“–don't want any surprises."

The voices were muffled, but still audible through the thick metal plating above Daegon’s head. Next to him, Cee sat with her blaster out and her eyes on the latch holding the cockpit’s smuggling compartment shut. So far, the only footfalls he had counted were a single pair of combat boots and at least one pair of…talons, he guessed, although it was hard to be certain. The small minicam he’d disguised as a wall fixture had only granted the two of them a moment’s view of Vera Nico, but one glimpse had been enough. She was wearing a simple flight suit with a few odds and ends attached, along with one noticeable addition–a jetpack. That would complicate things, especially if the two agents were set on ‘capture’ and not ‘kill.’

In fact, it was all Daegon could do not to throw open the hatch and burn the fugitive down where she stood as she clomped through his ship, setting charges and generally making a mess. He ground his teeth until he heard a ringing in his ears and forced himself to keep his gaze on the datapad. They needed to wait until they had a visual on whoever else Nico had brought with her. Daegon reached for his comlink and clicked it once to let Malbacca, Kaor, and the other agent to hold their position. They were stashed in a much larger compartment underneath the main hold. A single clicked answered him, and together he and Cee continued to watch Vera as she went about her sabotage.

Finally, when it seemed like Nico would leave, she drew her blaster and fired it into a mass of wiring beneath the cockpit controls. Daegon silently mouthed a curse regarding Nico’s extremities and a new repository for his vibrodagger. Cee ignored him and continued watching until Nico was gone. They could still hear her, albeit barely. "-might take us a few hours otherwise." the assassin was saying to her cohorts. There were several more footfalls–definitely talons, Daegon thought to himself–and then there was silence.

Just to be on the safe side, he waited a good minute before depressing a small switch inside the compartment. The latch swung open with an almost inaudible click, and the door silently slid open. Together, Daegon and Cee climbed out, careful to remove their boots to avoid creating footsteps. As they sneaked over to the cargo compartment, Daegon clicked his comlink twice. Go. By the time they reached the main hold, Mal and the others were waiting. The Wookiee jerked his shaggy head towards the hyperdrive chamber, signaling that Nico and her friend were in there.

Daegon pointed his slugthrower towards the cargo elevator, which had been forced open to allow the thieves entry. Kaor wordlessly slinked over to the ramp and began scanning the area with his rifle. If any of Nico’s cohorts were out on patrol and tried to return, they’d be dead in a heartbeat. Probably sooner, knowing Kaor.

With the only entrance covered, Daegon, Malbacca, and the two agents slowly and quietly made their way up the access corridor towards the port engine, where the primary hyperdrive was located. Daegon held up three fingers when they reached the door. Three, two, one…

He slapped the control panel and slid inside, Mal right behind him. His gun was up and aimed between Nico’s shoulder blades, and Malbacca bared his fangs as he centered his bowcaster’s crosshairs on an armored Barabel wearing a jetpack. “Nobody move unless you want to be feeding the buzzards,” Daegon warned coldly. Behind him, he heard the two Republic agents’ blasters whine as they aimed them at the two luckless thieves. “If them so much as sneeze, blast’em.”

Frak.

Vera narrowed her eyes at the barabel, they had failed her for the last time. They had allowed the transmission to be leaked to the Blight Leaper, failing to calibrate it to a secured frequency and now, they hadn't secured the Star Raptor's base compartments. The smugglers had managed to outnumber her, but she wasn't entirely outgunned. "You," Vera stared at the woman, the pale skin as though she had spent most of her time behind a computer screen. The Khan must've had somesort of tracking device attached to the hull, adding to list of failures the barabels had managed to write in the last days.

"Sabri," she spoke with a curvy grin, "Spare the wookiee, kill the man first." She was referring to the taller gentlemen who had taken control over the situation. And where there was control, Vera would bring a perfect amount of chaos. "I am taking the secondary hyper engine, whether you like it or not. I've rigged the Star Raptor with explosives, and the whole shabang in the cockpit, was to alert my starfighter friends of our delicate position. If I fail to contact them within the hour, they'll light up this entire rock valley with proton torpedoes."

The wookiee growled, but another variable remained. The second barabel would be arriving soon, and add another blaster to her side of the standoff. "Lower your weapons, and stand back." Vera raised an eyebrow, ready for their disobedience.

Coral adjusted her blaster, raising it from Vera's heart, to her skull. The bald head was off setting, but even Coral knew the reason behind it. The year she had spent in Kuati detention centers, and cells across the galaxy, is a constant reminder to her time there, and the fact she grasped freedom each and every time soon after. She was a slippery foe, and her words meant everything they implied. She would blow the Star Raptor, in hopes of that below one percent chance, that she'd survive. And with Vera's odds, she probably would.

