Feiya, Capitol of Deyer

Deyer is one of three habitable, but inhospitable, planets in the Anoat system of the Anoat sector, located in the Greater Javin of the Outer Rim. It is a colony world consisting primarily of oceans and is composed of floating raft cities, including the city of Feiya, and terraformed lakes. It features abundant aquatic life.

Kyp stared out ahead from the inside of the Vigilance. Deyer grew ever larger as he approached. The typical clear blue orb he had envisioned for years was scarred by large clusters of clouds. He knew the weather had a way of acting up but it seemed especially riled up. The closer he got the more the swirling clouds seemed to turn and morph as if to ward off the faint of heart. Despite the utter hell the storms were wreaking on the surface Kyp found it eerily quite.

During his approach he had not been hailed. It was not surprising to see a lack of orbital platforms. If there had been any years ago than they were surely destroyed when the Empire had come through. He decided to try his hand at communications with Feiya. “Feiya control, this is Jedi Master Kyp Durron, I request landing coordinates.” He waited for a minute and scratched his chin. Surely the weather was disrupting communications.

Kyp scratched his head and squinted to try and pick out some of the few spits of land that were not covered by clouds. Near the equator he spotted one of the volcanic islands that lay west of Feiya. The only reason it was not inhabited was because of it's frequent activity. Kyp was sure that it hadn't changed since he was a child either.

Careful not to apply too much force he slammed the throttle forward and moved towards the island. The RZ-1 Interceptor jolted as he entered into the atmosphere and plummeted further down. Unfortunately the clouds began to swirl along his path. He had no choice, there was no turning back. Kyp powered up the A-Wing's shields to avoid any unnecessary damage. The last thing he wanted was to be fried by a rouge lightning strike.

The Vigilance began to jolt violently and Kyp kept a careful eye on the instruments. Around him was a quagmire of grey accompanied by sudden jolts of light. All systems were still operational but he was being pushed around inside the supercell. Out of nowhere a streak of light flashed and force Kyp's eye's shut. Upon opening his eyes he realized he had been struck by lightning. His shields were reading forty percent. “Shit,” was the only word he could think of.

Another jolt to the ship sent her spinning. Kyp quickly righted the Vigilance but cursed a line of expletives in response. Sensing his desperation it seemed Deyer had finally given him a break as the clouds parted and he was greeted by only the rain. Barely visible, but easily recognizable, was a white semi circle in the dark grey waves below. Feiya.

Kyp didn't bother with trying to communicate with the city. He wanted his feet back on a solid object. If they didn't like him not following procedure then they'd just have to deal with it. The white semi-circle drew closer and Kyp's heart skipped a beat. He couldn't believe what he was seeing. It was Feiya but only a shadow of it's former self. The closer he got the worse it looked. Many of the city's windows and panels had been destroyed. Not a single ship sat in her docking bays and no lights could be seen.

“No. Not here,” Kyp said in a desperate attempt to force his mind to see something besides the destruction. He didn't want to take his eyes off it and had trouble finding the landing controls. He felt around till his mind registered the switch for the gear. Kyp slowly engage the vertical thrusters as he disabled the horizontal. As he began to set down he got a up close view of the dome that lay in the center of the circle. Here had been the city gardens and shops. The glass had broken away and the vegetation had become rampant inside.

The Vigilance touched down on the rain soaked landing pad with a satisfying by disturbing thud. He wasn't sure if this was the solid he was thinking of minutes before. The canopy opened and in came the rain. Kyp quickly threw up his hood and jumped out. Rain poured off the stained white surface of the dome structure as he ducked inside.

The inside of the city seemed to be no better. His memory came back in flashes as he recalled the interior, piece by piece. Once pristine glass cases were shattered and still bored blaster marks from all those years ago. Kyp moved forward and ran his hand along a wall. A sickening smell wafted towards him as he moved up and into the garden. He wasn't sure if it was the death of beings or plant life.

Approaching a set of stairs Kyp placed his left hand on a railing only to have it break off and crash to the durasteel floor. The pace of his breathing picked up despite his own movement. He slowly proceeded up the stairs as the sounds of the storm overhead increased. Each step felt as through he were moving through deep sand.

At the top of the stairs he was amazed and frightened at the scene in front of him. The once vibrant colors of the garden had all faded away. The shadowy remains were all covered in moss and overgrown. Rain pelted the floor and the few walkways which had not fallen free. What Kyp saw next disturbed him even further. Laying with it's back against a tree was a man. Or what was left of him. His clothes had been torn away by the wind and rain. In the center of his skull was a large hole. A headshot. The Jedi Master moved forward and was further disturbed when a rat came scurrying out of the deceased man's skull. Perhaps it had sensed that it was trespassing.

