his hunches, whether positive or negative, were usually right. And beside hunches, especially with the demise of the Kedable, numbers were not exactly with the New Republic either.
"Tell the Fourth to stop messing around and scuttle those shipyards! The Z-Imps will be all over them within minutes! I want everyone ready to get out as soon as we punch a hole in the Z-Imp lines!"

And then the exchange of fire began. The greatest orgy of destruction in twenty years of galactic history had just started.

I could see it as an interesting plotline that Brand became the scapegoat of the defeat for his "defeatist" attitude almost from the beginning and encountering some political trouble for it! Being genre savvy is not always only a blessing :P

Congratulations, Fyyar. You have just made Alister's day to a point :p

This time it was Alister who was laughing. He didn't look to see who was watching the display nor did he care. The battle had finally gotten interesting. The rebels had a veteran with them! Only someone who had faced a Star Destroyer numerous times would know them well enough to take advantage of the slight weakness in the shield. It wasn't a battle turning piece of information, but it was enough to make Alister retract his bow maneuver.

"Very interesting," Alister said.

Then he noticed a group of small dots headed for them, and his good mood died down again.

"Bombers? You show excellent knowledge of battle and you decide to send bombers?" Alister said to the enemy commander. Though he would not hear it.

Some of the crew, likely Krauss' men, looked at Alister like he was starting to go as mad as Krauss herself.

"Order the Glory and any other Star Destroyers the Commander hasn't retasked to use their smaller beam lasers to act as a makeshift point defense system to eliminate those bombers. Unless our shields fall within the next thirty seconds, they won't even be considered a nuisance."

At least his disgust at using fighter sized ships on caps is well founded :p

Ferris watched as fighters and ships approached The Infinity, watching three modified Dreadnaughts close in on him. His tactic for playing dead wasn’t fooling them, and the Imperials were smarter than he first thought. He ordered Romny to cancel his previous order and open fire on the ships. Lances of light soared from the once dead starship, impacting on a single Dreadnaught. After a moment of concentrated fire, it buckled under the weight of the capital ship and detonated, taking a squadron of fighters with it.
“Unlock Hammerhead Missile locks A1 through A7 and fire with another volley of turbolaser fire on the next Dreadnaught.”

“Aye.”

Ferris watched as the escape pods he had launched moments ago were wiped away, he was happy that his men and women weren’t onboard or abandoning ship, they’d be dead anyways from the onslaught of the Empire. Something clicked in his head, “What’s the status of our smaller MAC Cannons?” Ferris asked, remembered that his main weapon wasn’t the only gauss weapon aboard. He did have five others, two on either side of the ship and another just below the bridge.
“Port and bridge Cannons destroyed, sir. Starboard operating at half strength.”
The mini-MACs weren’t as powerful as the destroyed, kilometer long rail gun below him. But they could be just enough to keep his men alive until someone dealt with the Interdictor ships. Though at half strength, it would barely cause damage at all.
“Unlock Hammerhead Missile locks B1 through C7 as well, and fire everything we have at them.”

“Targeting for the MACs were destroyed with our main weapon.”

“Aim down the sights the old fashion way, Lieutenant.” Ferris ordered.

“Aye.”

Ferris watched as his orders were carried out, the MAC cannons fired with smoke and light as all his weapons fired on the dreadnaughts. Detonating them all with sustained fire. A moment of triumph washed over the entire crew as they watched them burn and smolder. It didn’t last.

“Sir, boarders have been detected on all decks! The dreadnaughts were a distraction!”

“All hands,” Ferris spoke, gripping a blaster that was holstered to his leg, “Take arms.”

L.E.N. and Admiral Fyyar:
L.E.N. and everyone else, Huey and Joshua are taking part in this battle now, along with our PNPCs Duncan, Clyde and Nora. They‘re only limited to The Infinity.
Fyyar, CMAC doesn't want the shipyards to be damaged or severely damaged, just a heads up for you. So we're gonna ignore that order ;) LOL

There was very little in the way of good news for Commodore Tira Gaains to celebrate as her ships closed in on the Bilbringi shipyards. They had successfully destroyed one of the smaller Zend ships, and the Rangers had made some of the fighters that had gotten close enough to be fired upon regret their mistake, but in the grand scheme of things it was like releasing air into space.

