After two weeks of waiting, the crew of the Infinity and Jonathan Ferris, finally stepped aboard their newly re-augmented starship. Jones Romny walked next to Ferris, with a large grin on his face. They would have had to wait longer, if the process of disarmament had only begun two days before Jonathan requested reintegration into the New Republic. The halls of the Keldabe Battleship was full of traffic, as new recruits came onboard and old crewmates found their stations.
“It’s good to be back, Sir.” Romny said as he wiggled past a pair of recruits, “Walking these halls reminds me of the old days. Even though those might not have been so good, there were memories we survived all the same.”
Ferris nodded, frankly, he was exhausted, filing paper work, recruiting new crewmembers to replace nearly half the crew that didn‘t agree to returning to service… And trying to find a fleet formation that would allow the Infinity within it’s ranks. Luckily, his previous service record had fallen on the ears of the famed Gavin Darklighter, and as soon as the final upgrades were installed on the ship, the Infinity would enter hyperspace and enter formation within the Fourth Fleet.
Ferris bumped into a Marine Sergeant, “Sorry,” Ferris said, but when the Sergeant turned, Ferris recognized him, “Huey Garza?”
“Sir-Captain Ferris, SIR!” Huey said as he recognized Ferris’ own face, he straightened his body up and saluted him, “It’s a pleasure-an honor to be under your command again, Sir!”
Ferris returned the salute and replied, “And I, you. At Ease.”
Garza turned and began to continue down the hall in the direction he was going when he turned his head and said, “Remind me to get you a drink in the Mess-Hall next time we’re both in there.”
“I’ll take you up on that after some service.”
“Aye!” Garza yelled back as he continued down the hall.

Ferris shook his head in enjoyment and reminisced about how loyal Garza was to him. His squad was a member short, loosing one just shortly before the cease-fire between the Republic and the Imperial Remnant, so Ferris had ordered a new recruit to join Garza’s three-man squad and bolster it to a full four-man team. Ferris’ comlink beeped and a man spoke to him, “Captain Ferris, this is the Chief Engineer, Glen Serrano, I have a status update for you…”
“Go ahead Mister Serrano.” Ferris said as he stopped in the hallway.
“All systems are green and we’re ready for launch as soon as you arrive to the Bridge and the remains of the drydock crew exit. With the new upgrades they‘ve install on the ship in the past two weeks, we can hold to almost anything, Sir.”

“Good to hear, have your engineering team standby for departure.”
“Aye.”

Ferris and Romny entered the final turbolift that would take them to the bridge. The doors hissed shut as fast about as they opened. The ride up to the bridge was silent, nothing was said between Romny and Ferris on the way up. Anxiety perhaps, Ferris didn’t know for sure. All he knew, was that his heart was pumping, ready to command again.
The turbolift door’s hissed open and Ferris’ eye squinted with the drydock lights shining through the bridge‘s duraglass. The bridge crew looked towards Ferris and Romny and smiled. They stood and saluted their Commanding Officers. Romny and Ferris both returned the salute and Ferris replied, “At ease.”
With that, in the next couple minutes, the ship detached from the drydock, exited the Gravity Well that surrounded Coruscant and entered Hyperspace towards the Inner Rim.

“Coming out of hyperspace now at the Tanaab System, Captain.” Romny announced.
Ferris stood at attention at the front of the bridge as he stared into the swirling blue of hyperspace, the stars slowly went from their long streaks back to their dotted shapes as the blue around the ship vanished almost instantly and Jonathan captured an amazing glimpse of the Fourth Fleet. Twenty-nine ships fell into around a single, small ship. The Trucemaker. Admiral Darklighter’s CR-90 Flagship.
“Transmission from the fleet, Sir.”
“Patch it through.” Ferris replied, not taking his eyes off the fleet he now belonged to.

“Captain Ferris of the Keldabe-class Battleship, Infinity,” A young, disciplined man said, “Admiral Gavin Darklighter would like to speak to you as soon as you are able.”