Kyp recoiled in disgust but not far enough. His home had been destroyed. All these years he had faith that they'd rebuild. This couldn't be. Inside his stomach twisted and flipped. He instinctively found himself leaning over and releasing the contents of his stomach. The soup of rations and stomach acid hit the floor and mixed into the rain water. Kyp heaved again and felt a strong burn along the length of his esophagus. The last of his food exited his mouth and pelted his boots. He didn't care. The next heave was dry but hurt nevertheless.

All the strength in his body drained along with the puke. Kyp felt his head become light and suddenly he crashed to the floor as rain drops attacked the side of his face. Slowly the world around him faded into darkness till there was nothing but black.

Beep. Beep. Beep. Kyp awoke and instinctively went for his lightsaber. From a lying position he jumped up to standing and ignited the blade. The deep blue blade jumped from the hilt and illuminated the dark garden. There was no light outside of his blade. The beeping continued but Kyp didn't bother to answer what he had no figured to be his comlink. His head swam and he struggled to get his bearings. Blood had rushed back to his head and limbs and threw him slightly off balance.

Kyp moved forward to the dead man's corpse. The memory flashed back to him. Feiya. He was home, or what was left of it. Around him he heard no noise other than the subtle sounds of the sea. He must have been unconscious for the remainder of the storm. Kyp inched forward careful not to step on any of the glass that littered the floor. He didn't avoid the puddles however. Looked down into one of the murky black pools and saw a reflection. Not his own however.

“Welcome home.” The reflection spoke to him and Kyp recoiled as he recognized the face. Frantically he spun trying to see if someone was playing a sick joke. All that was visible was the starry sky and a black ink of shapes formed by the vegetation. He kept his lightsaber poised in front of him. It's faint blue glow seemed like the only comfort he had as the world closed in from all sides. “Scared?” It spoke again but from all around him this time.

Kyp turned off his lightsaber and stood firm. He was no longer alone. A cold sensation rolled up his back as he was forced to sense his companion. “You are dead.”

“Not nearly enough. You are me,” it said as energy swirled around him.

“Show yourself, coward.” Kyp said as he gathered energy and reignited his lightsaber. Electric energy ran down from his core and gathered in his hand, waiting to be releasing.

Suddenly force energy exploded from behind him. Kyp spun to watch the stars in the night sky disappear behind a silhouette of black. The shifting ink grew larger till it towered over him. The mass gathered and shot in on him. In a heartbeat Kyp was ready to receive the attack and the electric energy pulsed from his finger tips and passed through the target. ”So weak,” it taunted as it dissipated.

Desperately he searched for where the apparition went only to see a weak spotlight at the exit of the gardens. Kyp quickly moved forward, poised to attack the light till it moved up and revealed the face of a old man. The Jedi Master skid to a halt and stared in disbelief. His hair was grey and matted. He seemed to be barely clothed and malnourished. “You've angered him. You should not be here.”

"Angered who?" Kyp said in astonishment. He had not only survived on the derelict city but had also seen and felt what Kyp had.

The old man switched off the flashlight and turned. Kyp could see the individual bones of his spine as he slowly retreated towards the sky bridge. "Only you can answer that," he said as he raised a bony finger into the air. "You've angered him. You should not be here," he repeated but his tone had changed into a weak whisper.

Kyp rushed forward and moved in front of the old man. "You saw him too?" The old man raised his head and Kyp could see it in his eyes. "How?"

"We are the blessed survivors of God's vengeance. He has gifted us extraordinary power," the man said as he raised his hands to the roof.

This man was delusional. He was hanging to life by a mere thread and that was a gift. "Who is your God?"

"Only you can answer that." His voice started to trail off as he passed Kyp and moved to the entrance to the bridge. "Only you can answer that. Only you can answer that."

Kyp followed and the man showed no signs of protest. He knew exactly what his answer was. He was not supposed to be here. The old man pried open the doors and stepped through. On the other side Kyp was amazed to find three poorly constructed tents. "You said we. Who else is here?"

"Me and two of my fellow gifted kin," he said as two women, one twice the age of the other, came out into the open.

In the faint star light Kyp could barely make out their color and faces. One was a dark skinned woman and the other was of a lighter skin but not as light as the old man's.

"What is he doing here?" She said as he furiously stormed forward to the old man. She laid a open palm smack across his face. She leaned to her right and stared down Kyp. "You will not take her from me!"

Kyp stared past the women to the younger of the two. She was a full grown adult but she kept her head hung low. He could feel the sorrow rolling off her cheeks as she stood and sobbed. She had cut marks across her arms and legs.

The old hag noticed his stare and tried to move past the old man. The withered man stepped in front of her and held her in place. He screamed out to calm her. "No, he can not harm us. Leave it." She continued to struggle but eventually gave up and turned back to her tent. Silently she ordered the younger woman back into her own.