The bad news, meanwhile, continued to pour in. Darklighter had been captured, Zend’s fleet was destroying escape pods, and there was nothing she could do about either. They had recovered a couple of the Infinity’s escape pod’s before they had moved out of range, but the rest were left to their fate.

“We can’t help them.” She said, ordering her Task Force to continue towards the shipyards rather than stay back and aid those unable to help themselves.
“They’re getting slaughtered out there!” Horn replied.
“We do not have the resources to divert to saving them, Captain! Zend is tearing our fleet apart, and saving them will do nothing to keep us from loosing this battle. All we can do is remember their sacrifice.”

As she realized the words coming out of her mouth, she pushed back the anger towards the situation.

Loosing this battle.

She hated to admit it, but maybe Brand was right. The New Republic had done nothing but get it’s collective @** handed to it since the self-proclaimed heirs to the Empire had closed in. At this rate, even if they did get out word about their situation, she couldn’t help but wonder if there’d even be a Fourth Fleet left for them to reinforce.

“How far away are our fighters from Brand’s position yet?” She asked.
“They’re coming around, but it’ll be at least a couple minutes yet.”
“Brand’s in the best position possible to take out the Interdictors. Ask him what he needs to take them out, and defer command to him of any ship he needs to do it.”

And then came the deal breaker.

“Ma’am, two ships I can’t identify are closing in. They’ve opened fire on the Osiris
“They’re taking heavy damage. Some kind of beam weaponry. Their shields won’t last long!”

”Frak it all.”

“Are we close enough to target the shipyards with our Tractor Beams?” She asked.
“Almost.”
“Once we are, bring us around to bring as many weapons as we can on those ships, pick one, and blow it to pieces. I want everything. Turbolasers, Ion Cannons, Proton Torpedoes, the works! Divert all power from the engines to the Tractor Beams, pull both the Negotiator and Osiris in backwards, and divert the bulk of our shields to front. Make them take extra care if they don’t want to risk hitting the shipyards.”
“Aren’t we protecting the shipyards, Ma’am?”

There was hesitation in her voice as she prepared her response.

“No. Now, we’re protecting the people inside them. Signal the shipyards, give them the Admiral’s orders to scuttle and tell them to evacuate.”

She had no idea what kind of power the beam weapons sported, nor did she have any idea how to deal with them. It was the last reveal that brought her around to seeing what Brand had seen. This battle could not be won. And while the shipyards could be rebuilt, there was no telling how much damage Zend would do if she had their production capabilities at her command. No reason remained for her to delay following his orders.

The best they could do now, assuming Zend had come to capture, was to deny them their prize and provide information on the battle for the New Republic so that the next battle, or for that matter, the war, wouldn't go as badly.

“Tell the Heroes of Tatooine dock at the safest possible point and take on as many evacuees as they can, then pull away and jump to hyperspace ASAP. The Voyager is to provide them with what cover fire they can. If there any information in their computers worth saving, have it downloaded to the Tatooine, then scrub the rest. Leave nothing for the Zend to find.”

She would do what she could to destroy the shipyards themselves, but there was no way of telling whether she’d be able to scuttle them before Zend’s forces got aboard. Even if she couldn’t deny them resources, she could deny them information.

“Have the shipyards close off sections as they empty out and aren’t needed for mobility, then open fire. Any ships with hyperdrives and engines are to launch, get as far away as possible, and follow the Tatooine out when hyperspace becomes and option. Any ships that don’t have hyperdrives are to be set to self-destruct. Echo and Phaser squadrons are to destroy any ships without the ability to do either.”

Yes, I know, I’m going along with Brand’s orders, but I’ve yet to have anything happen where they’re successful, so there’s still room for failure.

Huey Garza and Joshua Holloway can post the boarding and the loss of the Infinity at any time, or specifically, in the vessel's designated thread. The battle can continue into the fifth round, relatively unaffected.

Krauss could tell the numbers were dwindling. The New Republic had pressed and pressed, when they should have long retreated. With as many battlecruisers as she had with her, they would be vaporized in minutes. Taking the crucial time to evacuate left over shipyard personnel would be a foolish mistake, but here they were, attempting such a feat. Noble hearts would be spilled open for all to see. Krauss cracked, interested to see the faces of those who defined the forces sent. Little survived the cut-throat tactics of Captain Malla'z of the Demon of the Maw.