“Aye,” Ferris replied, “As soon as we fall into formation I will make for a shuttle.”

The man acknowledged and keyed the microphone off. Jonathan turned to Romny and said, “Put us into any open slot in the formation, Lieutenant. Have a pilot ready a shuttle for me.”

“Aye, Sir.”

As the ship angled into position, a small fleet of ships exited hyperspace.
“Receiving Republic IFF’s, Captain,” Romny announced as Ferris continued to watch his ship in action again. It ran so smoothly, he’d forgotten what it was like to wear his uniform in duty, the way his ship moved and danced amongst the stars. It was invigorating to be back in the saddle.
“Confirmed,” another officer announced, “New Republic Task Force Beta-Nine, Sir,” the officer paused as his fingers danced along his console’s controls, “Picking up a new hyperspace echo off long-range sensors, Sir,” his fingers continued to blur as he got the exit vector for the echo, “Direction… Port-side, forty clicks.”

Ferris turned his attention to the location the officer had pointed out and saw several small freighters exit. Republic Freighters. Possibly carrying his late arrivals, and Omega’s new squad member.
“Lieutenant Romny,” he said formally as he about-faced towards the turbolift, “You have the bridge.”
“Aye.”

* * *

He watched as one of the freighters landed in the hanger and marveled at the sight of the naval recruits and marines as they filed out of it. They formed into two rows of twenty each: Marines in one, Naval Recruits in the other. They dropped their bags and saluted Ferris. He returned the salute, then dropped his arm. He hadn‘t done this in a long time, but remember procedure as he gripped the bottom of his tunic and stretched it, making it tight and crisp. He folded his arms behind his back and began, “Welcome to the NR Infinity.”
“As per her design, she was once a rogue Mandolorian Keldable-Class Battleship, designed by MandalMotors during the First Galactic Civil War,” he paused, looking at their faces, bright and full of excitement, all except one of the marines, he looked disinterested in Ferris‘ speech.
He shook his head, he needed to meet Gavin soon, “Enough with the pleasantries, all the information that’s needed is in the dossiers on the datapads in your quarters. Go read them, sort out your things and report to your assigned stations. At ease.” he finished and watched the forty men and women grab their personal items and walk to their quarters.
The one marine walked past him. “Not you.” Ferris said as softly as he could, though it must have come off as a hiss. The man—in his early twenties he assumed—stopped, dropped his bag, turned and snapped a salute. Ferris grabbed a small datapad from his pocket and cross-referenced faces. Without looking up he continued, “Private Joshua Holloway,” he announced, “You’re not assigned to the regular marines.”

Joshua slowly opened his eyes as Sergeant Hosea yelled throughout the ship,
Rise and Shine Ladies!”
Joshua shook his head trying to wake himself up from the long, almost endless trip, “We’re approaching the NR Infinity, so grab your belongings and get ready to shove off.” As Sergeant Hosea climbed back into the cockpit, the soldiers and Joshua scrambled and began collecting their belongings. He watched the gangplank lower and Joshua walked out of the ship and formed a line with his fellow soldiers. Joshua looked up saw the Captain of the ship, He‘s better then my Dad already. Joshua complimented inside his own head as he saluted along with the others. Unlike this man, his father would send his assistant to greet the crew. Joshua became tired, as the Captain greeted the crew with a speech, all Joshua wanted to do was head for the quarters and get some shut eye. “At Ease” the Captain finished.

As Joshua made his way for his quarters, but--“Not you.” The Captain announced privately to Joshua. He immediately collected his military manners as he dropped his bags and turned to the commander to snap a salute. The Captain pulled a small datapad out of his pocket. Without looking up he continued, “Private Joshua Holloway,” he announced, “You’re not assigned to the regular marines.”

“What do you mean, sir?” replied Joshua, still in his crisp salute.