The old man turned with a face of disgust and entered his own. In a matter of mere minutes he had been completely blown off his feet. With jaw on the floor Kyp moved back to the exit to the garden and plopped down in a corner. These people had answers but what worried Kyp was how buried they were.

Kyp awoke to screams of anger from beyond his line of sight. The sun had risen high into the sky and the salted air flowed freely through the bridge. It was amazing someone could be angry on a day like this. It was a far cry from the hell storm he had flown in on.

The Jedi Master picked himself up and rubbed his face. Through his fingers Kyp spotted the old man as he was violently thrown out of one of the three tents. He watched the withered man skid to a halt and slowly regain his footing. What amazed Kyp was that he was thrown so far.

"Do not anger him. He will bring harm to us," the old man said as he pleaded for her to stop.

Despite his pleas she exited the tent with a speed uncanny to such a malnourished human. In her right hand she brandished a long blade. Kyp reached out with his hand in some futile attempt to stop the headlong rush. "No!" he screamed as he plunged the blade deep into the man's gut. The tip of the blade exited on the other side, high and through the heart. With a twist she yanked the blade free. With a cold satisfaction she proceeded to lick the blade clean as the man fell to the durasteel floor. He lay there motionless for a few moments while Kyp took it all in. What the hell?

Once she had sufficiently cleaned the blade she stared at Kyp and then down the corpse on the floor. "Look what you did! Do you like this!?" she said as he began to cut herself. Deep red blood flowed to the floor. She slowly walked towards Kyp. "You will not take her from me!" she said in a sickening tone.

"I am not here to harm you. I want to know what happened here. Why is Feiya so destroyed? What happened to her citizens?"

For a split second Kyp saw a tiny bit of sanity in her eyes. It had been just as quickly been ripped away. Someone was still in there. "They came and killed and destroyed. We had to kill the weak, they were not of his liking." The old woman walked closer and closer all the while trailing blood.

"There is no way he controlled you. He has been dead for a very long time."

She stopped and held the blade out to her right in an open stance. The tiny glimmer of sanity peaked through again. The blade dropped to the floor. Quickly afterward she fell to her knees. Her voice changed to a soft and soothing voice, but scared. "He came with you," she said before seizing over. Her fingers dug deep into her skin and cut into the skin and tissue beneath. When her head shot back up Kyp could hardly stand to look at her. "Kill me."

Her neck twisted at an unnatural angle and then back. Whatever had been there before had been obliterated and all that rose in front of Kyp was a soulless husk of a human. What was left of the woman reached for the blade. "Don't do this. I can help you!"

A voice he had not heard in years forced it's way from her throat. "No you can not. She will die." The husk rushed forward as Kyp ignited his lightsaber. He had no choice. It was him or her. Before they collided the husk surged it's arm forward in a solid stabbing motion. The blade was easily dodged as Kyp brought his own blade down and cleaved the arm at the elbow. The momentum of his strike carried him around as spun on his heel and cleaved the woman's head clean off at the shoulders. The lifeless corpse crashed to the floor and Kyp flicked his lightsaber off.

The slaughter had begun and ended in a mere minute but Kyp knew there was one missing member. He rushed to the tents and threw open the middle to find the woman laying motionless. Her eyes were wide open and Kyp carefully reached to her neck to feel for a pulse. It was steady and even, she was very much alive.

Kyp moved over to her head and placed both palms on each side of her head. He did not want to do it this way but it seemed like it'd be the only way to gain his answers. He closed his eyes and used the force to feel into her memories. He started at birth and quickly jumped through all her years.

He saw images of the woman and man, her mother and father, shortly after the Empire's attack. Each image became worse as fires and death consumed the city. All the survivors had to fight for resources, leaving the strongest to claim the derelict city as their own. Their force powers had given them the advantage and allowed them to survive for so long with so little sustenance. However their minds were not strong enough and slowly sanity had slipped away.

The memories gave him the answers but would haunt the woman for the rest of her life if they stayed. Kyp reached deep and progressively burned each and every memory. All her pain, all her sorrow, would be forgotten. However there was nothing her could do for her scarred body. She'd have to live with that.

"You'll be fine," he said as he exited her mind and wrapped her inside his black robe. Kyp picked her up and made sure to shelter her unconscious eyes from himself and the spectacle around her.

"Not if I can help it......."

Kyp hoisted the body in his arms higher and over his shoulder. He trotted forward as fast as he could in a desperate attempt to escape himself. The words stuck in his head as he crossed the threshold into the garden. He is you. The whole ordeal made his skin crawl. It couldn't possibly be him in the flesh.

The ancient voice boomed in his ears. Kyp lightly set the survivor on the floor plating and covered his ears. It was no help. "They're right. I am you. And vice versa. You'll never escape me."