They expected the shipyards would be damaged in the New Republic retreat, but weapon signatures indicated they might destroy the entire yard. As the Glory shifted to deal with the incoming bombers, Krauss was pleased to find the majority of their missiles had met an easy end by the Firebreak-class perched at their backs. A quick show of fireworks, and a logical assumption, meant the NR fish captain had sent them to route out their 'vulnerable' shield generators. Years of modifications and he thought the old weaknesses still applied...

Krauss let a smirk flash. Even as Mako became almost as crazed as herself, it was a fool's mission. His entire force of starfighters sent around the back, had been where the Scythes were in place. She had them waiting, protected from the shipyard-engagement and the sudden advance of the Calamari cruisers. But here, they were gods against the feeble ant-sized starfighters. Beam weaponry from the underbellies of the ISDs, the Scythes and especially the Firebreaks slaughtered them. Not a single starfighter managed to escape the laser sea unleashed upon them.

Near the yards, the Zaro and the Demon of the Maw had begun its rampage against a section of the shield grid. Dragoons parted from the Glory, now in full speed towards the Bilbringi shipyards. She turned her attention back to the nearest Calamari cruiser. Why they attempted to push through, was surprising at best. "Idiots." She hissed, though they were closer than ever. The beam weapons launched, all seven Imperial Star Destroyers now focused on the nearest cruiser. The shields couldn't take take this, not for long.

Her eyes watered, not daring to blink, fearing that she would miss what would take place. With the pinpoint accuracy of their beams, the shields faltered. It was enough for their missiles to snake through, and beams to unleash against the vessel's bare hull. It tore open, the insides gushing out into space, before the engine room had been penetrated. In a tremendous display, the Mon Calamari ship buckled and exploded in two separate pieces. The Glory remained defiant, as the Revenge-class dreadnought, the Austere broke formation. As the ISDs maintained the line, Harrison would force the Rebels into retreat.

"Vaporize the smaller support vessels, don't let any through. Send the remaining Dragoon cruisers to the shipyards. Launch the Dragoon's Teeth as soon as the shields have been breached." Krauss ordered, looking at the holoscreen, only to watch half-built or slightly repaired ships detach and attempt to make a run through the asteroid fields. True Empire bombers easily caught up to them, bringing them to their final halt. Krauss wasn't interested in the laser fodder, but watched as the ISD Zaro engaged the parked Ranger-class. The second ISD, Demon of the Maw, moved to counter the Bothan Assault cruiser, with the assistance of four Dragoons and a Firebreak. It wouldn't be able to hold the ground.

Still the New Republic Calamari pressed, hoping to run their blockade of the shipyards. "Send two thirds of the remaining starfighters to assist in the shipyards, order them to specifically target Fourth Fleet vessels. The Firebreaks should make quick work of their free squadrons... " She thought aloud. The carrier would be forced to fleet, completely vulnerable to the advancing war vessels. And as soon as it made the jump to hyperspace, the left over starfighter pilots would be hunted down and either captured, tortured for information, or killed. Krauss returned her attention back to the Fish, "All ships, lock onto the largest MC Cruiser," It looked as though it was the command vessel, "And fire."

I think its time to wrap this battle up. True Empire numbers and technology are too great for it to continue without significant losses on the Rebel side.

If you want your fleet to survive, Brand, turn around. :P You're staring down the barrels of a Revenge-class, seven ISDs, plus a dozen made up of Scythes and Dragoon cruisers. I'm not sure how you've survived this long. :P

The shipyards are being saved by the Demon of the Maw and the Zaro (plus their sister/backup ships). The Interdictors are in the middle of the fight. Between the Calamari/ISD-line and the shipyards. I would advise not to engage them.

I do want to say this has been one of my favorite engagements, and Tira and Brand, you have fought one hell of a fight. I actually want to face off in a battle not pre-determined. It would be fun.

Here they were. Sitting in a bridge with their weapons pointed towards the bridge entrance. Hearing cutting and grinding as a boarding craft landed and began to gut and gore it’s way inside. Ferris looked at each of his men and women who were on the bridge, fear adorning their faces, sulfur from the cutting tools bellowing their way into the room, cringing everyone’s bodies. He looked to Romny, not fearful at all. He had actually seen combat with the Empire during the previous war, but doubt was within his eyes.