"Selanno, you might want to consider the fact she isn't bluffing. I heard her say something about explosives. She might know where to stand, or where to run to if things get..out of hand." Coral whispered, before something hard landed behind them. Another barabel with a rapid-shot blaster hissed behind them. The wookiee growled, but Coral's trigger finger hadn't moved.

"I'll put a shot right between Nico's eyes," Coral taunted, but felt the pressure of the new equation. In essence, things could get bloody, and nasty real quick. The odds were teetering to both sides.

Tseneca fell back in pain as the bone reset into place, Lucas retrieved a strange looking vial of pills, but had no idea what they might be for. He set them back into their place, before ripping a portion of his pant leg. He wrapped it around her fragile arm, tensing each time she recoiled from the pain. "Damn, first a rancor, then landing a doomed ship... you're one hell of a woman," Lucas cracked attempting to ease the moment.

"I wonder when the angel is going to be back, and if so, with who. There might be worse things than being trapped on this planet. She might bring Vera and her goons, or some kind of pirate band." Lucas answered, thinking twice about their safety, "And now that I think about it," he eyed the large pot in the corner, "She might have spared us, not saved us... getting us all comfortable, before she invites a few friends over to kill us, and eat us alive."

Lucas touched his side, feeling the hard surface of his lightsaber. It was there, should he need it.

There was no question about it. They were in deep shit. While seconds ago they had the metaphorical 'high ground,' their position was quickly slipping.

Kelson had already decided that he was going to shoot Vera. She was the type to do anything to get out of a situation, and was very good at turning the tables. The soon she was dead, the sooner their situation would improve. The only time capturing her could be back in the picture would be when they had the definite higher hand, all of Vera's ace's expended.

Now, however, was not the time. Kelson trained his gun Vera, and tugged on the trigger, ready to fire.

"Put your weapons down and yours hands up. She's not paying you enough." He said with malice towards the three criminals. Kelson took a deep breath, ready for the fight.

"Put your weapons down and yours hands up. She's not paying you enough." The barabels laughed, their native tongues slithering against the words of the human next to the white female. Vera's smirk rose against her right cheek, the essence of the situation beating against the tempo, as the jack-in-the-box tune whined into the final seconds.

Vera's voice cut into the tense moment, "I do not pay them anything, you see, politics, ethics, action...run so much deeper than any value of credits. Take a look at your governments, and the blind eyes they pretend they don’t have. Corruption breeds at the very center of justice." Sabri scoffed, mocking the wookiee, "You cannot persuade them against me, nor I against them. They are brothers to a cause greater than even myself," Vera poised her blaster, just waiting for the first pop.

Vera continued, attempting to plant a seed in their hearts, "Your knowledge of the galaxy, and how it works, is truly biased. You see and think the way you've always known how, failing to embrace a new age of thought. Ideals from those around you, fusing into your own mundane personalities. I fight for a greater cause, sealing the fate of those who had done a tremendous wrong.

“Senator Della Donna was guilty of profiting from illegal spice and drug trafficking across the Republic’s border, and direct transportation into his own world. I doubt any of you have seen the inside of a drug traffic center, to understand the horrors, and torment it causes populations across the galaxy.”

Vera rotated her blaster, which caused some nervous arms and fingers to flex in anticipation, “No, no. You’re all too good for that, ignoring the children that will starve, because their parents shot themselves up with death sticks. A single senator will profit millions because of his own greed, and not a single person will do anything about... There are those that will fight against the injustices that stain the universe, and I am one of them.” The speech dropped, “And as you go about your daily business, billions will remain in the dark, and live in penitence for the acts of the guilty, because not a single one of you will take a stand…”

The barabels hissed.

“Not us,” and she fired at a small gas chamber that was to be used to assist the skiff in loading the secondary hyperdrive… it ignited, causing a massive shockwave to hit several of those around her. The shockwave managed to toss Nico out of the line of fire, by sheer inches, something she had gambled, and won. Sabri, the nearest barabel, hissed, skidding backwards against the shockwave’s current, while firing madly at the opposite side.

The second barabel’s automatic, fast round blaster roared into action, shots streaming all across the room, as all took cover….

Pop goes the weasel.

Neo took up the rear as they fled from the pursuing creatures. Whenever they reached the fronto of the group, a pair of the commandos would turn and open up on full auto into the mob, a standard tactic for covering a retreat, but usually the blaster bolts just pinged off of the creatures' mirror-like hide. Occasionally a shot would hit an armpit or knee, causing one of the beasts to stagger and slow, but the rest surged on, relentless. One of the intelligence agents screamed as the nearest creature leapt forward and snagged his ankle. Two more grabbed his arms, and together they dragged him, screaming, into the night. Neo shuddered and continued running. They came across several more warrens like the one he'd stumbled upon, and seconds after they had passed even more beasts emerged from these holes, swelling the hunters' numbers even more.

