For Unity! We've been at it for two years. We've had a few rough patches, but we've always pulled through in the end. And now things are on the upswing, with some new blood coming and participating.

So, here's to two years, and quite a few more! :D

The original plan was Unity would just cover 41 ABY... then a sequel for 42... and a sequel for 43... we might look at changing that. :p

We could do seasons... break up the story in large chunks.

That way we can get some fresh air every year or so.

Speaking of fresh air...

"When the virus finally activated itself within an infected organism, it congealed various bodily fluids into a gray oozing substance that was capable of independent locomotion. This ooze carried the Sickness throughout the body, and had emitted viral agents into the atmosphere when exposed to open air. Upon coming into contact with living flesh, the fluid coagulated and crawled over the skin in search of an opening or wound by which to enter the body."

...So SW invented a biological T-1000. And after Cray said I couldn't have one in VIII. Bastards. :( Then again, there's also this:

"For the Sith alchemist who created the virus in hopes of finding a path to immortality, their goal could be achieved only by completing a dark ritual within a Sith Temple. This ritual required that the alchemist first infect themselves with the virus, then capture a member of the Jedi Order who registered a high midi-chlorian count. The virus ensured that the Sith's body would live on beyond death, but the process of decay caused the alchemist to die, leaving the corpse to be controlled by the Sickness. By using a Sith sword to cut out and devour the still-beating, midi-chlorian rich heart of the Jedi, the Sith could retain the death-defying qualities granted by the Blackwing virus, but prevent the dissolution of their bodily tissue, thereby gaining ultimate immortality."

Remember when SW was about the kid and the rogue who go to rescue the princess from the Evil Space Nazis? And the kid flies a plane and blows up the big bad villains death ray? And everyone laughs and parties afterward?

SW could use some fresh air instead of trying to encompass science fantasy, military science fiction, hard sci-fi, Star Trek technobabble (and competing with Star Trek for technical superiority as Curtis Saxton did), space opera, and the new trends toward sympathetic villains, gray heroes, and making everything darker, edgier, grittier, sexier, and bloodier.

Kind of. The Universe had already expanded to the point of the X-Wing games and beyond the first Zahn books by the time I first discovered it.

Still... it wasn't all "CUT OUT THE LIVING HEART AND EAT IT", either. :p

I guess once you hit a limit, you can never go back. I'm stuck with surly protagonists, space pirates with cloudy backgrounds and me trying to put in as much romance as I possibly can cause that's what I liked about SW in the first place. Well... also the lazers and the aliens and the kick-buttedness; but it was the romance that appealed to me as a 7 year old barbie-loving disney freak. :P

Then again, you could argue TFU already laid the stepping stones for it... just think of the intro...

"The Alliance was created by the Empire
They evolved
They rebelled
There are many copies
And they have a plan."

:p

BSG = Battlestar Galactica, in this case, Ronald D. Moore's reimagined series as opposed to the tacky Star Wars/Book of Mormon/Ancient Myth hybrid (I'm not joking or trying to be an ass... look into it :p) created by Glen Larson in 1978. The old one had some good episodes... the new one was just raw awesome. So much raw awesome, in fact, that it should be taken nasally via rolled up hundred dollar bill... errm, I mean--

:p

I dunno, I thought the whole "Mormonism in Spaaaaaaaaaaaace" was rather... novel. Granted, Scientology wasn't popular yet, so it was new for the time, at least... :p

No I don't actually. I didn't care much for the new series. :|

Only things I liked were some of the ships like the Mk II Vipers and the Pegasus, the battle sequences tended to be pretty good as well but overall it tried too hard.