Ferris turned and knew what he had to do. He began to type a series of commands into the ship’s computer, instructing the utter destruction of The Infinity. Once the countdown initiated, it gave Ferris a slow, thought filled minute to observe the battle. Lances of light, fire and metal soared and exploded throughout the area of space. It was the spark of a new war, new bloodshed. Time was moving faster than he had thought, and thirty seconds had already passed. He turned to the bridge crew, and said, “It’s been an honor and a privilege serving with you all.”

They turned to face and salute him, knowing the only option as well was their own death. Brutal interrogations would bring vital, important information about the New Republic up and into the hands of the Empire. They all knew they couldn’t allow that. Just after their crisp arms snapped to their sides, the blast-door burst open with an explosion, and dozens, if not ten dozen grenades pinged into the room and detonated with loud flashes and bursts of blue lighting. Stun Grenades. Everyone fell to the floor, Ferris watching as a storm trooper rushed forward from the smoke filled hallway and to the computer. Quickly using a tool Ferris had never seen before to deactivate the self-destruct sequence.

“The ship is secure, Commander Krauss,” he said into his helmet, then turning down to Ferris’ stunned eyes, “What do you want us to do with the crew?”

After a pause and a silent order, the man spoke again, to his soldiers this time, “Load everyone up into the cargo bay and knock them out with Melancholy 13C. That’ll hold them until we get to Eriga Nu.”

The remaining living Infinity crewmembers have been taken captive and will be taken to the prison world of Eriga Nu.
Shen Velez and Jonathan Ferris have been captured, it‘s also self-explanatory, so I won‘t be posting wit them until they get to Eriga Nu.

It's lovely to be back to RP'ing again, even with pre-determined battles ;)
Oh, we most certainly shall face off again, I'll make sure of that!

Brand was feeling a bit queasy. Zend's forces were pulling out new gadgets all the time, invalidating both NR tactics and equipment at a horrifying pace. This was not only a losing battle, this was a rout in the making. The bomber strike had failed spectacularly, as had the attempt to break the blockade, for reasons that would be closely analysed after the battle. For now Brand realised it was his most pressing duty to make sure there was an "after the battle" for any of them.

They were rapidly approaching the enemy battle line and had already lost the Mon Cal Cruiser Benevolence, and were they to continue into the fray all would be lost.
"Captain, instruct the other ships to prepare for turning around and hyperjump to Point Bantha."
Wellsprun, a loyal serviceman for over thirty years, did not even blink. He saw things as clearly as Brand did in this regard. He began shouting orders to the rest of the bridge crew and soon the big ships were stopping.

Then fire began raining down on the Renown. Having recognised her as the obvious flagship the Z-Imperial warships were giving her all they had, and the Mon Cal Battlecruiser was shaking from the multiple impacts of energy. But they would not go down so easily. The Renown had been designed for exactly such slugging matches, and had survived encounters with Super Star Destroyers of several classes and sizes. She and Brand had even faced the Arquebusier herself in a one-on-one engagement while defending a refugee convoy. And thanks to Brand's insistence, even in the twenty years of absence of any kind of enemy Super Star Destroyer, the old Mon Cal girl still was every bit as tough as back then. She would make it out of this as well.

Brand looked at the needle-shaped warships located between the main Imperial force and the shipyards, and yelled, "tell all their ships to target the Interdictors behind the Z-Imp battle line and hold their fire until my signal. Tell the Fourth to prepare for emergency jump to Point Bantha as well!"
Still being pounded mercilessly by the Zend fleet, the Expeditionary Battle Group turned around and for a moment had its full broadside available for striking. Even the partially shielded battle line could not protect fragile heavy cruisers such as the Immobilizer 418 from a full broadside from 7 capital ships.

"Fire!"

The immense outpouring of energy flew past the enemy Star Destroyers and slammed right into the Interdictors' shields, quickly bringing them down. At the same time the heavy cruiser Gallant crumbled from the Z-Imperial barrage.
There was no time to mourn the loss. With the Interdictors having to shift their power to regenerate their shields, the interdiction field dropped for a moment, and this was their only chance.

"Engage Hyperdrives!"
Brand was slammed down back into his commander's chair as the asteroids and debris disappeared and the stars were drawn out into lines, and he exhaled. Though relieved, there was not exactly much to be relaxed about. A Mon Cal and a heavy cruiser and an appalling number of fightercraft destroyed were the least of his concerns, with a major shipyard world and possibly its entire defence force lost. And he would not even begin to think about the political ramifications.