Within minutes, they could see the crashed freighter ahead of them, the only landmark within kilometers. It was a long, cylindrical model with dual engines emerging from the nose and aft section on either side. Its blunt nose has been crushed by the impact of the crash, and there was a substantial crater where it had come to a rest. On the other side of the ship was an ominous-looking cliff, which the ship was resting solidly by with a small section of its tail handing over.

When they came up to the freighter, he shouted into his helmet comm. "Get on top of it! Find high ground!" Suiting action to words, he charged down the depression of the crater, then up the slanted hull of the derelict, his combat boots ringing on the durasteel along with those of his team members and the officers. The beasts roared their malevolent, melodic cries as they continued after the Imperials, closing on the freighter. Neo and the other commandos reached a solid wall of metal and were forced to turn and open fire while Tranada and Church struggled to climb. Red blaster bolts illuminated the night and filled the silence with their high-pitched whines. Periodically he heard the sharp crack of Corporal Lance's Pelletmaster over the howls of the beasts, followed by a cry of pain as the slug found a weak spot. Several creatures dropped to a storm of blaster bolts, but there were more, many more.

As the creatures reached the lip of the crater, Neo barked out, "Spread out! Disperse, disperse!" just as the first of the beasts took a running leapt and landed on the hull meters away. The commandos broke formation like the fingers of a hand, each heading in random directions away from the creatures. Above them, Tranada and Church continued to fire with their weapons, trying to cover the commandos' withdrawal. Lance ran out of ammunition for his slugthrower and switched to a small repeating sidearm, but four of the creatures quickly overwhelmed him and knocked the weapon out of his hands. Like the Intelligence agent, they dragged him off the ship and into the darkness of the night. Neo could hear his screams over the comm, blanketing everything else.

He shut off the comm and kept moving, trying not to imagine what was in store for his friend.

Neo continued to spray the beasts pursuing him with blaster bolts until the depletion alarm in his E-17 buzzed at him. With a practiced move born of decades of fighting, Neo dropped the empty power pack and slapped a new one in place before the old one clinked on the freighter's hull. he raised the rifle and continued backpedaling, firing as he went. He saw a pair of creatures leap up on top of the ship and Dome and Keran made a last stand near the cracked gun turret, their blaster rifles on full auto. Ellis was backed into a corner near the aft end of the ship, lobbing grenades at a horde of creatures that were intent on snatching her. Six of the creatures scrambled up onto the hull behind him, and he saw that he was headed towards the end of the ship hanging over the cliff. He pressed his lips into a firm line and unsafed a thermal grenade.

"Fire in the hole!" he yelled before lobbing the explosive at the creatures. They growled and rushed forward, eager to take advantage of his follow-through. There was a loud whumph and Neo's visor polarized as the grenade detonated. Four of the creatures disappeared in the blast and the other two were hurled off of the ship, smoking. He used the momentary respite to glance around and take stock of the situation.

Tranada and Church were fighting hand-to-hand with a pair of creatures. As Neo watched, one of them knocked the pilot down and kicked his blaster away. Dome was cursing in Huttese as he used his blaster as a club to keep a dozen creatures at bay, while Keran had his in one hand and a sidearm in another, firing both weapons into a steadily increasing crowd of beasts. Dome was drowned by a sea of creatures, his hand reaching up into the sky before sliding underneath the mob. He didn't scream.

"Sarge!" Neo whipped his head around to see four creatures grab Private Ellis by her legs and drag her off the ship. "Ellis!" The commando's helmet came off when the five of them hit the ground, and she screamed. Ellis began clawing at the dirt as they dragged her away, crying for him to help her. Neo took a step forward, preparing to sprint off the ship, but an animal-like grunt made him jerk his head to the right. One of the creatures rose up from the lower part of the ship. Before Neo could raise his rifle, it backhanded an arm into his chestplate, and he flew several meters into the air. His blaster and helmet clattered to the ground below as he landed on his back, sliding on the downward curve of the hull. He saw a flash of rocks and the edge of the ship and adrenaline rushed into his veins. Frak frak frak!

Neo summersaulted backwards over his head and grabbed an EV railing with one hand just as his feet reached empty space. The bar bent under the weight, and one end came free as the creature who'd hit him slowly lurched forward and regarded him with predatory eyes. It opened its wide mouth, revealing row upon row of jagged teeth and a thick tongue. Neo closed his eyes and looked away as the bar bent even farther down towards the canyon below. Of all the ways to go out, this isn't what I had planned...