Jonathan eyed the recruit. He continued to read the datapad. His father, Captain Michael Holloway of the NR Living Despair, had Joshua serve under him. Jonathan requested a recruit or a transfer to his ship’s advanced team; Joshua near instantly applied for the position, no matter the task. Jonathan shook his head slightly. He looked the young man over, age twenty-two and he’d been on patrol duty for only five months. Thin, tan and seemed to be well disciplined, contrary to Jonathan’s datapad, however.
He knew he had problem with his patrols, being lazy. However, in the last few weeks, his record has been improving.

He didn’t hold the man up any longer. He placed the datapad back in his pocket and placed his hands behind his back, “You’ve been assigned to Omega Team. Huey Garza. Barracks Four.”

You’ve been assigned to Omega Team. Huey Garza. Barracks Four.

“Can you give me details, sir?”

The captain eyed him with a strange smile, then simply replied, “I’ll let you find out for yourself. Dismissed.”

Bidding Joshua farewell, he boarded another shuttle and quickly left the hanger. Joshua brought his hand back down to his side, picked up his bags and left the hanger. As Joshua went to Barracks Four, he heard someone calling him, “Joshua, you‘re going the wrong way!”
Joshua turned around and saw his good friend, Kyle Munro, of whom came on a different freighter. Kyle pointed his thumb behind himself and yelled out, “Barracks fifteen is this way.” .
“I been reassigned,” replied Joshua, “To Omega Team, know anything about ‘em?”
Kyle shook his head as he answered, “They go on the toughest missions the New Republic has to offer, and that you’re the second replacement they‘ve sent.”
“What happened to the last guy?”
“Why don‘t you ask them yourself? Nice knowing ‘ya.”
Kyle replied, as he departed from Joshua.
After walking around the Infinity, and almost getting lost, Joshua finally found Barracks Four, home to Omega Squad.

Sorry guys, I was very tired and I couldn't figure out what to do for this post. Oh, well.

In absence of Orion, and the pressing attack coming closer, I’ve left this space for Orion and I to take it up when/if he gets back. Until then, he has given permission to Space Jawa and I to PNPC him until/if he returns.

Date: Late 41:1:11, Standard Time, Early Morning

Jonathan gazed back at the fleet from the comfort of The Infinity, they were in formation and were ready to begin the grueling task of protecting the immediate sector and neighboring systems from pirate or rogue activity. He was about to retire to his quarters, when Gavin appeared to him in a typical holographic form.
“Captain Ferris.” Gavin Darklighter said, “Prepare for a Hyperspace jump to the Bilbringi system. We’ve been reassigned.”

“Right away, Admiral Darklighter.” Once the Admiral disappeared from his view, Jonathan turned to Lieutenant Romny, “Input coordinates for the Bilbringi system and alert all crewmembers that we’re departing, as per a reassignment.”

Bilbringi, Ferris thought, He hadn’t been there since The Infinity went under repair and rearmament, after a battle with The Empire ten years ago left it crippled and out of service for several months thereafter. It was the dread thought of no service, if it would get repaired in time to continue the war and assist in any way it could. He enjoyed being in space, so many laterals of attack to choice from, so much open space to maneuver in. It would have pained him to have lost such opportunities for payback against the Empire.
Especially after what the Empire had done to his family, killing them during an attack on Dantooine. He had a love for hating the Empire, more towards Daara’s former Empire, however. The new ones weren’t too bad, he just kept a watchful eye on them. He waited for the stars to turn into streaking lines that would bend and warp into infinite lines as The Infinity entered Hyperspace, along with the rest of the Fourth Fleet.