Ever the optimist, Brand was however happy he had not let down his guard these past twenty years. Both the New Republic and he had lost much in this battle, it had been an utter catastrophe, but at least he had retained his dignity and self-respect. He had given those Z-Imps the best he could under the circumstances, and Brand was sure he would give them even more next time. And there would be a next time.

I hope it's okay I got out like this, and I leave it ambiguous whether Gaains got out or not. And I believe Brand can look forward to the biggest fight of all with NR High Command back at Coruscant. ;)

The side of the Negotiator lit up like a neon sign as it unleashed everything it could upon it’s attackers. The shots went in focused upon a single target, and showing that the older ship still had some fight left in it, the weapons successfully penetrated the shielding of the first craft and lit up it’s side, beginning to crack the hull like the egg it was vaguely shaped like. The ship began to drift, it’s weapons loosing their accuracy and soon shutting down all together.

The crew had no time to celebrate their small victory, however. As Gaains turned her attention back to the tactical hologram display, she saw the Osiris blink out entirely, signaling that the ship was lost. Nowhere else she looked amongst the signs of battle was there any good news to be found.

“Where are the fighters?” She asked, not seeing any sign of them anywhere.
“Gone.”
“Gone?” She asked. That couldn’t possibly be right. “How do five squadrons disappear that quickly?”
“Reports came in before we lost them. More beam weaponry. They didn’t stand a chance.”
“Commodore, we have more ships closing in fast.”
“I see them.”

It wasn’t just any ships. They were Star Destroyers. She could hold out hope that her ship could fight off the second egg-ship, but even that wasn’t a long shot. An ISD, or rather, a ZSD, was suicide.

“Turn us around!” She ordered, doing her best to remain calm. “Full retreat! Tell the Tatooine and Voyager to get out of there. And order Phaser and Echo squadrons to abandon the shipyards and provide cover to whatever’s left of the retreating Bilbringi craft.”

The crew of the Bothan Assault Cruiser turned the ship around as fast as they could, but even with the aid of the tractor beams, an 800 meter ship could only maneuver so quickly. Another hit shook the ship again, this time nearly knocking the Twi’lek off her feet.

“They got through our shields!” An officer reported. “The hangar bay is shot!”
“All power to engines and shields!” she ordered.

She again turned around to look out the command viewport as the Negotiator came about, and watched as she saw the distinct shape of the Voyager go up in flames and began to drift in a collision course for the shipyard superstructure. The Tatooine fortunately, was more in tact. It shows signs of damage, including an indication that it had detached from the shipyards in a less than safe manner. But it hadn’t been lost yet.

“What’s their status?” Gaains asked.
“They didn’t have time to get much. Captain Wilkox reports they got what they could. They think they retrieved the most important information. A couple volunteers stayed behind to help scrub the system. There shouldn’t be anything for the Empire to find.”

She took it as the bit of good news she needed. They needed something to grab on to as a sign of hope, and there was little to be found anywhere.

“The interdiction field is still up.” Captain Horn reported. “Where are we suppose to run to?”

Gaains wasn’t sure. The Negotiator’s more powerful engines were allowing it to slowly pull away from Zend’s forces, but it didn’t make a sith of difference if they couldn’t jump to hyperspace.

“Just keep flying.” She said, lacking any other possible orders of substance.

“Ma’am, Admiral Brand is giving a general order to the Fourth Fleet. He wants us to prepare to jump to Point Bantha!”

Tira couldn’t help but let loose a large sigh of relief as the sign of escape came. She didn’t know if Brand could get them out of here for certain, but she didn’t care. If there was an opening for escape, she was more than happy to reach for it.

Thank you, Admiral.”
“Do it.” She ordered. “And make sure everyone in our fleet hears those orders! I want us scarce the second that field…”

The ship shook again from another hit, and this time their ears were met by the momentary sound of a warning klaxon.

“They got through again! Our main engines are offline! We are running on maneuvering thrusters only!”
“Is the hyperdrive still operational?!” Gaains asked.
“Main hyperdrive is offline! Secondary hyperdrive is still operational.”
“Get those coordinates ready and prepare to jump ASAP!” she ordered.
“Commodore, can we safely jump in this condition?” Horn asked.
“I don’t care. We jump or we die anyway!”