"Escape? Who ever said I was trying to escape?" Kyp spoke out into oblivion.

"You can not fight me, your weapons are useless." He said with a snide tone. They never changed.

"Prove it," Kyp pulled free his lightsaber but only to drop it to the floor. "You are no challenge. You're a warm up."

"You should not abandon your saber so easily." Kyp head spun and his stomach turned. A black mist rolled in and clouded up his vision. He doubled over and resisted the urge to purge his stomach. He told himself it was all cheap trickery. From the mist sprung fourth a face that was as familiar as his own. Kyp punched downward only to connect with the floor. Laughter echoed through the room.

The words stuck to Kyp's mind. He rolled around the words a few more times. He is you. Suddenly, as if someone had pulled back a veil, the truth revealed itself. Raising himself from the floor he slapped his forhead with the butt of his palm. Of course. It explained why the survivors had become so insane. Surely they were psychotic before he arrived but he had thrown them over the edge.

"Finally you understand. Too bad it is all for naught.

For so long he had felt like his time with him had stuck with him. The force lightning, the ability to erase memories, among other things. It was only logical that Kun would do anything to survive, even if it meant a menial existence as a memory.

More than that. Remember, I am you. You'll never rid yourself of me."

"You're merely a part of me, but not the whole," Kyp said as he sat down and crossed his legs. A black screen went up all around him. Darkness enveloped his world. From the darkness sprung fourth faint lights and colors. All around him images of his past played. Times spent with his father, mother, and brother. The movies of light played across the screen and began to slowly contort. Each vision slowly morphing into horrible displays of blood and gore. Kyp watched his brother die over and over again in many different ways.

"You can not twist me. I know your tricks. You are powerless. A shadow of your former self." The images shifted to include others that he had known and met over all the years. It panned his lifetime till it came to the not too distant past. The crew of the Blight Leaper, some of which he had grown attached to, each became twisted versions of themselves. But one, stuck and burned hot like a lance of fire in Kyp's brain. He knew he was seeing possibilities, not actual events.

The spectacle enveloped his surroundings as the Leaper sped toward a war torn planet. A craft followed the smoking heap all the way to the surface. He saw chaos unfolding onboard as her faceless occupants clung to hard points for dear sweet life. The transport crashed hard onto dirt and rock and skidded to a halt. The craft following landed close to the wreckage and began the systematic slaughter of her crew. The face was hidden but the gait and stature were all he needed to see.

Kyp shook the image away and focused back onto the matter at hand. He searched deep into the depths of his soul. Kun was a part of him, but not the whole part. Hidden beneath layers of twisted memories, both real and imagined, lay a piece of Kun. In his mind's eye he reached out and grasped the darkness tight. Kyp imagined all the good in his life, what little there was. He shut out his pain and sorrow for just a moment to think of the larger picture.

You'll never be free of me. Your anger is my food, your sorrow is my hope. You death," Kun put emphasis on the word. "Will be my freedom."

"Not today, not ever. You are apart of me. I will live with that for the rest of my life. But when I end, you shall too. You are only a memory, a shadow of your former self. And you will be forgotten." Kyp squeezed tighter, eclipsing the darkness in light. A shriek of terror escaped only to be smothered. "Stay." Kyp said as if he were speaking to a pet.

He opened his eyes and was forced to squint as if he had been in that darkness for far too long. Still he was unsure if his decision to come back had been a good one. Two people had died, but he had saved one. Perhaps if he had not come they'd all lived and eventually been rescued. He had allowed another two to die by his hands. Kyp rubbed his forehead and tried his best to forget it. The least he could do was give the youngest one a new life.

Calmly Kyp wiped off the small bits of dirt from his pants, collected his lightsaber, and proceeded to pick the survivor up again. It was a shame that he had no name to put to the face. Once she was securely over his shoulder, he reached back and pulled the fabric of his robe far enough up to snatch his comlink from an interior pocket. On the glowing holoscreen flashed a new message. It was flagged as a high priority distress signal from Lucas. Kyp read the message, frowned, and cursed under his breath. Hoth.....

"Well honey, looks you and I are going to the number one, frozen over, poodoo hole in the galaxy. Not to mention the site of one my favorite faction's outposts," said with a sarcastic tone. He cursed again, shook his head, and exhaled. He walked back down the stairs and opened the canopy to the Vigilance. There was hardly enough room for him, let alone two people. "Good thing you haven't been splurging on the local sealife. This may have been a problem."

Kyp strapped himself and the woman into the crash harness. With any luck he'd be able to keep her knocked out for the duration of the relatively short trip. The canopy closed again with the distinctive hiss it usually did. The systems all began to boot up as he did his pre-flight checks. "Hoth......of all places....frakkin' Hoth."

Kyp is now at Hoth onboard the Vigilance.