Suddenly, a bright glow illuminated the night, and he opened his eyes to see someone standing near the edge of the crater, surrounded by glowing orbs of light. The creatures turned towards this new threat and hissed, but a much brighter pulse of light caused them to cry in pain, and they fled from the source of their agony. The creature standing over Neo disappeared, and he managed to pull himself up the bar and back onto the ship. All of the creatures were running away from the light, and now that their cries were receding into the distance he heard...humming. The being orbited by the orbs of light was humming a soft melody as she walked slowly forward. She appeared human, but graceful membraneous wings emerged from her back, flexing. She had a tranquil beauty to her, an otherworldly aura that unerved and drew him to her at the same time. Feelings of peace and calm replaced his sense of urgency and the normal combat rush of fear. Neo slid down the side of the ship, his helmet forgotten, and slowly walked over to her. Beside him, he could see Keran, Tranada, and Church also moving to the woman.

When the creatures were gone, she stopped humming and the orbs fell from their paths into the sand, the light fading to a dim glow. The woman sagged slightly, as if drained, and Neo blinked as the peace left him. Now he felt alone, and empty, and imcomplete. He tried to speak, but his voice refused to come. Finally, he managed a hoarse whisper. "Who...who are you?"

Water spilled over his body, as he leaned against the shower walls. His mind was slow, agonizing the days he had spent on Iego. Was he to spend his entire life here? His eyes fluttered against the droplets, the steam relaxing his skin, as he washed over his chest. "Jonas," the older woman called, attempting to retract him from the comfort of the fresher. Jonas ignored her, pretending the waterfall was louder than it really was. She called him again, "Jonas, your droid is flashing."

His eyes shot open, as he shut the water off. He reached for a towel, barely wrapping it around himself, before he opened the door. He raced across the room, and to the standing droid. It was a collection of cybernetic parts, best resembling something from the Clone Wars. Over the last eight months, Dee, as Jonas called it, was the only true friend he had. The woman entered the room, "Jonas, oh, you're not- uh... I'll be back, uh, holler at me when you're... uh..." Her flushed complexion hit the door panel, causing the room to be sealed.

“How many?”

“Three,” the droid responded, “Four.”

Jonas tossed the towel in the corner, pulling his pants around his waist, before tugging a shirt over the top of his head. Moments later, he retrieved his night gear, and a coat that was supposedly able to withstand Hoth’s temperature drops. “Location?”

The droid paused, relaying the information that was being retrieved from a source inside Cliffhold’s security network. “56 miles east, across the Platorik Canyons.” That wasn’t the worst spot, but would make speeder transit extremely difficult. He took the ignition key to his speeder bike instead. Transit would be faster, and he’d be able to assist anyone that was injured. Grabbing handcrafted strobe lights, he had built to temporarily repel any demon creatures that might have sensed or felt the crash, along with dagger built from the sharpest scales from a beast deep within their domain.

“Jonas, what in the thousand moons, is going on?” Aola exclaimed, emerging after nervous anticipation, “Where are you off to? You know it isn’t safe out there!” Aola had been his caretaker, self proclaimed of course, since the day he had crashed. She had fed and protected him, but knew that he was waiting for any opportunity to get off the planet. “You will wait until morning!”

“I can’t, four ships have crashed! There might be someone who needs some help, medical attention, or shelter. You want to leave them, have them fend for themselves for another ten hours until sunrise?” Jonas knew the demons would waste no time to drag them into Iego’s underworld, hold them for a night or two at most, before celebrating ‘the gifts of the gods’. “Sorry Aola, I can’t do that. I need to get off this planet, I can’t live here for as long as you and the others, I need a way out. And this could be it.”

Aola shrunk, her voice faltering, “Please.” Jonas hit the door pad, his eyes sulking for any pain that he had caused her, “Thank you, I will be back. I promise.” It was the last words of the night, as he rushed to the city’s garage, with Dee rolling beside him. Strapping the equipment to the bike, as the droid connected itself into a prefabricated location, Jonas slammed on the ignition, and sped away into Iego’s darkest night…

Coral and the captain were the first to hit the floor, before rolling to an adjacent corridor. FRAK, she shouted, but the sheer volume of the action, muted her response. She ducked out from the position, just slightly to see what was going on.

Vera Nico had taken a prestigious position, just several lucky steps from being able to exit, while her goons had the rest of them pinned behind cooridors, bulkheads, and a few sturdy containers. New Republic Intelligence Command would read everything about this mission, and any failures in opportune moments of either capturing, or eliminating Miss Nico. And understanding the complicated, and dogmatic climb up the chain of command, Coral would take every chance, at earning somesort of medal.

"Cover me," she said to no one in particular, but felt as though Selanno had best received the notion of her message. His fingers tightened across the hilt of his blaster, before all three emerged slightly from their cornered positions. The Captain had managed to score several diversion shots, causing the fast-round blaster barabel to hunch behind his position, leaving Vera vulnerable to a sling of shots. Coral fired rapidly, causing her own blaster to hiss, and smoke from a sudden over heat. Government piece of shit, she said, tossing the weapon aside, and reached for one of the barabel’s dropped weapons.