The tension grew thick enough to cut as the second ticked by. They all waited for the interdiction signal to end, and time moved along at pace so slow it made a Hutts causal slither look like the speed of A-Wing.

Come on, Admiral…”

“Interdiction field is down!”
“Jump! Now! Do it!” She heard Captain Horn order, pre-empting her. Normally, the action would have upset her, but under the circumstances, she was more than willing to ignore it.

Outside, they could see the imagery of other New Republic ships as they exited the system, each one filling her with a tiny bit of fear that the Negotiator just might not be able to jump to hyperspace after all. While this spanned only the length of a few seconds, she had almost prepared herself to turn the ship back around and fight to the bitter end when the streaks of light signaling a successful jump to hyperspace surrounded the front viewport.

For a full minute, no one on board the bridge moved, either hardly willing to believe they had narrowly avoided death or trying to come to terms with the realization of just what Admiral Zend’s reappearance meant for the second time. Especially in light of how the most powerful navy in the known galaxy had just been sent into retreat with its tail between its legs.

“Get me everything.” Tira said as she slowly allowed herself to come down to the ships deck and lean her back up against the tactical hologram generator. It was an action that was unprofessional, especially for someone of her rank to do on the command deck, and she realized herself that it was an act that had she witnessed another officer doing, she would have given them a quick reprimand.

But no one was paying much attention to that right now. Everyone else was too busy with post-battle reports. Damage control, reporting in, and finding a way to get the primary hyperdrive back online so they would arrive at their destination in time to avoid being listed as MIA.

“Everything what?” Horn asked from the other side of the display.
“All the data we collected from that battle. I want to be able to examine each and every recording from that fight we have. I want to tear them apart, examine their insides, and ensure that everything that possibly can be learned from that battle is learned. And then, I want any information you can get me on Zend.”
“There’s going to be a lot of data.” The Captain replied.
“Until the primary hyperdrive is fixed, we have a lot of time to spare.”

Yep, she got out, though not nearly as cleanly. And now, she’s got more work to do in preparation for whatever comes next.

Anyway, shame that battle had to be pre-determined. It was fun while it lasted, but I can only imagine how much more fun it would have been if we had more freedom to determine the actual outcome. Oh well. Next time, I suppose.

Alister watched as their enemies made the jump to hyperspace. He closed his eyes and began his calming down process. With the push of a button he shut down the holographic display.

"Take us closer to the shipyards and deploy our troops to help take them. Recall our fighters and get them refueled and repaired. Then I want them right back out patrolling the area. Understood, Captain?" Alister said to the young man.

"Aye, sir!" with a salute, Leon left to carry out his orders.

Alister walked up next to Commander Krauss. Watching the spectacle of the true Imperial victory. "I have to admit. They put up one hell of a fight against what they knew was a losing battle," Alister said to her, catching a barely noticeable nod. "They would probably still be dying were it not for your interdiction ploy." Alister leaned in closer to whisper something in her ear, "Thrawn would be proud. I think."

That should be Alister's last post in this. However, I think it be fitting for Alex to make the last post in this battle thread.

Harrison watched as the cowardly rebels retreated from the system, leaving the prize Zend desired in their hands. The shipyards would prove to be a useful asset to The True Empire, a repair and starship construction station for the minimal losses Harrison could foresee in the Empire’s future. They had sustained minimal losses during this battle, their overwhelming might, even with the shield crippling Mass drivers that defied them, left the battle devoid and lifeless in little more than half and hour. A tremendous victory for the Grand Admiral.

Harrison looked at what Republic ships remained, several captured Corellian vessels, tens of escape pods filled with rebels, and the prized Keldabe Battleship. It was left fairly intact, and with significant modifications and improvement by The True Empire, the Infinity will become an infinite asset to the Zend’s forces. The mass driver alone taking down a quarter of The Austere’s shields, several times stronger than a standard ISD-II, with a quick three-round burst, while destroying a defecting ISD and three advancing Dragoons would prove to be a useful, if not irony filled asset to Zend.

He turned to Kiandra, thought rippling through her face, “I am sorry,” Harrison said to her, “I understand how much you wanted rebel blood on your hands after so many years. But you are more useful to me alive than dead on that once defiant stardock.”

Kiandra turned her attention away from the drifting debris and to the Admiral, “I will have blood on my hands at some point in this new war. I have waited twenty years, I can wait a few more days.”

