So sometimies people post what their character is doing, as well as responses by other people's characters. I was once on a site where it was okay to take control of someone else's character to make a better post as long as you stayed in character. That okay here? |

I believe that would be Godmodding. But I haven't played a game like that, and I'm just getting used to this. So, I'm the wrong guy to ask.
But, everyone is entitled to their own writing style here. _________________ "No One Deserves To Die, Except For Those Who Do." |

That's generally frowned upon here, unless you ask the player specifically for their permission first. Extreme incidents of it without permission is indeed godmodding (for example, having a character say or do something pivotal or important). _________________

Definitely frowned upon and one of my biggest pet peeves about role playing. I can't stand when someone makes my characters react or say something totally different to what I originally had in mind. Your best bet is to ask permission to take control of someone's character or if you're doing a conversation of sorts, a joint post works wonders. You play the post out over an instant messaging system with the other player and then combine it together into a post here. |

I made that mistake with Tiara back in... '07 or '08 in SWVIII?
And since learning what godmodding is (didn't quite understand it until later) at the RPGs held at SWGBHeaven, I realized what I did and still have guilt about it _________________ "No One Deserves To Die, Except For Those Who Do." |

As you can tell, the admins hate it, so I wouldn't do it, but every once in awhile it can be alright, if the actions are small. For instance, I had Cheapy's character, Neo, give my pilot a shot to help restore his consciousness. Doesn't exactly color his character at all (besides saying he's not 100% ass), just an action to enrich my character's account. If I had him say, however, "Quick, let's get out of here before he wakes up!" that would be a major no-no. _________________ Zachary Alan Baird

Well, the permissiveness will vary from player to player. For example, Lazer and Cheapy are friends and know each other well. However, I would take an extremely dim view of anyone putting words in the mouths of my characters or taking control of them without my explicit permission.
So, suffice it to say... don't do it here. Which is basically what Han and Cray said. _________________ Empress Shayera Jendob

Even then, I would make sure to get permission from the other player. Just to be on the safe side. |