It was dirty, and she was unable to place its manufacturer, but by the looks, it was a mean weapon. She waited for the others’ signal, before returning to the firefight. The weapon shook as it unloaded its barrage, the blaster bolts slamming into the target’s area with illegal force. “Damn,” Coral whispered, knowing why Coruscant’s police force complained about raids against Hutt-backed syndicates.

Just minutes, and in the distance, a jetpack roared before the sound slowly died away. Coral looked back, and Vera was no where to be found.

“FRAK!” This time, she was heard by everyone.

The night's cool air sprayed across her face, as the jetpack brought her against the wind current. She landed in the night, waiting for the barabels to emerge. Even though they had complicated things, she didn't want to leave them entirely behind. "Come on, lizards." She toyed with her blaster, clipping one onto her side, while removing the small launcher. She targetted the Star Raptor's side, and fired two shots. The vessel shook, the hull relatively unharmed, but it would stir the confrontation from the inside, and hopefully, produce fleeing barabels.

A twig snapped in the distance, and something moved in the far. Vera's vision was unable to penetrate the dark night, and knowing it was not her own, she fired three shots. The first two whisted into oblivion, but the third illuminated an evil looking creature. Vera took a step back, but her heels had stepped into another. Its fangs drew from the inside of its lips, hissing as it touched the skin of shoulder. It merely slithered across her flesh, as though savory the taste, before attempting to hoist her over its back.

Shots inflamed her location, a barabel had emerged, causing the creature to drop her to the floor. Activating the jetpack, Vera skid across the ground, scraping the clothing, and partial skin from her body, before taking off in the sky. She removed several glow sticks from a pocket and dropped them into the night, revealing an entire swarm was crawling over the Star Raptor like ants. Sabri activated his jetpack, and shortly after, the second barabel’s flight was interrupted. A creature had launched itself, slicing into the jetpack, and grounded him.

“Ventri!” Vera shouted, firing her blaster, but the barabel had quickly disappeared among the swarm. Sabri hissed violently, his automatic blaster roaring streaming into the night, but to no avail. “Sabri, he’s lost. He’s lost. We need to regroup, rethink this. We need to secure the Khan…”

The two retreated, leaving the occupants of the Star Raptor to fend for themselves…

Nivo's jet wash had barely left the escape pod hatch before a keening wail arose from the darkness outside. Daegon checked the clip in his slugthrower: half empty. or half full, he thought, trying to find a spark of optimism in their situation. Another spray of bolts hit the edge of the corridor he was hiding in, a reminder that there was still one very pissed Barabel still sitting in the hyperdrive bay with a repeating blaster. Daegon popped up and squeezed off a few shots, causing the reptilian mercenary to duck behind a section of deck plating that had been knocked loose by Nico's makeshift explosive charge. The rounds pinged off the durasteel, and he was forced to duck back behind cover as the Barabel pumped more blaster bolts across the room, turning isolated sections of the walls cherry-red.

I swear, when I catch Nico I'm going to throttle that woman.

Daegon saw Cee dive towards the second Barabel's weapon, forgotten on the floor, and began triple-tapping bullets in an attempt to cover her. His target hissed as a round punctured its shoulder armor and it slid out of sight as Cee came up with the repeater. She began unloading into the metal sheet of cover, melting the edges and making a pair of holes in the sides. Daegon and Mal added their own fire to the barrage, and soon there was a loud whoosh as the Barabel activated his jetpack to shoot out of the same hatch Nico had left through. Daegon stood from his position and raced forward, glancing out into the darkness.

What he saw chilled him to the core.

Over a dozen hulking...things were swarming the Barabel as he tried in vain to hold them off with his blaster. Most of the shots simply pinged off of their mirror-like hides as they surrounded him and buried him with their combined mass. A single terrified yell echoed in the night before cutting off abruptly.

One of the creatures turned and saw Daegon. Oh, hell no...

It roared, an odd sing-song cry that alerted the others. There were several loud footsteps above him, and he realized that there had to be more on the outer hull. "Not good..." He turned and began running back up the corridor, heading for the cockpit. Cee took one look out the window, paled visibly, and followed as Mal cocked his bowcaster and began to fire out of the hatch. They passed Kaor in the cargo bay, who was firing round after round into a steadily approaching crowd of beasts. Several dropped as the Kaleesh found weak spots in their armor-like skin, but there were far more. The other agent stopped at the elevator door and added his own fire to the hunter's, slowing the horde slightly.

Daegon practically dove into the pilot's seat, not even bothering to strap in. He keyed for a cold start, praying that the repulsorlifts hadn't been one of the things to be sabotaged, and sagged in relief as they powered up. The Star Raptor rumbled, and slowly it began to lift its battered bulk off of the surface of the planet, listing visibly to port as the creatures began to slide off of the hull. Cee arrived in the cockpit and took the copilot's chair, strapping in as best as she could. They were about twenty meters in the air when a loud thump echoed off the hull to the let of the cockpit. Daegon saw something move in that direction and activated the cockit lights.