This was fun, and my first use of a single-sided battle system. I will thoroughly enjoy the next time we face off :D

The Austere will take on the prisoners of both The Infinity and The Trucemaker to Eriga Nu, Alex, if you want to have Selena order Harrison to do so and come onboard I wouldn’t hesitate to allow it :D

The New Republic had been forced into a retreat, and with the ruse of the Interdictor field, she allowed the bigger fish to return to their pathetic ponds across the galaxy. Let them carry the footage of their awesome might, let them squabble and debate which planets were must-haves and those that could be sacrificed. Krauss ordered the Interdiction fields back up, deciding it was best to hold a large buffer from possible inbound Rebel reinforcements. The Interdictors parted ways, one to each far side of the system, leaving a massive perimeter. She enjoyed the vacancy left by the Rebel war vessels, taking the compliment Admiral Mako had whispered to heart. "Thank you, Admiral. Your men did extremely well, under the circumstances. I hereby stand relieved of immediate command of the Imperial Star Destroyer Glory."

The Admiral and his men saluted, "I will have your shuttle prepared. Which ship shall I alert?" The officers she had brought with her, removed themselves from key battlestations, thus allowing Mako's own personnel to resume their places. "The Shipyards. I wish to make contact with the Grand Admiral from the Command Deck of the Bilbringi Yards." Her boots parted, and she took the shortest route to the hangar bay. Her men followed, precisely in tight formation. Mako had offered to escort her, but she knew the way, and allowed the older man to breathe in the scent of victory. He had long waited for this day, let him bask in it.

Her shuttle lifted off as soon as she was aboard, and glided through the asteroid field. It was a mess, starfighter fragments from both sides. A small Republic freighter had attempted to make the jump to hyperspace, but both of its engines were down. Krauss watched as Dragon Teeth penetrated the hull, imagining the horror of the crew when Imperial droids landed inside. They were fierce, and emotionless. They would get the job done, without remorse or fear. Another ship, the identified as the Voyager was afloat, and had nearly wrecked into the shipyards, had the Demon of the Maw not tractored it.

The shuttle gracefully landed inside the shipyards, her boots hitting the Rebel metallic alloy. She breathed in the scent, smoke and blaster fire remained raw in the air. A squad of ZD-2 Imperial battle droids accompanied her, in addition to her black ops troops. She crossed the long corridors, bodies of fallen rebels still strewn about, when she happened upon one still breathing. A ZD-2 approached, its blaster pivoting to eliminate him, when she held out her hand.

Krauss lowered herself, putting her face at eye level with the bleeding rebel. He was a man, not yet in his thirties, his body at a minimal fitness physique, probably a techie or a computer analyst. His hands were soft, moist from the stream of sweat, but bore a ring. "Wh-who are you?" She unclipped his helmet, it looked as though he had been rushing to a hangar full of starfighters, but the dragoon teeth were too quick for the last reserve fighters. Te nearby bodies suggested the last wing had never launched, not that these amateurs would've made a huge difference.

"My name is Selena." Krauss whispered, dabbing his head with a piece of cloth. She wiped the blood off his lips, and combed his hair to the side. She removed his blaster, handing it off to one of her troopers, instead, wrapping the cloth to cover the wound. "I was sent to take these shipyards." She whispered, "We will use them to fuel and rebuild our ships. And our ships will be used to take or burn your homes. Officer Dallard, I'm going to locate your family and send them to work camps." The man cried out, but she put a finger to his lips, "Humans never last the first month, especially the children."

She pulled a blaster from her side and set the nuzzle near his stomach. "I'll be sure to tell your wife you sent me. It'll be the last thing she hears." The look in his eyes were priceless, before she pulled the trigger. They were frozen in that rage, that moment of absolute hatred. Krauss looked at the nearest ZD-2, "Clean this up, and remove the bodies. Incinerate them." She continued the long pace, and finally, she found the command center. It was damaged, but not beyond repair. In fact, the engineers would've wanted to refit and add their own technology, the bare wires and system displays would make the work that much easier.

A ZD-2 dropped a holo padd, and accessed a private channel to the forces accumulated in Muunilinst Sector. Wiping the blood spatter from her uniform, Krauss stepped onto the plate, and started. "Grand Admiral, I am pleased to inform you... Bilbringi is now apart of the True Empire." And she bowed, trembling at the exciting news she presented to her leader...