Garza entered Barracks Four, seeing marines adorning the inside of it, but he turned this attention to three huddled in a corner, laughing and patting each other’s backs as they chatted. Omega Team. As he paced towards his motley, misfit squad, he continually reminded himself of their faces and names. In war, or even in duty, forgetting someone who had served with you was the lowest form of disgrace one could offer to a fellow soldier.
Duncan Starker, ’Duke’ by the team, was his team’s demolition’s expert, humorous and caring towards the welfare of his teammates, cracking jokes and being insubordinate when the situation came about in an attempt to loosen the team up. He was insubordinate all the time, if not mildly when off the battlefield. But he was too much of a good soldier to dismiss from duty.
Clyde Galloman, or ‘Cipher’ as the team called him, was the tech specialist of his team, joining up at the same time as Duncan after being encouraged to sign up, but only if they were both promised to be assigned together. Their inside jokes and adventures together would have been a ‘loss’ for the team if they were ever separated. Clyde lost his left arm when trying to throw a grenade back towards the enemy, he saved the rest of his team, but had to get a cybernetic prosthetic, modifying it to contain a small bacta tank in case something happened, while adding a capability to allow him to hack into computers faster than before. He was constantly joking and complaining that if he lost his other arm he’d put in a holonet hub inside it, but the scary thing was that he could probably pull it off.
Nora Sprax, or simply just ‘Sprax’, was the team’s Twi’lek medic. She acts like she’s in charge most of the time, bossing and relaying orders Garza had just made aloud seconds earlier. But her strong will and determination was her strong point. Her parents divorced when she was young, for no apparent reason either. Her father was a bio-doc studying plants and fauna on Felucia, killed by a wild Yerdua Poison-Spitter during one of his surveys. Her mother was a decorated Admiral in the Republic Navy, serving during the war with Daara Zend for the Republic, dying bravely in battle, six years after the family’s divorce.

“Sup, Sarge?” Duke asked aloud, the rest of the squad turning to him.

Garza was a decorated Sergeant, refusing several promotional opportunities so he could stay with his team. He didn’t know what he’d do without them, or what they would do without him. He started his service on The Infinity, serving on several battlefields across the Galaxy during the War with Daara Zend with his team, before they lost a team member. He was good friends with the ship’s CO, Captain Jonathan Ferris, even drinking in the messhall with him when the times dictated. He was about to speak up, when a private walked up to him, simply asking, “You Huey Garza?”

Joshua walked inside barracks four, he saw all of the fellow soldiers settling in their new home. Joshua walked up to one of the soldiers and asked, “I‘m looking for Huey Garza, is he here?”
“You must be the new guy,” the soldier replied, “He’s down the hall to the right you‘ll see him with a bunch of guys that kind of… stand out.”
“What?”
“You‘ll know what I mean. You better get going, you don’t want to keep him waiting.”
“Okay, thanks.”
Joshua thanked as he followed the path that the soldier gave him.
Joshua saw a group of four people as he peered around the corner. Joshua recognized the rank on one of the soldier as a sergeant and walked up to him and asked, “You Huey Garza?” The man turned around and looked at the new recruit and replied, “That‘s me, ya need something?”

Joshua saluted Huey Garza as he said, “My name is Joshua Holloway, I‘m your new recruit, sir!"

Garza shook his head at the young man’s salute. He had heard rumor that Ferris had replaced his lost squad member, but he didn’t expect it this soon. He motioned Joshua to sit next to the rest of his teammates as he took purchase in front of his bunk. Leaning against it as he asked his preparatory questions to the recruit:

“Where were you trained?”

“By my Superior Officers aboard New Republic Capital Cruiser, The Living Despair, Sir.”

“Cut the ’Sir, Yes, Sir’ crap, okay? I‘m a Sergeant, not Ares Valure.”

“Yes, sir—Okay, Sarge.” he sputtered.

“Yeah, whatever,” Huey aggregately replied, “That one’s Cipher,” he pointed to Clyde, seeing him adjust his optical glasswear.

“Hey, Welcome to the End.” Clyde replied, referencing to the meaning of Omega.

“His name’s Duke.” Huey quickly continued, bobbing his head to Duncan.

“Hey, how yah doing?” Duke greeted, “You smell very green.”

“She’s Nora.” Huey finished.

She silently nodded, then quickly closed her eyes and laid against the side of the barracks. Joshua took a moment to take in their faces, Huey doing the same to him.
“My name’s Garza, you can call me that, or Sarge. We‘re all in this together now.”
Duke and Clyde stood and left for the mess hall, betting on how long the new guy would last, Clyde betting on their first engagement with pirates.