Its glare illuminated one of the creatures, clinging to the nose of the cockpit with all four limbs. It hissed at them fiercely and pulled itself up. Cee shrieked and fumbled for her blaster, but Daegon beat her to the draw. Taking one hand off the controls, he drew his slugthrower and fired from the hip, taking the creature in the neck. It slumped forward, impaling itself on the jagged edge of the shattered viewport as a hoarse death rattle escaped its lips.

More later.

She struggled against the straps' emergency constraints, but managed to get them around her. Coral blinked several times, her hands shaking against the sudden fiend-rush, before jolting into the soldier mindframe she had trained to be, granted, she was only a computer nerd, but the situation was do-or-die, and that brought out the best in her. The cockpit lights flickered on, revealing the ghastly creature, making its way towards them.

She reached for the illegal firearm, but Seranno's blaster rang off, just inches before it managed to chew her head off. The creature fell, a blood curdling cry echoing from its lips, before Coral had the hilt of the blaster in her hands, and placed the barrel into the creature's dying mouth. She pulled the trigger twice, a strange liquid splashing the cockpit floors, before she returned to the controls. "Haven't you ever seen a holo-horror where one shot, just isn’t enough?" She corrected several system failures, bypassing Nico's sabotage, but it was only a temporary fix. The ship would need major wire and cyber re-hauling if it was to navigate Iego's atmosphere and the junk orbiting the planet.

The Star Raptor hovered across the canyons, creatures slipping and sliding off the hull, as the rest of the crew fended off any remaining intruders. Coral checked the blaster’s cartridge, amused that the weapon still had a whopping 75%. “I’ll secure the decks, just fly us the frak out of reach…” Coral released the restraints, and found the captain and the wookiee’s position shortly around the corner. Three fiendish creatures snapped and roared as their brethren fell from the hull.

“Board this,” Coral had set her blaster to the lowest setting, firing into the light fixture, causing it to explode. The creatures screeched in protest, shielding their eyes with devilish howls of agony. Quickly amplifying the blaster to its highest yield, she fired into the abyss. She could hear her first two shots had make their marks, but the third, thudded against the hull of the Star Raptor, and left a nasty mark.

Too quick for Mal to respond, the demon creature lunged at the wookiee, and leapt from the unsecured portion of the hull. Coral and the captain ran to the position, watching the creature land with ease, before the wookiee disappeared beneath the swarm. “NO!” Gods damn it, she fired five shots, before the captain grabbed her arm.

She relayed the loss to Seranno, quickly taking a seat next to the sensors, “They have the wookiee...” Her fingers spun across the control panels, “But if I do this right, we might be able to give him some time,” She created a micro-reaction in the ship’s engines, which spewed a radioactive goo across the field. It would taint the wookiee, for several days at the most, while serving as a dual purpose of tracking. “It’s the best I could do for him, we don’t have the means, the numbers, or the weapons to get him back. The engine coolant, generally, doesn’t smell very appetizing, and judging by their primitive state, they’re not going to eat anything that smells toxic, and radioactive.”

Coral adjusted what sensors were online, and converted them into detecting the radioactive essence of the goo. “It’ll last for three days at most, but I think they’ll try an either wash, or roast it off of him,” she wasn’t sure if they would attempt a rescue, but at least, they had a means of tracking the hoard that had attacked them. “We should locate the humans that live here… we need medical supplies, hull repairs, and map of the creature’s dwelling.” Coral was extraordinarily observant, but it didn’t take any of her skills to spell it out that they lived underground. Coral sighed, as the captain took a seat nearby, it had been one hell of a day, and the night wasn’t looking any better…

After the light vanished, Jallorn realized quickly that these imperials might be looking out for him after the recent chaos. Retreating backwards, he fires a stun bolt at one of the imperials, then spins and runs back towards his ship, using the force to enhance his speed. As blaster bolts flew past him, he received a transmission. Dropping his blaster to his chest, Jallorn turned on his comm system, first radioing C5 to start the ship's engines, then sending out a broadband call, "Nico, this is Cade, please respond."

Kelson slumped back in his seat, and started to slow his breathing. His resolve that Nico would fall on her face was shaken, but he knew she'd suffered losses, too. He was damned impressed with the smugglers crew, though. They we're good men; most folks would have cut their losses and tried to overpower the agents, leaving them on the desolate world. Kelson stood, and looked at Coral.

"Hey. Not bad for a techie." He said and attempted a reassuring smile. If they made it out of this mess he'd be sure to see that she got a medal bigger than an apple.

He turned, and left for the cockpit with 'The Smuggler.'
"Look... we'll get him back. We'll find your wookie and make sure that Nico spends the rest of her life being shuttled from courtroom to courtroom for her crimes. In the mean time, well... I've heard that they're's a settlement on Iego. We'll look for lights, and get your ship as close to it as we can. So long as we take it slow and don't crash twice in one day, we could be back on our feet by morning."

Kelson looked out the cockpit, starring at the black expanse ahead of them, at the backwards world where heaven and hell met and blurred. Back on our feet by morning. They had not been on the planet for day and not seen more than two square miles, and had encountered angels, demons, and criminals. If we live till morning... Kelson thought to himself.

Tseneca breathed hard, her senses cloudy, the steady socked in ringing that sounded in her eardrums was slowly fading. She closed her eyes, Lucas was rambling about something. She could feel the heavy blankets beneath her scratch the bare skin of her arms, could feel her shoulder throbbing still and the clammy presence of sweat round her neck.

"Do you think we should leave?" she looked over at lucas, who seemed to be concerned with something in the corner. "well, Jedi boy? are your senses tingling?"

before he could answer, a noise made Tseneca rotate her head to the door. It sounded like blaster fire.

Firi backed away further, afraid, for once, that her good intentions might have gotten the better of her. They were off-worlders, castaways, humans. They carried weapons, the other ones, the ones she pulled from the ship, they hadntShe held her breath. Maybe she could make it back without them following her; but a few of them gazed at her with such wide eyes.

One spoke. "Who-who are you?"

She focused her gaze on him. He was older, it seemed, but he seemed to be leading the ragged band of spacers, unless she was mistaken. He spoke common. She swallowed. "My name is F-Firi'TakNik" her voice quivered. and she tried to stand straighter. "Of the plains. And you... you run from the Maelibus, yet you carry weapons. Are you friend or should I given them you to feed?"

The darkness seeped into my thoughts, a horrible dripping of bile and acid. I awoke to blindness, my eyes never gathering the smaller shapes and ominous loomings of the world around me.

I released my throat, the sound echoing through the underground caverns I called my home. They were, weren't they? The sound vibrations came back with visions of labrinthine stalagmites and jagged corridors, the warmth of leaden magma deeper down, the frigid ice covered walls higher up, the smell of decay and rot. My home. Under the scatter-lands, far from the place of other similar demons and their wretched packs. I was alone.

The dreams kept me awake nights, or tore through my sleep like fire. The scenes were of worlds, beings, smells, tastes: Maddening, all. I didn't want them, never did, but still they came. They brought with them such warm feelings, and in effect a horrible and unbridled rage. Today, the images glowed light, the shaken earth above me as ships came hurtling down from the sky, like fallen angels. Pain, fear, I breathed it in, drinking deep its sweetness. But the glowing light, the presence of hope. It drove me to distraction.

I slammed myself against the cold stone wall, howling, trying desperately to rid myself the terrible thread of madness sinking deep into my skin. I crouched on the floor, listening to the drip, holding my head in my fore-claws.

What I wanted... needed... blood. I needed to feed.

Neo regained his composure as the winged lady spoke. Firi'TakNik? It wasn't like any name he'd heard before. He gestured at his squad-what was left of them-to lower their weapons before he spoke. he didn't want to frighten their rescuer any more than she already seemed to be. "I'm Sergeant-" Neo began, before taking in the woman's simple dress and primitive tools. He would only confuse her with ranks and operational numbers, and it didn't look like they would find anyone on this planet who would be able to make sense of them anyway.

He took a step forward and extended a gauntleted hand. "I'm Neo. We're soldiers from the Empire." Neo managed a shaky, but reassuring grin. "And we come in peace."

Lucas thought for a moment, and decided to shut up for a moment, and collect his thoughts. He tried to extend himself, like Anakin Solo had instructed, and attempt to sense things around him. "Not sure," he finally resolved, letting the Force answer his own impressions. "I can sense you, because I've been around you longer, but this is such an unfamiliar place, I'm afraid I'm not sure-"

There was something. Vera had just attacked a group of the crashlanders, "I'm not sure our hero is very safe out there," Lucas added suddenly, "I can sense Vera. She's like a beacon right now, the Force is definitely preaching about her..."

His speeder bike treaded across the plains, as he pressed the accelerator. He was already riding at dangerous speeds, but he didn't want to miss anything. Time was extremely precious the first moments of the crash, all of northern Iego heard the first, but four ships.... now that was a victorious payload for the angels, and even greater for the demons.

In the distance, he could see the first crashlight, and something strange in the sky, fizzled from a bright illumination. It looked angelic, which was strange. They were never involved after the initial crash. Within moments, he was coming up on the site. It looked ravaged by demons, but indeed, a creature of the skies was standing before the group. They probably heard his arrival, causing him to approach with ease.

"And we come in peace," the cliche officer stated, despite the armor and lowered weapons.

Jonas stepped up, "You owe your lives to this woman, the demons normally attack in two hordes. The first is usually disorganized, starving vermin. The second, much more lethal.” Jonas paused, deciding to introduce himself, “I’m Jonas Eisley, an unfortunate member of this planet, like yourselves.” He looked over the ship, it was in pretty bad condition, but repairable. “Angel,” he referred to her as graciously as possible, using the phrase with a gentlemen’s tone, “Do you have shelter?”

The speeder bike approached, spraying dirt from under it as it came to a halt near the rag tag band of humans. They'd put their weapons away, a fact that didn't put Firi any more at ease. But the leader, the one who said his name was Neo, he'd had his palms toward her, a gesture of humility. She considered him for a moment. "We come in peace" He'd said, and his voice had been soft.

The speeder interrupted him, sending a breeze forward that picked up Firi's hair and made her exhale the breath she was holding. More humans? This on was young, she saw as he dismounted the speeder. He was young and clean, strange for someone living on Iego where the dust blew so much at any given time. His eyes scanned the crowd, adressing them, then landed on her. She matched his gaze; he was handsome, for a castaway, eyes the color of the sky long after the suns had set.

"Angel,” he said kindly. “Do you have shelter?”“

Firi hesitated. Her hovel. It was foolhardy to invite them into her home, but worse to save them and then let them be devoured by demons In the night. There would be only just enough room for them, all of them, If they didn’t mind burrowing like small animals.

“My home is a short walk away.” She said to the young cave dweller. “Its warm, and I have little food to spare, but it is safe.” And with that she turned and bade them follow.

Nico. A sense of urgency twisted her gut. Tseneca reached down, attacking the part of her boot where she’d had a chirp hidden since the fiasco on Corellia . She pulled it out, checking to see if it had gotten damaged during the crash. It had not.

“Kid,” she said and lucas turned to her. If he was surprised that she was now holding a tiny blaster, he didn’t show it. They were starting to get to know each other. “You still have that glo stick of yours?”
She heard the thumping of multiple boots on hard-packed dirt outside the small hovel, then the sound of two-barrel thrusters coming to a stop. A ground speeder?

“Lucas, did that angel have a speeder bike?” She asked

The captain's words brought a sense of ease over the situation, "Hey. Not bad for a techie." Exhaustion had hit her, the last drops of adrenaline had seeped from her veins. The tinge of thrist and hunger propelled from the back fringes of her mind, to the privatol thought, but somehow, even that faded. She thought about the day's events, and the nightmares that had played out.

Coral's body heaved, but she managed to control any vomit from leaving her system. The look of triumph on the angel's faces, and the bloodthirsty eyes of the demons... Coral shivered, not from the bitter cold of the atmosphere slipping through the hull fragments, but from fear and anguish for the lost companion.

Vera, Coral breathed, slamming her head against the co-pilot's chair, before relieving the position to one of Selanno's officers. She took a position aside Captain Ordo and nodded with his affirmation. Vera would pay, Coral would spend the rest of her life dedicated to such an outcome.

Lucas could feel a disturbance in the Force, but it whispered something of peace, opposed to the cold tinge of danger. He reached for his lightsaber, the unique sensation that everything was about to change, overcame him. That was something to sense, something that was vague and obvious, taunting at his padawan skills of inadequacy, something Anakin would take delight while patronizing incompleted training exercises. He turned to Tseneca, wondering if this might be the last time he saw her, that perhaps whatever was coming, would separate them forever.

No, not this time. That was clear.

The angel landed seconds later, Tseneca recalling the small blaster just before the woman could notice. "You're back," Lucas said, his own tone reflecting the suspicion they had felt. His eyes danced away from the angel, as hard as it was to look away, and glanced gingerly at his companion. His grip tightened, ever so tightly on the hilt of his lightsaber, but in a way, that would pass as a gentle posture adjustment. "You brought, friends?" Footsteps in the distance became louder, as the seconds passed by. Maybe they were a prize, a game to this species....

His eyes narrowed at the thought of becoming somekind of pet, or chewtoy for something so beautiful. In a twisted way, he was excited at being at her leisure, her command. On the other end of the more logical emotional spectrum, he’d slice her into little bits, before being eaten alive. His grip tightened, calling the Force to his fingertips, when finally, he saw the rider of the speeder bike.

A handsome man, but more importantly, a human man…

Nico, this is Cade, please respond, came the hired hunter's response. Vera grinned at the addition to her numbers, taking the comm to her lips."Cade, this is Vera Nico," her lips were solemn, as she retreated to the Khan, "I'm located on a rock island away from the mainland, across the canyon. It's secluded, and safe from the demon creatures." She sent the coordinates across the secured connection, "Meet me there in thirty minutes, Nico out."
